I separate it into theee parts or three types of practice: 1st I play it painfully slow several times until I don't have to think about what I am playing. In this phase I makes sure I play everything absolutely perfectly and clearly. Then I progressively speed it up until I can hardly handle it, then stay at that pace for a while. Finally I try and play along with the song, focusing on just keeping up. I fuck up a lot while doing this, but it's mainly to get the tempo and feel of the song. I then continually switch between these steps depending on what I feel I need most at the time-speed or clarity. I break each little section down and repeat tiny little portions, mix and matching different consecutive parts together so that I can nail the transition between each. The end result is a flawlessly played song at blistering speeds. Takes many days of practice depending on the difficulty of the song, but you can literally learn any song perfectly this way. It just takes time, practice, and patience.

This reminds me of the game that How I Met Your Mother taught me in university: Edward 40-Hands. A 40 Oz taped to both hands. Since 40 Oz isn't common in the UK we adapted it in Amy Winehands. Man, I love Polyphia. They make me want to pick up the guitar.

I think these reaction videos are getting better. On the last polyphia video I kinda went off about how a lot of the comments were unrelated and how it basically seemed like you didn't know what was musically going on when "music teacher" was in the thumbnail. I like that in this one you play a similar technique and quickly break down how to do it. There's a couple minor things in this I could gripe about like saying"don't try to make music" and saying"slow it way down" but never mentioning a metronome, but overall these videos are far better than the first couple I saw 🤘🏻

@Eliath1984
@Eliath1984 3 жыл бұрын
Even learning new songs... Start at a comfortable speed... make sure your time is correct... make sure your accurate.. make sure you are solid... Then once you master it at... 20% tempo.. speed up to 30%... then 40%.. and so forth... obviously some things you can speed up faster than others but it's always a good idea to start slower than you need to then speed it up
