LYRICS: Concealed behind impressions An ego that you define Stifling an ecstasy Lay cloven prints in time You are who you say you are Each stroke is yours to mark Cascading thoughts, ambitions Chasing down that spark - I’ll never tell their stories I’ll never let them define me - I’ll never sing that song Like my father before me Sink that hook Looking up when it’s storming Stomp it out When I’m tired of everything I don’t wanna see the Spring Are you even listening? Don’t wanna live on a faith Anymore Bury the pastor’s keys Breaking down cathedral doors I’m still the Yak they raised But now I’m the devil that they’ll face - Write them down, these hopes and dreams You’re more than just a sum Abandon all the pages In a never ending story The past does not define you You define it so Ink the chapter in your name Upheld by the page before - Shut the fuck up Until I’m done, speaking Lay it on the line When you’re done reaching Yak song Yak song I’ll sing it My own way Yak song Yak song Tear down every Portrait I’m still bleeding I’m still bleeding Out - They’ve been ignoring Every word I speak Each sentence Torn by fibers They think that I’m a freak When will this nightmare end? I’ll stomp it out ‘till nothing’s left When can I hear my voice? Your tears nourish the riverbed These tears you’ll shed This blood you’ve bled Will save your soul When all is done and said - I’ll never sing that song Like my father before me Sink that hook Looking up when it’s storming Stomp it out When I’m tired of everything I don’t wanna see the Spring Are you even listening? Don’t wanna live on a faith Anymore Bury the pastor’s keys Breaking down cathedral doors I’m still the Yak they raised But now I’m the devil that they’ll face I’ll never sing that song Like my father before me Sink that hook Looking up when it’s storming Stomp it out When I’m tired of everything I don’t wanna see the Spring Are you even listening? Honestly gave a bit of a relation to some of the lyrics I'm a Christian who's officially stopped going to churches as I faced so much religious trauma from them. When the moment I had a chance to speak to someone about my struggles, I immediately was ridiculed and when I try speaking up about the Manipulation, Verbal Abuse, and the Hypocrisy that went on, people never believed me or just told me I was jealous of someone. My voice didn't matter at all when it came to my mental health or calling out the truth of what was going on. They didn't accept me at all from the beginning, I was nothing but a stranger despite growing up within that very church and they made sure I remembered that. Now that I stopped going all together, they suddenly want me back while spreading around how I've been "Lost to the world" and get suspicious of me when I talk to my old church friends, saying I'm trying to lead them astray when I just wanted to hang out with them.

@newgate-zerohour2 ай бұрын
It's great, but something about how the part a couple of verses after just hits so hard "They've been ignoring every word I speak Each sentence torn by fibres, they think that I'm a freak" The whole thing - the sudden drop from a musical explosion down to a mono el mono with that deep guitar and that _beat_ - that whole part feels so badass and powerful. The song peaks there for me, emotionally and lyrically. Especially considering how it comes after "I'm still bleeding I'm still bleeding out"

There’s something amazingly haunting about Vylet’s music. Maybe there’s something in music theory that explains it, maybe not. But, I don’t want to know if there is because, I feel like that’d ruin it for me. I’ve ruined magic like this many a time before.
@quailron1581 Жыл бұрын
I think it’s more skill with production/instrumentation than an explicit music theory thing.
@pansitocosmico83682 ай бұрын
trust me, it's not in the music theory, it's behind who vylet is as a person and how she represents it through art, it is magical and no one can replicate it.

deleting my last comment so as not to seem spammy, but here are my thoughts. Theres definitely an aesthetic to be had with electronic noise music, but im glad this allowed itself to stable out into something more akin to your usual feel, and the midsong tone change im used to by now from you DEFINITELY hit hard with that guitar riff. As part of the album, im a bit concerned about the ties to CUTIEMARKS, namingly the use of 'sing a song about life'. Thematically, it makes sense; this song and CUTIEMARKS both bore themes of throwing off expectations and being your own person despite what fate may seem to have in store for you, but i hope an album specifically about Can Opener can distance itself to be something more than another hash of CUTIEMARKS. Either way, that would have to be my only complaint; the message is great, delivered in wonderfully poetic lyrics, and the purposeful dissonance between soft noise and powerful rock really makes a memorable listening experience. Great work as always, Vylet.

Amazing song. The more I listen the more I'm struck by the same refrain played in different tones, like you're remembering it from different phases of life. You're 14, you hate your parents and you just wanna piss them off with a loud song. You sing it cheerfully just to spite them, to show your rebellion. "This is who I am." Then you grow up a bit. You're 19, and you're still playing the same music with the same words. But it doesn't mean the same thing anymore? It makes you feel good, sure, it's comforting and familiar. But what are you even rebelling against at this point? You're free to do your own thing now. So why are you still defining yourself by your rebellion? Still you keep on singing. You grow up a bit more. Everything is disjointed for a while as you're trying to find your place in life. You're 22 now. You acknowledge that the meaning has changed even though the words have stayed the same. But you've found your own meaning now. Maybe you've made peace with your dad. Maybe you're making music for other people, and you're inspiring a new generation of teens that are trying to figure out the same path that you went down. You keep on singing for their sake.
