Emppu is a highly underrated guitarist - most attention goes to Tuomas, Marko and Floor. Emppu's riffs and chops are supertight and his solos are always tasteful and never over the top. It takes a great musician to be truly of service to the music. So kudos and kiitos to Emppu! 🤘

The role of the guitarrist isn't that "great" to begin with @ Nightwish. Emppu does what he needs to be but the emphasis is not on him. Anyway, he's a great guitarrist who more than fills his role. Hoitaa homman!

Secretly I hope you will analyze :"the greatest show on earth" in Tampere live (about the birth of the universum and our planet explained with music....and fir works for the big bang) but they also have beautiful "small" melancholic folk music work. Since you actually do analyse the compositions you could consider (also) listening to the album version. Their live performances oftentimes leave out parts of the complete piece (old songs like this are kind of an exception, since they retroactively add orchestras and choirs to them) Also if you like Nightwish and "classical-esque" music, do check out Therion.I think you will like their music. Here's the link to a live show of theirs with an actual live orchestra and choir (which I think is a good entry point). Part 1: Metal covers of classical compositions: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5CrqJVoa8aXjtk Part 2: some of their own songs with the live orchestra: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4Sco2CJhbt6h7M They both have timestamps to each piece/song! If you consider doing an analysis on one of their songs, all the better (check out Land of Canaan) Cheers!

I've been teaching classical piano professionally for nearly twenty years, been playing piano for over 30 years and did my grade 8 when I was 11, so music has always been my thing. I often leave my keys in the front door, though, so I can't be all that clever. :)

Great analysis again! When you were trying to figure out some of the keyboard parts, I had to think of this fragment of Glenn Gould doing the same on a Bach Partita 😀: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ml7QqmSAfZ6og80 BTW the lyrics are also amazing: Tuomas comparing himself to Jesus in the garden of Getsemane while complaining about his love (for Tarja?): "Toll no bell for me Father But let this cup of suffering pass from me Send me no shepherd to heal my world But the Angel, the dream foretold Prayed more than thrice for You to see The point of loneliness in me Not my own will but Yours be done The Lord weeps with me But my tears fall for you" and: "I knew you never before But the love, the pain, the hope, O beautiful one Have made you mine 'til all my years are done Without you, without you The poetry within me is dead"

I must have watched that GG partita clip a 100 times over the years lol. Check out the 70s prog band Ekseption covering the first movement from that Partita (No. 2 in C minor) - it's great fun!

@@JWSoundworks2 I had a feeling... 🙂 And I know Ekseption very well, it is a seventies band from Floor country (like me). Ever listened to Jacques Loussier "Play Bach" in jazz style? (Most famous in the sixties, but composed and played until 2011) His interpretations are also iconic.

@@clemenstremens1940 nice one! My dad took me to see the Loussier trio play live when I was in my early teens. They played mainly Bach. Particularly love his version of the Italian Concerto!

Great tune, not mainstream but the best music isn't. Dream theater anyone? RUSH? Nightwish is right there...

It's one of their oldest songs. You can find a clip from the 90s of them performing this song and they look like children :P
