Jordan can hit crazy high notes, he has incredible music of his own, and also he sang you're welcome with lin for the end credits of moana and his high note in that song is crazy lol. He deserves so much more recognition. He also played Laurens/philip hamilton in hamilton 2016-2017. And speaking of rent, he just played mark in rent live and he nailed that role, was my fave part of that show.

I still feel sad about rent. Showing the pre taped show from night before where most of the cast weren't going full out. He was great in it. If there's a wicked movie ever happening hope he gets cast as Fiyero .😂

While Jordan Fisher is obviously an incredibly talented singer and actor, he really doesn’t do Evan justice in this clip. I’ve seen bootlegs of an actual performance of his on Broadway and he did so well, but in this specific video he seems way to calm and cool to be Evan Hansen.
@MrAaronWomball

I think this is because for this video, they've removed all the context of the show. He's not wearing a cast, his tattoos are visible, piercings, they're in a very generic space. I also feel like they added more to Zoe's part in the song, I think this video tells you very early on, this is not a filmed version of he show. Sort of like Wicked and their releasing of stripped back covers, or the Hamilton Mixtapes.

He’s not meant to go all out in this video, that’s why. It’s just supposed to be a simple cover/music video. Not necessarily showcasing Evan and Zoe as characters as much.

I absolutely love this show (and I say this as a huge Come From Away fan!). My son absolutely loves this show and was even Evan for Halloween this year. My son suffers from an anxiety disorder. I so felt connected to Heidi and when I was a little girl my troubled older brother died in an accident (he had been drinking), I so understand Zoey and her trying to understand how she should mourn because they were not close. I see my parents so much in the Murphy’s and I am even a lawyer. This show touched me more than I ever imagined. Now that being said and since I mentioned CFA, can you please react to Jenn Collela and Me and the Sky? I get why we had no idea which show would walk away with the 2017 Tony.

While I get what you are saying with the subtlety thing, I am someone who in my every day life feels my feelings big. If I am happy at sad or angry the stranger at the other end of the supermarket will be able to tell. So for me, I love seeing people on stage experiencing and performing emotions like I feel them. TV shows the subtle emotions, the hyper realistic quiet acting of emotions. Theatre is my home because I feel that big naturally.

My 2017 senior research paper revolved around tween television shows, including Liv and Maddie. I was doing a data analysis for a couple of different things for each show with my brother. That was the first time we saw Jordan Fisher. I'm not going to lie, we both were teary eyed by his performance. The consensus was clear, we knew he was going to be a star. I just wish Rent Live could be reshot and actually air live instead of the dress rehearsal. His "Mark" was great. I just want to see everyone stage ready. By the way, I love your channel!

Dear Evan Hansen was one of those musicals, like Hamilton, that I always had difficulty with getting tickets. I live in Massachusetts so whenever I was in NY I, without fail, would go to the box office but tickets were either sold out or I wasn't willing to pay $800/seat. Marc , you were obviously moved. As pleasant and easy as the voices were, I couldn't react emotionally as you. Is it me? Do I need to see the musical in its entirety in order to better connect with this particular scene? I have heard excerpts from Ben Platt through you and he blew me away. Can't wait for your review of the screen adaptation. Thanks again Marc!

Have you experienced much immersive theatre (ie. Sleep No More)? It can be more subtle since it is so intimate and interactive. That’s low key an insult to all the other Evan Hansen’s. But I will say, I don’t necessarily think any of the other evan’s looked hot. @@sunnyblue7800 I would have to disagree on that. There isn’t a singular way to portray anxiety. So no matter how it’s portrayed, there are still people who are relating to it and have been through it themselves in a similar or the same way themselves. And I think that’s what makes each Evan so special. They all don’t and aren’t supposed to portray evans anxiety in the same way. They do whatever feels truest to themselves and how they would act and feel in evans shoes. Plus Jordan deals with anxiety and depression sometimes himself. He literally had an actual panic attack during the assembly scene.

I absolutely agree with the comments regards subtlety and being real on stage. Stage and film or TV do call for a different approach though. We're told in theatre we must perform to all, and hit the cheap seats way back. In much smaller houses, a more natural, subtle performance could work perfectly. In those huge auditoriums though, you tone it down to a more natural subtlety, with just a raise of a brow, or half a smile, and your cheap seats see nothing. The front of the stalls may be blown away by you, but those further back may just see what you're doing (or not see actually) as lacklustre or bland. We don't want to give a beautiful and subtle performance, and then more than half the audience miss it. We have to very much consider the venue we're playing to, and obviously we what we do as actors is rightfully guided by our directors also. Actors can be criticised for confusing the genre, and choosing the wrong performance style. I think audiences also tune in to the style, and it sits naturally with them in a theatre, even if they watched the same performance in close up on screen, it would jolt with them as 'over the top' or exaggerated. The cheap seats have has much right to follow your emotional journey as the front stalls. Don't ever leave them out. Finding the balance is the key, and we can bend the rules, or even break them every now and then.
@gazmondo
@gazmondo 3 жыл бұрын
When I mention playing to 'the house', we mustn't underestimate the power of playing to one person. For those moments that are deeply internal, picking that one audience member, and giving them your focus, is a very powerful and intense moment for everyone sat in the room. Shifting your focus around the room, to give everyone a little bit of you, can often totally lose the moment.

On stage, the tattoos are covered (cast in act 1, hoodie in act 2) and he doesn’t wear the earring. His acting choices are also a lot different on stage. My guess is that the musical video director asked him to sing the song as himself (rather than as Evan).... or at least asked him to tone it down

Just an idea come out of nowhere ::: React to some songs from Sweeney Todd Tim Burton film adoption !!!! (Cuz I really don’t like Johnny Deeps singing voice and his skills, really weird for me. And the song Pretty Woman is kinda weird for me too(( the bass babababa part made less sense than musical

Jordan sings it beautifully, but where is the social awkwardness that nearly cripples the character. And the physicality of being unable to Interact with others. There are no nerves here. I thought it was just a stand alone cover of the song meant to have no connection to the actual production. This comes off as a smooth, well rehearsed seduction by one of the guys from school. He has a confident saunter when he moves, and looks directly into her eyes. While it is a beautiful vocal performance of the song. His performance is in direct opposition to the lyrics. Why is he asking “If I could tell her?” He is DEFINITELY telling her, and she knows it. If she doesn’t, then she’s getting hot over the idea of a romantic relationship with her dead brother who she hated, and I’m pretty sure that’s not the intention of the song.

This isn’t meant for him to go all out. I’ve seen bootlegs of him in the show, and it’s completely different from this and he’s way more emotional, awkward, and in character. He’s really good. This is just meant to be a cool little cover I guess.

This is of him not really being in character AT ALL. Its more to show his singing rather than acting tbh. And you can tell by how they aren't in costume and by his lack of anxiety while singing. On stage he sings the song very differently and in a way we are more used to.

Also his tattoos aren't showing and he has his piercings. Not exactly "high school student with crippling anxiety" lol! I just don't think this was meant to be in the shows circumstances and more to show off "hey look jordan fisher is in our show!!"

No he wasn’t. He plays the role very well on stage. This video wasn’t meant to be him in character but more so to show his vocals. He performs totally different on stage.

He sang well but did not show enough anxiety for the character for me.

@@mandydukes9318 he plays the part extremely differently on stage. His performance has a lot of the same physical ticks as Ben Platt. My guess is that the musical video director asked Jordan Fisher to tone down his performance for this video (perform it as himself instead of as Evan).

I hated dear Evan Hansen. It was not an accurate depiction of mental health. The music was good but the story made me feel like shit
