Erm.. I hate to break this to you but she started losing her vocal range and power in the mid-late 90s due to a severe crack cocaine habit that withered her body and eventually caused the heart attack that killed her in the bath. She isn't "holding back" here, she's doing her best to work around the fact she can't hit the big notes and sustains that she used to. The difference is obvious when you watch her performances from the late 80s/early 90s. It got worse and worse through the 2000s with her appearing clearly intoxicated, fatigued and confused on stage.

The absolute brilliance of Whitney Houston. Her voice is like liquid gold. Her beautiful presence with her voice and an orchestra and I love how she directs the Orchestra while she's singing.
