As much as I love to perform , I also enjoy teaching. Sharing the knowledge that has been handed down by my illustrious Gurus,has been my way of giving back, in a small way to this wonderful art which has enriched me over the years.
Here is a small peep into my class room and an interaction with some of my students.

Thank you very much Gayatri ji for this whole series. Full of information for the younger generation learning carnatic music. I am a 78 year old from Boston. I love music and had learnt from when I was 5 years old for about 10 years thanks to my mother. Even after moving to US, I continued with my passion and learnt Pancharatna keerthanas Navagraha and Navavarana krithis and a lot of new songs along with like-minded friends. I attended your concert in Boston and enjoyed it very much. You are so down to earth and amazing. 👋 🙏

Wonderful! It is said that Thyagabramham asked his disciples to sing this song when he left his mortal coil, just like Dikshitar who had asked his disciples to sing Meenakshi memudam dehi and gained moksha when the phrase ‘ Meena lochani-paasa mochani was sung. Proud to be a part of such a rich culture and heritage🙏🏻

EXCELLENT RENDITION. It clearly proves how important is a strong foundation for top class performance. I recall the concert of Sri. Nedanuri Krishnamoorthy singing an elaborate Sriranjani followed by MAARUBALGA in Music academy. Sri Lalgudi & Raghu added to the excellence. Writer Subbudu wrote in Indian express Nedanuri's Sriranjani is a LESSON to all aspirants. YOUR thoughts were on similar lines. GOD BLESS YOU GAYATHRI MADAM. REGARDS RAMCHANDER PONDY

The "mandra sthayi" demonstration brings to my mind, listening/to this song "suvvi suvvi suvvalamma" from the movie swathi muthyam, when we were in the final year of our college. That apart, one of the important takeaways from this episode, is the example of Sri Ariyakudi 🙏

Namaskaram Mam, one question. How best do we practice fast phrases in Mandra Sthayi? Also, what are consequences of frequently changing the choice of pitch in Indian classical music?

It is not good to frequently change the sruti and also I would say that mandrastayi is for strengthening so it’s not necessary to do fast phrases in mandrastayi , especially if you are just beginning this practise. It is for strengthening voice and it helps upper octaves as well if we practise mandrastayi.
