Country music can be a hard thing to categorize...sometimes it's easier to say what it isn't as opposed to what it is. No such issues here. This is country. I asked a musician friend to describe country and his response was "real stories, sung by real people". I can live with that. This is a gorgeous country song.

Heard this one for the first time today on the 1994 album and was hoping there'd be a live video. Great frickin' song, this is what country music is all about. I'll be listening to everything this guy put out.

Zeb, what '94 album? He is just like Will Alan Ramsey, could've been a giant but chose to play close to the vest...

Reminds me so much of both my grandfathers who were farmers in the days before tractors were common. The Greatest Generation.

It was December 2010 My wife and I where on our way home from planning my grandfathers funeral. We were listening to MPR and this song came on. I just couldn't help but break down in tears.

There’s performers and then theres the ones that are a cut above. This man is the real deal 100% and as close to perfection as it gets.

I heard a feature on Shawn by NPR last night. They ended with the beginning of this song. I had a hard time driving. This is, IMO, the saddest country song ever written, sadder than Gram Parson's "$1000 Wedding." Best of luck to him, and thank God Nashville and the suits finally got something right.

Shawn thank you for the beautiful song. My grandpa would have looked like I remembered him had he been in his blue Bib Overalls. He was and Oil and Gas Well Driller and those were the work clothes most of them wore . Thank you . He has been gone over 40 years but I still miss him ! Is that a 00-28 Martin 12 fret ?

This reminds me of part of the interview Tamara Saviano did with Rodney Crowel after she made her film about Guy Clark. Rodney talks about the negotiation with the gold-digging undertaker who was hoping to sell Guy's friends the premium package. Guy would have been proud.

Miss you Shawn - you and many of the older talented artists need to ban together and do a REAL NASHVILLE TOUR, tie up the new york business suites and keep them out of site for about a year until you finish the nationwide tour - AND THEN MAYBE WE MAY ALL ENJOY SOME REALLY GOOD COUNTRY MUSIC without being exposed to fake country pop. dana mathews
