+Spirit Crusher Well...that speaks volumes...you obviously don't "get" Paradise Lost, one of the seminal bands of the 1990's, extremely influential, pioneers of "Doom Metal" and absolutely iconic to the then burgeoning "Gothic Metal" and similar genre's (to this day). Funny that you feel "These guys' musicianship is mediocre at best.". This opinion is not shared by other musicians. Just because a particular song or songs may sound simple (to you), it may not a) be that simple to play and perform b) be part and parcel of what it takes to express the artist's vision (in that particular case) c) most music of quality is an acquired taste and will sound less than good to those who have yet gained such taste (perhaps yourself in this instance). This song is not my favorite (by far) example of this band's repertoire, which is significant, especially seen in perspective. But it's OK, most people don't "get" Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's work either.

+Spirit Crusher You don't "get" it, and with that attitude you probably never will. You need to ask yourself "why am I on this page (heavily) criticizing a band of this stature?". What are you overcompensating for? This band has secured a place in history and set the tone and standard for so many artists of so many different genre's. They have proved successful through at least three major transitions. Music is art, not "theory". Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Your "random notes" is someone else's inspiration. You will never learn until you stop "knowing". And you do not know, obviously. People like you said the same thing about Black Sabbath years earlier. Where are they? Same place you will be while this band remains an icon.
