Saw him live here in France. He's not playing music, he is the music. As a guitarist, it was so an intense moment I enjoyed and I am now waiting for his next show here :)

I once saw him in a live presentation here in Brasil many years ago. I was about 19 yo and the place was crowded in a very know colonial building in Rio, the show was free an we got there by the end of it, only seeing a couple o songs. After the show me and my friends stood there for a while and it was very surprising to me to see him walking away with his guitar like he was a normal person. Never forgot that.

What a wild dance! Yes there’s so much joy and exuberance, so much contrast and storytelling in his playing… And what gets me is, this is all acoustic playing! One man and his guitar, no effects other than the ones he can acoustically create himself! That’s powerful music making there, for me… Also, his use of rhythm, melody and harmony….. The variety of sounds he achieves on his guitar and how he layers them… Things a producer or sound engineer would maybe add during the mixing and mastering process of a recording, -and Yamandu just does it all acoustically! So much great stuff in there-. And again I have to think of Egberto Gismonti, Brazilian guitarist, composer and multi instrumentalist… Also, those rhythms remind me of someone else’s comment to one of the Dirty Loops songs - of how their rhythms often are influenced by Latin and Brazilian rhythms… Thanks for showcasing this terrific artist again, Jeff, I loved the heartfelt response and the interesting thoughts on this 👍🙏

That's the point about Brazilian music. Not only some of the best musicians and singer technically speaking but always story tellers. Music for us is about art and art is about telling a story. Just look at Caetano Veloso, Tim Maia, Gal Costa, Elis Regina, Rafael Rabello, Baden... Always storytelling. And for that all techniques are needed. Like an opera. Each song is an opera with many different phases.

That's the first time I have visited your channel and I totally agree with you! "Yamandu Costa gets straight into the heart". I had the greatest opportunity of my life when I attended his concert in 2003, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. I invited a friend of mine to go out with me. Now Tatiana and I have been marrried for 19 years. I believe his seventh string really gave me good luck that night!! Thank you, Yamandú. Thank you, Straltele Studios, for this nice review!!

In the lyrics he mentions the weather getting darker but also the night arriving at the same time. It's a distant country road that people don't even pass there. But he hears the steps of the Baio Sarará horse. Those words refear to it's colour. If someone was riding the horse of if the horse wanders by him self around there it's not said. Also not even clear if there is an observer or if the song simply paints this remote place with no people at all at that moment.

Actually, it's a typical gaucho song, from the pampas of southern Brazil and northern Uruguay and Argentina. It has spanish influence, but doesn't sound spanish for latin americans. Sounds southern. The singing alludes to common circle songs in this region, and the rhythm makes reference to a cavalcade.
@Gabrielnobre

I don't know what is happening to some people in Brazil...but they're calling/branding every other brazilian musical gender as "Sertanejo". Such ignorance is starting to piss me off. Like "Rafael Palomino" said above me, Yamandu's favorite style/genre is the one "from the pampas of southern Brazil and northern Uruguay and Argentina." (and this style has spanish influences, some Flamenco taste to it). In this particulary song he mixes this southern genre I spoke to some Afro Brazilian beats in the Rythm (making it faster and having more percusive resources)...Even the song name "SARARÁ" is an Afro Brazilian word.

Hello, I'm Brazilian and I'm happy that Yamandu is so well known abroad. But you should know Raphael Rabello and Fábio Lima too, just look on KZbin. There was an excellent acoustic guitar musician called Raphael Rabello who reached a unique level, who inspired the two best Brazilian guitarists today. 1 - Yamandu Costa, who has a style with faster arpeggios, a more aggressive, virtuous and joyful style. 2 - And Fábio Lima, who is the most awarded musician of this generation. His style is more precise, with an emphasis on beauty, complexity and precision.
