“It actually sound like it is recorded live” because it is. BTS started sometimes releasing behind the scenes where they sometimes purposefully stop singing so you can hear how small the back track is and they shoot the performances just in different parts. It is not hard to understand them shooting in different locations and when the camera men said “cut” then they will stop singing and sing in another scene they said one of their vocal trainings is to sing while running in the treadmill. An easy way to see if they sing live is search on KZbin “ BTS MR removed” and you can tell they sing live they also sing in short clips of them acapella

actually MR removed is not a good basis to determine if a singer is actually singing live. mr removed is just basically cancelling out the sound similar to the studio version, so if the soundwaves are different it won't get cancelled out. because of this, i understand why it's commonly used as basis for live singing. but tbh an artist can just prerecord a "live" version that is different from the studio version. listen i have no doubt that BTS can and does sing live because ive been an ARMY for years i know how talented they are, but i just want to say that MR removed is not a good basis. it's better to look at how they move their mouths, how they breathe and how they sing if it matches what you hear instead of mr removed

ARMYs like us already know how they sound when they sing in acapella and concerts. that's why we can really tell that they sing live. again, it's not just because we watched mr removed because a lot of artists can still prerecord a "live" version wherein you can hear their breath and how they sing differently than the studio version, so it would still look like they are singing live if u use mr removed if you dont look closely at how they sing, breathe and move their lips

The sets are probably in the same large studio hence same audio acoustics and reverb. you can have multiple sets in one large studio.

Just because there were cuts scenes doesn't mean it wasn't recorded live. In kpop, they will literally perform the song multiple times in different stages and just compile the footage to get the imagery they want. Set design and imagery play a HUGE role in kpop and it's given A LOT of attention compared to the west. I've been to a broadcast recording before in Seoul and fans who are a part of the audience literally watch them for HOURS as they pre-record LIVE on different sets.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but they do record it live (with backing track for fullness) and just record it several times in the different locations. I believe that this is how they've recorded the other remote performances as well. This performance had slightly different vocals than the record version. They also tend to "prove" they're singing live by purposefully not singing a section and showing the sound difference either with no vocals coming through or with only backing vocals playing lightly.

Exactly! That's why their live performances are something to behold because they do different things all the time whether choreo or vocal runs. The pandemic actually game them time to rest and improve their vocals. They're actually flexing it in this performance and I love it! The song and performance is evolving for each stages until they reach perfection just like Dynamite.

There also was no outfit change where Jacob said there was - they were still wearing the black-with-some-silver-accent outfits at that point (not that it matters since others have already explained how the vocals are live, but just pointing that out). Someone else pointed out on Twitter that this performance shows the progression from Dynamite/DNA (JK's jean jacket, "Dynamite" playing in the background in the dressing room) to "Butter" wardrobe prep and then rehearsals (which begin with a whistle and peel-off start of the choreography like in DNA), then the BBMA red carpet, and finally the performance. There is also a clock above the mirror in the dressing room that is set at 5:17 - 05/17 is the month/year of their first BBMA appearance.

They performed Fake Love at BBMAs in 2018...& that was their first time as a performer at BBMAs (in 2018)..& yeah they also won for the second time Top Social Artist 💜..but now 5 consecutive times 💜

They sing live all the time. They actually don’t know how to lip sync. And it’s hard for westerners to understand cuz most artists lip sync. These guys were trained to do this and sing live AND dance at the same time. It’s unfathomable to most. This is true talent that these guys can do it all. And not factory manufactured like some other kpop groups.

Just a little FYI, yes, they sing live, all the time! Their stamina is quite stable, given the amount of time they trained even before debut. You can watch their live concert clips here on YT and you'll see. There are zero to little backing tracks and you can hear their breathings in between lines. And since Butter is not as intense as their other songs performance wise, I doubt they lip synced here. This was just a piece of cake to them. This is something we ARMYs are very proud of. Their performance level is unprecedented. You can never find someone like them. Thanks for reacting! 💜

💯💯 plus, they are constantly working on improving their vocals and learning different styles. They are always working to make things better each time. They have said this to army before. In the K-pop world as far as vocals it’s blasphemous to lip sync anything. So, may will hear Jimin’s sweet voice crack when he has danced his face off or if his throat is sore. They extremely hard.

I noticed some people from the west don’t believe or initially thinks that they’re not singing live while singing.. I just want to let you know that singing and dancing is common in boy and girl groups in S. Korea. BTS trained since teenagers, just like other groups in SK. They did cardio while singing since their early days. It might be hard to believe it but they are trained to dance and sing at the same time. Not just them but majority if not all groups in SK. 😊

In this type of performances they normally like to use live vocals and mostly its possible because they use long one take cuts especially if there are set switching and they can be mostly confirmed on the behinds on BANGTAN BOMB for those who are quite skeptical. @@rebeccacarmichael6745 yeah I watched that reaction, usually it never fails to impress people with Jimin’s dance, singing, and overall performance skills, his charisma is off the charts and I remember watching him talk about it (Jimin) where he acknowledges that it is really difficult for him because of the choreo and having to carry not only the vocal but also the performance in his own, he said it was exhausting (he is always such a perfectionist)...I’m pretty sure every reactor I have watched has fallen for Jimin’s skills and work ethic (usually it’s the whole package though), but Jacob was only really interested in the instrumentation, the base, the synth, the harmonies, how everything was layered - great reaction, but very different 😂😂🤷‍♂️

I think they do it all live actually. That is the reason the synths aren't that audible. They record the performance as a whole multiple times at different locations and then clips are either compiled or chosen according to the best cuts depending on the show. Their staff does a great job of mixing and everything. Also, there was no outfit change. I am actually getting a little tire of typing this... BTS RECORDS THEIR PERFORMANCES LIVE! This isn't just wishful/deluded thinking on our part, they've said this many times. And YES, there IS A BACKING TRACK, but their mics are hot; certain words/harmonies/adlibs are left on the tracks because they dance their asses off. Bangtantv will almost always post a bangtan bomb of the recording where it is literally someone standing in one place recording the performance and you can hear it's live. When they have to prerecord something to send into a tv or award show, they do it multiple times so they can do cuts and change scenes, but THEY SING LIVE EVERY TIME!

I enjoyed this performance very much--they always blow me away with their talent, creativity and professionalism. My only real (minor) quibble is that for such a fun, upbeat song, the fits and the staging were so DARK.I would have loved to seen something that was a little brighter but who knows what's to come? And as others have mentioned, they do sing live, but for prerecorded performances like this where they're able to do so much more with creative design, sets, etc., there are multiple takes with live vocals on each set that are edited together. If you see them perform LIVE, there's no doubt that they're not lip-syncing (which everyone agrees they suck at).

I agree that the walking sounds in the beginning are Foley, while JK is in the dressing room. But once he exits and walks down the soundstage, I believe that's the actual audio of his walk. Also, I think his opening whistle is a call back to the opening whistle in West Side Story, the movie. The 1961 version. Which is one reason I think the outfits here are dark. This performance has a nighttime in the city vibe. Adding to the chorus chanting: this was recorded live, multiple times, with different segments spliced. (Just like the Grand Central Terminal performance of ON Kinetic Manifesto.)

It most definitely is live. BTS would get slated if they lip synced during the BBMAs. You can hear the backtrack when they stop singing (Jin for example in his first line). There is effects like you said (the reverb) for performance purposes. But it is all live, they wouldve stopped singing and moved to a different location and carried on.
