gunslinger has a lot of meanings depending on the way you look at it. i think it’s about a soldier dying and being reunited with his loved ones in heaven because of the “i look towards the skies, i’ve said my goodbyes” and “the stars in the night, they lend me their light to bring me closer to heaven with you” but it could also be seen as just someone coming home to their loved ones

Matt said during their making of DVD that it was written both for the military personnel and for people who spend time away from home/their families. By the way from a veteran to a civilian, only people in the Army are called soldiers. People in the Marines are Marines, air force are airmen, navy are sailors, Coast guard are guardsmen but we always called them coasties, and space force I'm not sure I got out in 2013 and have no desire to follow anything military related ever again.
