He’s Scottish not Irish. His dad and grandfather got him into Motown and boogie woogie music when he was growing up. His grandfather would look after him after school, and he would listen to records or listen to his grandfather singing arias (Italian grandfather). This grandfather showed him how to place the needle on a record. He loved the 4 or 5 part harmony groups such as The Drifters, The Coasters, etc from the 50s and 60s. The laidback song performed in a room that you speak about was probably Better Man. I can hear his accent in some of his songs, especially when he does them live. Last Request from Jools Holland, you can hear his accent a bit. The exaggeration of the O vowel on “lay dOwn beside meh” is very Scottish, and his I vowels are also pronounced very sharply, similar to how Jamaicans say I. I’ve heard voice teachers says that singers take on the accent of the style of music they are emulating. If you watch any interviews with him, you’ll also hear his Scottish accent. Thank you so much for taking another listen to Paolo. ♥️🏴

Very interesting and thanks for the request! Singers emulating the accent of people that inspired them is a cool phenomenon. Hadn't heard of it but I guess it makes sense. 2/2 so far, he hasn't disappointed in the least bit and excited to get to some other songs in the future :)

It's not just motown. If you search YT for his content you'll see he sings in all sorts of genres, including folk, with some fine renditions such as his versions of "Caledonia" and Richard Thompson's "Beeswing". So glad he's coming back to the live music scene later this year.

Autumn is about his grandfather to back up everyone else. You have to hear it and their are live versions that are emotional and just raw

Sorry for the confusion on thinking he was Irish! I got that mixed up on accident as many of the comments have let me know 😅 Thanks for the correction!

Don't worry about it. It's like a Scotman trying to differentiate that one guy is from Manhatten and another is from Staten Island in a song.
@dgallagher48983 жыл бұрын
I'm Scottish and the accents get mistaken quite a lot. It's because of the original languages being similar (Gaelic). Well done on the videos dude really enjoy your content.

I’ve watched this reaction several times since I’m a big Nutini fan and each time I read the comments I’m struck by how no one is mentioning how cute both of these guys are. Especially Samurai when he’s waxing ecstatic on the technical aspects: those dimples, those lips. ❤🎉😊

Thank you!! I'll subscribe to anyone who listens to Paolo!! I can definitely hear his Scottish accent and along with the raspiness in his voice makes his vocals so unique that I can listen to him all day! Maybe I hear the accent because I listen to music from all over the world....some in English, some not. On the flip side, for a long time I thought Green Day's lead singer, Billie Joe Armstrong, was British...but he's not....though I think he sounds so when he sings. I hope you'll listen to more of Paolo's music. I'm 64 now and will always wish that I'd been able to see him live.

Christ I can hear that he's from Glasgow area in his singing. A good one to check out would be Autumn off of his first album to hear more of an accent. If you do covers then for a feel good vibe would be The Beatles, don't let me down. It's got an Ottis Redding / Bob Marley vibe. His covers are amazing. If you went to 10 shows in a row, each song in each set would be differently arranged. It's weird because you done more of a Scottish accent than Irish when you tried to imitate him lol. Keep them coming bro. Merry Xmas and health safety and happiness to all of you and your loved one's across the holidays. Peace ✌.

Just a simple way to put it & I don't know the details, just something I heard we use the left side of the brain to talk & right side to sing, so it's like learning to talk again, so we learn an accent from listening we talk with the sounding accent of where we grow up because it's the one we hear the most & we sing with the accent we hear sung the most it's also the reason why some people with a stutter can sing without stuttering, It's because they are using a different part of the brain
@KingBuster903 жыл бұрын
Also explains why when Justin Bieber came out a lot of kids who started to sing started sounding like Justin Bieber because they only listened to 1 artist, so they only had 1 singing influence on their singing accent as they were learning it's the same when you hear someone from a non-English-speaking country talk in English, they talk with the accent they learned English from

There is a long history of singers or bands from the UK taking American music and giving it back to America, so regardless of where they are from in the UK they will sing it the way they heard it first, with an American style or accent, Paolo has even done ragtime style songs haha, if you want to hear Scottish artist singing in thier own accent…. THE PROCLAIMERS, Letter From America, geeky looking twins but they sing with passion. Also there’s an old song called SHOUT, by LULU, she sounds very non Scottish but she is from Glasgow Scotland

Irish? Where you get that from? And you can tell from the intonations in his phrasing that he's at least Celtic, if you can't hear the Scottish "twang" in his voice

Bro it’s called a side stick. Not a rim shot. It’s sometimes called a rim click, but every drummer I’ve ever heard from, knows personally or watched a master class from calls it a side stick. Rim shots are something COMPLETELY opposite: landing a stick on the drum head and the rim at the same time which gives a definitive louder more resonant sound, used in all genres of course but is a staple of metal drumming and actually a fairly difficult thing to keep consistent in your playing
