John can sing anything and has. From ballads to rock, blues, soul, metal, opera, jazz, etc. He is a comedian and all-round nice guy who supported and respected his musicians and backup singers, and they loved him, as did Australia. Unfortunately, we may never hear him sing again as he had mouth cancer and had part of his jaw removed. He is now cancer free though. He was still performing at 70 and his voice hardly diminished over 5 decades of singing. He has the unique distinction of having a number one hit in 5 consecutive decades. Always listen to John live if you can. He always gives 110% in live performances.

One of if the best things about John is that he's not a stage hog. In almost every song he gives other musicians a good go. You will almost always here someone else get a solo. It's in John's nature to share the stage and to promote others talent and I really respect him for that, as well as everything else he has going for him.

So good to see new fans introducing Farnsey to their friends. That was fun to watch. IMO, the three iconic songs from the encores of this concert showcase everything that is so awesome about "our John": this one, You're the Voice, and especially Long Way to the Top. Each is very different, and yet each has John's special imprint. The controlled power of his voice, the genuine love between singer and audience, and his rare talent of being able to make any genre his own make him a very special artist.

@stevegraham3817Ай бұрын
Most concerts were advertised as John Farnham and Band, or his band, or the JF band, this one was John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol This song is one of the last songs that he would sing at the end of the night after he had already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours. Some have pointed out that this particular recording of the concert was closer to 2 hours of actual singing during the TV special, but it was also on the 4th or 5th night that he had sung like this. Either way, it was one of multiple nights that he did this on January 4-10, 1989, so his voice is still worthy of the accolades. Not many other singers can belt like that for even 2 or 3 nights without a rest. And besides picking at the exact details or this exact performance, Farnsey also has a way of getting deep into the emotions of your soul. A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one. -Burn For You.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoGzp4Kehdije6M -Angels.. Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers. JF with Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5CVf32Ifsl1hZo -Amazing Grace.. To show the calibre of his other back up Singers, showing you have to be good in your own right, just like Lisa. This is Vanetta Fields and Lindsey Field. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lamZf2xqhKqekLM -Please Don't Ask Me.. This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not hear him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well.. Edit- JF has announced he is free of cancer, but has not mentioned anything about singing again. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKa5kKeQhKmZgZo -When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.... And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4bCk3aZnamKfJY Or this version, both are great, but slightly different.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iHLPd3uJhbF7ptE -When The War Is Over… Possibly one of his greatest vocals. kzbin.info/www/bejne/ope6o4uZasqBbsk -Or is the greatest. Gethsemane.. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWbaoICQqaifnqs -Trying out his Operatic skills and having fun with Anthony Warlow… Granada… kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWfYqXmBoqiLeJo -How about a mike test. He has the power and ability to distort microphones, blow up amps, and get speaker stacks jumping. So this sort of setting up the venue test is a must. Lol Black Dog. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fGO8mmmKi85gqbc Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato, timbre and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.

Even typewriters were manual, and so were adding machines. Coding accounts for processing on a key punch computer was such a special thing at the time as well. I wonder how many would still know how to use these manual pieces of equipment if it ever were necessary?

Good Reaction. John's famous for always playing with his mike stand. Aussie music industry can be a bit of a rabbit hole for those who did not grow up in Australia. So many artists and songs that you would never had heard. As for live music versus computer generated, there's an imperfection to live that makes a difference. It's like seeing a perfect face from computer generation, it doesn't seem as real as an imperfect one. This is also why some digital generators allow you to randomly 'insert' mistakes to try and help. IMHO it doesn't.

A few things minor things that I have always loved about this performance. Firstly, the powerful notes John hits (with that brilliant gravel) is perfectly reflected by the saxophone and, secondly, at the conclusion of the song, the slow bow to the audience (at least to my mind) reverently defers to the Beatle songwriters.

Both men come from Britain and came over to Australia when young. Like Olivia, John ended up in Melbourne and Jimmy ended up in Adelaide. John was born a year after Liv in 1949 and they kind of started off together at the same studios in Melbourne. She followed his career from afar. About the time of her passing, he had to have major jaw surgery for oral cancer. He has survived it and apparently can sing around the house. He won't come out of retirement though because he is 75 now. Jimmy's son is a well known singer and breakfast TV host down here too. Jimmy was the lead singer for the band COLD CHISEL and John played lead for a little while in THE LITTLE RIVER BAND. There is a nice biopic on John that recently was seen in the cinemas and now is on DVD - here is the trailer and the 1st voice you hear is ONJ: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqDGdJmZarV-qKc Here are some links with Celine Dion and John: YOU’RE THE VOICE duet in Melbourne, Victoria in 1998. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJPYXnmcbrCUbNk Them together sharing a kiss: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZbUp3hvoJJqqsk Celine on Oz breakfast TV paying tribute to John: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4HEaI17YpiMqZY Celine and John excerpt from TV show THE SUNDAY PROJECT: kzbin.info/www/bejne/momUY4aXZ6qnbrs Different version of YOU’RE THE VOICE Melbourne concert (less time): kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6m6laShZriol8U Celine at the Colosseum in Las Vegas singing YOU’RE THE VOICE in Jan 2019. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5PdlKOdgregj5Y This is a Jimmy Barnes/the late Michael Hutchence (INXS) singing together GOOD TIMES: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGraiZJubK9ga5Y Another reaction channel (www.youtube.com/@TeacherPaulReacts/videos) has heaps of video reactions on the HISTORY of John Farnham - some are even in parts 1-12? Hi Guys. Some other great songs from the Legendary John Farnham are. YOU'RE THE VOICE. And WHEN THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY BABY, with Jimmy Barns. Another great Australian Legendary singer. Very much worth a listen to.

Firstly you’re looking gorgeous as ever, and welcome Nate. This performance is an example to a lot of modern musicians on how to put on a show, and to think this was one of 3 encores they did after a 2 and a half hour show and John’s voice is still pristine. John is the greatest and most versatile male vocalist of all time and can sing anything, any genre, although I’ve never heard him do rap, but am sure he could. Nate needs to listen and watch more from John, and just call it the Farnsey club. John always performs at 100% plus, he gives it everything and has so much fun on that stage. And I think, yes there is too much artificial stuff in modern music that people are forgetting how to actually play instruments and enjoy the sounds that they make, this performance is a perfect example, there’s no auto tune, no tricks in the background, it’s live and perfect first time every time. Please do more of John’s music and a side note, if you want to do emotional, check out the music video of James Blunt “monsters”, you’ll cry, I cried but it’s beautiful. All the best for Christmas and the new year to you.

My suggestion next would be a ACDC cover from the same concert It's a Long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock and Roll, it will showcase a different style from him, polar opposite to Help

We have some very talented Aussie artists and John is one of the very best. His song 'You're the Voice' performed at this same concert, is another outstanding example of his amazing talent. Even though it was released in 1986 it's message still relevant today. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ6VnpJvis6dqdE (You might find a better quality video than this one)

He's Amazing but unfortunately he has not long ago undergone a procedure for throat cancer and will never sing again. It's so sad as he was one of my favourite artists. He's awesome singing When the War is Over & You're The Voice from this same concert live with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
