Imagine by Pentatonix may be one of the most important videos of this century. This group took a classic, timeless song of tolerance and peace and modernized it as only they can. They are a perfect example of what respect and love can be like. Five people with differences in race, religion, gender, and sexuality can do beautiful things when they work together. I cried when I saw and heard this the first time. I still usually tear up when they go into Wall of Sound mode.

"Run to You" would be EXACTLY what you're looking for. An original, in the EARLIEST days. Scott and Mitch, especially, look like a couple of teenagers. I loved your thoughtful reaction. I share your feelings on Mitch's voice - it truly is a once-in-a-generation voice. People often say that Dimash is the best singer in the world and technically, yes, he is phenomenal but his voice doesn't move me the way Mitch's does. Every member of Pentatonix has an outstanding voice though. This one is a good example of what's known as the Pentatonix 'wall of sound'. You can hear it in many other songs including Amazing Grace, Sound of Silence and Hallelujah. Keep reacting to PTX - I'm enjoying your reactions and analysis.

I think the best thing about Mitch's voice is that he used to get teased and bullied about it. Nobody's laughing now. It's certain there is no other voice out there like his.

All members of Pentatonix, past and present, have amazingly perfect voices in their own rights. I love Scott's runs as well as his rasp and "white guy soul", and am so happy he's opened up more to it. Avi's voice just wraps me up and makes me feel like I'm wrapped in a blanket with cozy slippers on in front of a fire, sipping hot cocoa (I swear, he makes me feel like I'm in a Hallmark Christmas movie). Kirsti's voice is gorgeous, so full and rich. And Matt's voice gives me old soul music vibes, which I love. But Mitch...you're right, his voice is so absolutely pure when he gets in those high notes. He's stated in interviews that he used to get bullied for his voice, and that he tried to sing "manly", but finally sang as he was meant to, with encouragement from friends. He makes me so peaceful.

Mitch is my boy! He's the one that sucked me into the ptx wormhole in the first place and he still keeps me there. I love them all, don't misunderstand. But there's SOMETHING else about mitch's voice. Even after you've heard him a thousand times, he still has the power to amaze. Even the other members say he's the best singer and Scott has said if anyone's not sure of a note or pitch, listen to mitch, he's always on point. It's not even just a once in a generation voice. It's also his mastery of that voice, his knowledge of music and this absolute almost uncanny ability to draw out the emotion in his audience more than any other member. And ptx absolutely uses that. He also has perfect pronunciation, so you understand every word, often increasing the impact of that song. Good example, his solo of billie eilish "Your Power". It's drawn more than one tear. Even more so that billie's version because you hear the lyrics. And I think that song was personal for mitch just in how he sang it. I can imagine why. But after watching so many reactions,Ike 90% when mitch starts singing, first some still jump bc his voice is so unique It's almost like a shock collar at first. But then they smile, like eating your favorite comfort food or savoring a delicious smell or the peace of sitting in a garden or meadow. His voice is like peace for the soul.

The recording has some added reverb that takes a bit away from it, IMO) that it inspired them to write their original work, Run To You. The five of them stand around a microphone and sing in a sold-out stadium where you can hear a pin drop, 5 part the whole time, and the HARMONIES in this are just absolutely unreal. It's full of rich dissonance, exploitation of their unique tones, a true celebration of what five skilled musicians can do. I'd love for you to check it out! Avi is a basso profundo who is also classically trained and majored in the art of opera at Mount San Antonio College. In fact, before he said yes to Pentatonix and the Sing Off I believe he'd been offered a position to teach classical/opera. He started his career as a singer, songwriter and guitarist when he was in college. At the age of 16 he wrote his first song entitled Collision to commemorate a car accident his parents were in that caused his mother to undergo back surgery. Avi won several awards in college, and one was for best rhythm section which in previous years had been named best vocal percussionist. The award had never been given to a low voice and so they changed the name of the award to specifically honor him. You can hear Avi's classical training early on in the groups rendition of the song Aha which is a fan recorded video. Love watching and listening to your insights. ♥

It's nice to hear such a knowledgeable analysis of what they do. There are many things that make PTX as amazing as they are; you commented on their attack and releases being in unison which is part of what makes them such a tight group; I have noted in other videos that they also use vibrato in unison, matching each other, which I never dreamed would be a thing... and I think I've mentioned it before but Mitch and Kirstie can pretty well emulate each other switching parts almost seamlessly. One of the things that allows them to be so together is the many years the core three spent singing together; another I think is that they all like each other very much, there is no jealousy, no one feels a need to get a lead part; they work as a team in just about every way you can imagine. No pun intended.

Hey SH! Again for this one! I have actually been here a few times. I listen to music according to my mood because it is a mood adjuster as well as a mood enhancer? So if I need to get my mind off, wellll, my mind and stuff, this reaction by you is on the list for that. It is just watching your reaction to Kevin singing, it is fun, it is how we all felt, you just explain it better? If I am happy happy happy happy I have yet another list of songs by reactors to keep the happy, happy, happy mood up? If that makes any sense at all? Anywho, if you see a whole lot of views on this song it might be me? 🤷🏼♀️ T ✌🏻

I've seen a lot of reactions to Pentatonix and I have to say you catch everything I have been hoping other reactors would notice but usually talk over or miss. Even Vocal Coaches and other musician reactors have missed some of these really important notes and movements. Thank you for your attention to detail. It's really refreshing.

Really really loving your reactions. I learn something new every time. This one gives me the wet eye/goodies every time. Some side suggestions before Christmas hits - Scott did a cover of I Should Tell Ya Momma On You which shows his range.

Excellent reaction! You are so very very good at this. I couldn't click fast enough when I saw you had reacted to this. This song gives me goosebumps and chills every time. Best thing is knowing how many many more "Penta slaps" you are still in for 😅. Good expression that! Have you considered perhaps playing the whole song without stopping first and then go back and dissect it as only you can do? Just to get the full impact of the song first? I (and many others I believe) don't mind if the video is longer at all. Either way, I am totally there for listening to your analysis, however you want to do it. Anyway, since you are still on the early videos, another really good one is Say Something, where you can hear Kevin doing his celloboxing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZpW8namagcl-b9ksi=8U9oeFYvaMi7P4kj

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed 😊 Yeah I have considered it - and still might in the future - but the video will become longer (I want to keep them fairly timely) and also copyright can much easier be claimed as it can be argued that the song is being used as a listening alternative I know it’s not ideal pausing and speaking as it disrupts the experience of hearing it through in one go, but don’t worry - I immediately listen to them through many times afterwards after the reaction is filmed! Thank you for the comment and for the recommendation!!

Thanks for your insightful reaction. I've loved that song for many years and I was 'Penta-slapped' (love that phrase) as well. That wall of sound gave me goosebumps. Please, do more Pentatonix reactions. I'm subscribing to hear your comments on their work (and other artists as well).

Thank you, that's super nice to hear ☺I think you can easily tell who is truly a fan of the music they're reacting to by how they're physically affected during the performance. The physical affectations caused by powerful music can't be avoided.

I really enjoy your breakdown of the music. You spoke about "simple" songs allowing you to focus on the message...Avi Kaplan released a song Healing a week ago. It's a piano and his pure voice with some layers of Avi harmonizing with himself. Not only is Avi's voice stellar, his songwriting and composing skills are outstanding. Looking forward to your next reaction, cheers!

Spectacular reaction. They truly are all outstanding singers individually yet together they create a special kind of awesome. Their arrangements and collaborations are what is best for the song and they all contribute. The wall of sound in this song is the best i have ever heard. They have a huge library in so many genres and their originals and covers are wonderful.

When people refer to the “Mitch Slap” early on when there’s a new reactor, it’s because usually the very 1st reaction to Pentatonix is to Hallelujah. You’ve got to do that one soon!!! When you see the number of views you’ll be floored. (Yes there are still most definitely many more times that almost everyone will continue to get Mitch Slapped 😂 during recorded & live performances. He is truly unique & unbelievable!) You have become my absolute favorite reactor. I subscribed because of one of your Dimash reactions. It showed up as a suggested video. I was soooo happy to see you’d started to react to Pentatonix as well! Both are hands down my favorites. You’ve become my top reactor because of your deep dive into the musicality & not just your instant reaction to what your hearing & seeing. So thank you & please keep these reactions coming! PLEASE DO HALLELUJAH SOON! YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!

The profundity of this song is enormous, from John Lennon's commentary on war, to Pentatonix' embodiment of diverse unison of the human condition. The first time I heard/saw this I ugly-cried. I still tear up.

you and I actually learned something together here! I've been listening to PTX for YEARS, and I knew Kevin could sing, even though he rarely does... but I did NOT know he had a range that could rival Mitch!!! I've heard this song many times, but I've never seen the video, so I always assumed it was Mitch making those high notes. I didn't realize it was Kevin until now!
