Thank you so much for this. Getting the book ASAP!!! It's always best to enter any situation with your eyes open. Music is no different. It's a business like any other. And when money is involved best believe, greed, envy, backstabbing, sabotage, alot of Machiavellian moves are going to be made.

To Kyrikeys195: I like your list of the negative human emotions of insincere danger lurking. The regular call center, job, and office politics are difficult enough; hence, the music business will run one ragged if not equipped regarding insincere sapiens who sink and suck the succumb-able dry!

Knowledge is Power!!! You'll be a weapon the more you equip yourself with the ins & outs of the music industry and you'll never get taking advantage of. Confessions of a Record Producer (5th edition) by Moses Avalon is a good book as well.

Dear Bro Bolo: This is the most sobering and salient title given to any video title. Classic. Calligraphed in clay. *Before one begins to study music,* he must calculate his destination, direction and how to arrive. There is nothing sadder than wasting life learning, having *no stage -- only a fish bowl,* being scoffed at by brothers blaring their Beamers, Benz, bling and biatches -- while not even being able to blow out beans from your butt!

Yes... 100% NEED to have this book if you are or want to work in music in any way. I'm a sudent at Belmont University studying music business and production and this was the Music Business class textbook. We were required to read about 8 chapters of it but I read it all. This book is essential. Very happy that you added the fact that the music business world changes every single day because it really does.

Midi cord pack guy. 😀 You are very skilked on the keys but I need to create My own melodys rather then using midi packs. I can see why people buy it though. Also Bolo is on the Unison Midi cord pack add which is your compatition.
@nikokotoulas3 жыл бұрын
@@HOLLASOUNDS haha Bolo just did a review for ours, so he's coming to the good side :) On the note of melodies, a lot of artists get melodies from other songwriters and change them around. Plus a lot of genres (like Hip-Hop) were sampling melodies, etc. So while I get people writing their own melodies, sometimes even the greatest songwriters get inspo from other ones :)
@HOLLASOUNDS3 жыл бұрын
@@nikokotoulas Really Bolo has a review of your pack? That's cool I'll keep a look out for when that's posted. Yes your right many mainstream producers use midi pack or pre made loops or melodys, The main problem with midi packs is it can make some producers kinda lazy (in My opinion) and try to short cut there way to making music. I'd probabaly use yoir pack as inspiration rather then straight copy your work. EDIT I use loops made by other people in My beats alot.

I don't have "smash hits" but I have songs in movies, Smithsonian Institute Videos, broadcast productions, and on Grammy winning Albums. You do need a knowledge of the music business, but if you aren't affiliated with the right sources you won't likely be compensated. And if you don't know who's supposed to pay you, you shouldn't do work for anyone until you find that out upfront.

Passman's book is the one I started with 35 years ago. It was the clearest I've ever read. At 58 I feel like I need to go take a class in Music Business again. Between the MLC, Songtrust, and my aggregator, it's so confusing as to all the places I need to register to collect all my compulsories these days and the government did NOT simplify things. Thanks for telling people this! They need to know. I have a degree in Pro Audio & Business. I took all the classes. And it's all our if date now. Good luck everyone!

Just want to let you know how much your videos help me. When I doubted myself cause I thought I was too old to chase my dream, you did a video about not being too old to chase your dreams. That's just one example of how your videos are always on time for me. I'm working on owning my own record label, independent of course, and in the process of learning the business and now this video. Every time I need an answer your videos answers all my questions right on time. Thank you and keep doing what you do.

Bolo your channel and content is great. I watch your vid regularly. I still have a copy of the first edition from over 20 years ago along with books by Kashif and Moses Avalon. You are correct that artists should educate themselves. It is necessary for any profession anyone should enter. Books like these have been around for a while and the sad part is that every time smart artists start learning the industry and trying to do the right thing, the rules are changed and they must educate themselves on something new. CDs and physical media is almost irrelevant now to contacts in 2021. Artists are learning about streaming and 360 deals and they keep moving the goal posts. The goal of a label is to make as much money as possible without paying the artists lol. Keep on educating everyone, you're doing a great thing.

I’m choosing BA because I want to pursue a career in the Music industry, specifically in Audio Engineering/ Music Production. What I decided to do is get music business certifications rather than a degree and pursue BA as a bachelors degree so I get a knowledge not just for music but overall business. Marketing and management are big in the industry just like with contracts, sales etc. As far in the technical part, I decide to do trade school for AE/MP along with some course certificates. I thought of going to school to learn overall for music like Fullsail or NYU , The New School.. but I couldn’t afford it , and also because I didn’t want to waste time with evaluation, and audition process. But I did apply for scholarships and if that opportunity comes then more knowledge but pretty much I’m self teaching myself. But I was thinking bout this , reading books about the business and industry is great , definitely will check this out and use books form library as well!!

2:10- Only successful dude on KZbin I’ve heard admit it. Respect from man to man because that’s the hard truth. I have tracks with talib kweli...guess what? I got ripped off, he got ripped off, the studio got ripped off. That was 09’. This book is what I read directly afterwards because Talib himself told me to read it. He realized I was talented beat wise; not so much business cuz i jus didn’t think things fully through at 17 years old. To be fair that was the dj sumn talk case that year so, things were changing sample wise. I mean when the band “The Band” sues you...you’re better off swimming w caimans lol. I’m just glad it ended up being on the studio’s management cuz god that was scary AF bro.
