Hey everyone, Chris and Sam are back with another reaction video!
Lorna Shore came up in the comments from some other videos so we decided to check out this popular song from them to get started with catching up with their music! Our first attempt to post the full video reaction was blocked so we had to blur out the video out to keep KZbin from blocking the video completely. We tried several ways, but this was the only thing that worked.

There's a video where Will does this song in 1 take. You might enjoy it. There's also a video on the Charismatic Voice where he goes to medical specialists to take video of his vocal chords while he makes those noises.

You have to understand that these guys the last two years completely disrupted the genre by both making the heaviest and most intense sound with everything fans of the genre love and also introducing things that address everything people hate about the genre. Their songs are a wall of blast beats and inhuman demon noises but with the structure and melodic elements of way less heavier stuff. And nowhere is that more evident than in their Pain Remains trilogy. They completely broke the internet when they released music videos of what quickly went to be known as “deathcore ballads” and “those deathcore songs that made people cry of emotion” so you get an idea of how much revolutionary these guys are. If you plan on giving them another chance (specially since reactions to this song are guaranteed views so you’ll soon be run over by people commenting here) I’ll 100% recommend you to react to that Pain Remains trilogy.

Agree. Pain Remains is a must. I am not a deathcore guy at all but Pain Remains totally transcends the genre. It's a thing of beauty. Not for everyone but needs a listen for sure.

Will Ramos uses various techniques, fry screaming mostly, lots of tunnel throat, uses different positions of his tongue to get those high screams and those gutterol lows. He also uses the openesss of his mouth to create the different tones too. He has had multiple interviews with how he does things, has literal one takes doing everything that they actually recorded. and there is also another technique he uses where he forces air in his mouth to create specific sounds. Dude is a Death metal vocal genius and probably the best metal vocalist I have ever heard in my 28 years
@jamielynnpowers
@jamielynnpowers Жыл бұрын
The pig squeal at the end was influenced by Dickie Allen, Goblin King and singer of Infant Annihilator. Will Ramos said in an interview that they needed something for that breakdown, and when he did one pig squeal, the guys were like, “YES, now do that 3 more times.” The song IS super technical but I’m obsessed with it (as well as the back catalog before Will joined, Will’s side projects and covers…just all of it.) It gets me through my gym routine, though traffic, helps me write my book when I’m feeling uninspired, and gives me an outlet when I’ve had my fill of workplace stupidity (with earbuds, of course.) Not only that, Will is one of the most charming, down to earth, and appreciative metal vocalists I’ve ever heard of. He’s always going out of his way to meet fans and is just a doll. I’ve always loved heavy music, but since going down the Lorna Shore rabbit hole, I can’t go back to more mainstream heavy music. It all sounds too light and I’ll say it…even boring. Just goes to show there’s a sound for everyone!

Austin Archey is an incredible drummer. And what a way to introduce a new vocalist!!!! Will Ramos is one of the best death core vocalists atm in my opinion! :) You should check out Sun//Eater or Pain remains I: Dancing like flames. The latter is somewhat a deathcore ballad, and It's one of my favorite Lorna songs :)

One thing I appreciate here is the skill in composition and mixing. They have *so* many elements and styles in this, often played at offensive speed, so the result could be just terrible if not done very well. The fact that they can make it an assault that still flows smoothly is commendable. I think this is the only Lorna Shore track I have on my usual playlists because this is, mmm, easy listening when it comes to the storytellin and so. Pain Remains trilogy is... masterful, but the amount of sadness in it is just too much for me to bear very often.

You need to watch the Pain Remains Trilogy. Like others have said, this song was definitely for shock value as well as showing off their new vocalist. Their latest album (and the other songs on the EP this song comes off of) has such diversity within their pocket of metal. So much so that people who arent metal fans listen to it. I cant express enough, Listen to Pain Remains. At the very least the first part Dancing Like Flames (Yes its a three act piece). The emotion put in not just from the videos, but from the musicians is actually unreal.

You guys may not have been prepared, but you did an excellent reaction videos. To be fair this is in one of the most extreme genres of music that I can think of "Death Core", this song in particular sent them from "something to keep an eye on" to "All eyes on Lorna Shore" for the foreseeable future, the EP that this song is off of was absolutely breathtakingly heavy, while somehow being the most Accessible death core sound I've ever heard. Lorna Shore is singlehandedly responsible for reinvigorating my own personal interest in DeathCore, where before "To the Hellfire" I was actively skipping a lot of DeathCore to after that song I listen to almost every band I can find under that genre. It is also worth noting that their Lyrics are bar none some of the best writing I have heard since a few years ago when I deep dove Gojira. Do not sleep on these guys, check out some more of their music, I recommend Sun//Eater Lyrics video next!!

i love that you said it sounds like you’re in Diablo… when i was trying to explain what they sound like to my nephew to get him to check them out i just said “final boss fight music.” he’s now going with me to see them live in June. he was surprised to hear i liked these guys, and i pointed to this song as my ground zero for starting to listen to more extreme metal. before lorna the heaviest i regularly listened to was slipknot. now my collection includes lorna, slaughter to prevail, undeath, cannibal corpse, infant annihilator, carcosa, left to suffer, and more 🤷🏼‍♀️

Great reactions. I didn’t quite like this song either the first time i heard it, but I respected the skill and intensity of it and the more I listened to it, the more it possessed my soul. Now im fully possessed by this masterpiece and love to surrender to the darkness of this powerful “song”. It grows on you if you choose to subject yourself to it’s punishment. Also look up the lyrics to better understand it’s meaning. It’s basically about a human dieing and surrendering to the pit of hell and fully embracing being fully possessed by a demonic force at the end. At least that’s how I interpreted it. Peace 🤣👍

The kick drums are so fast because he is using toe/heal pedals so each rock of the foot is 2 hits. So basically the pedals let him run at 2x speed compared to typical double bass.

Those drummers use something called the heel toe technique. Its basically double stroking the pedal with each foot so hes only actually moving his feet about half that fast but the technique is very hard and it is still very fast. Thats not taking anything away from his skill. His name is Austin Archie and hes a fucking animal.

For the "pig high scream", I don't kwon for him, but for me, the easy way to do is just let the tong low and push it forward during "wisper" and just a little reduce the width of top throat. If you look the "one take vocal" of him and look what he does, some tricks are visibles, and after just try with your anatomy. (but do it safely :) )

You made some comments about the lack of dynamics, and I gotta really disagree - BUT I get where you're coming from and what you mean. There is little dynamic to be found in terms of softness to loudness, because that's the genre, but there is definitely dynamics in how the track rides through the different parts. Yes, there are parts 😅 but I do understand that unaccustomed ears only hears "brrrrrrr" as you put it, hehe. I like to compare this kind of music to whiskey. If you're not used to it and drink it for the first time there's a good chance you're only gonna taste the alcohol because of how strong it is. But if you get accustomed to it and experience more you're gonna taste the nuances.
