Japan has the New Wave of Heavy Metal well in hand and led primarily by Virtuoso level talented Women. Lovebites is at the Top of the Pecking order imo but there is at least 40 other Japanese bands worth mentioning. Classy Metal is what I call them. Classy looks,classy musicianship,classy writing and just pure Class. Also of note the BPM and shredding is predominant in nearly All 60 plus songs they have produced thus far. They are the Pro's Pro.

Music by Asami (vocals) and Mao - Lyrics by Asami. All write songs with Miyoko (black hair guitarist) composing about half of their songs. Asami is the primary lyricist. Miho, bassist and band founder, left the band last year. personal reasons. She has "Sat-in" with other musicians since. The drummer is Haruna, she is a beast on drums. Watch her, she makes it look easy, while going a zillion-miles-an- hour!!! Next Lovebites - "Swan Song" with Chopin Etude, one of the members is a pretty descent piano player.

The former bassist, Miho, left the band in 2021, and around the same time Miyako (brunette guitarist) was pregnant and got married, and the singer (Asami) also got married and later had a child in 2022, so a hiatus was more or less inevitable. The band have said that they didn't just want any bassist from the pool of their acquaintances in the Tokyo scene (which holds many talented musicians), but someone who could form a team with them and brought a fresh extra something, so they went through a lengthy open casting process last year, of which Fami was the winner. (Fami has and had a KZbin channel where she plays J-pop covers and her own music, which is very good- latin/funk-infused J-pop, and already had her first solo EP out, but she was in a creative and motivational slump when she heard of the audition, liked what she saw of the band and thought she should try being part of a band herself to cure her slump; she grew up listening to a lot of metal because her father is a metalhead.)

@GrayFox14 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reaction. The idea of creating a band (goals, what kind of music the band will play, songs in English, stage image - white dresses, etc.) belongs to Miho (bass).. Miho and Haruna (drums) used to play in a heavy metal band called DESTROSE. At the end of 2014, Haruna left DESTROSE, due to the fact that she was going to get married and decided to devote herself to her family. In mid-2015, DESTROSE announced a break in their activities, but in fact broke up. In 2016, Miho decided to start a new band and invited Haruna to join her. Together they found the other members of LOVEBITES. Miho leave "her dream band" at the very peak of the band's success : - excellent reviews by strict music critics of the leading music media on the band's Аlbums and ЕПs, - the GOLDEN GODS Metal Hammer Award in London, - successful performances at the world's largest rock festivals, - high positions in the charts (songs , EPs, Studio Albums, Live Albums , DVDs concerts), - international recognition: Studio Album 2020 and EP 2021 reached the TOP positions of the best releases of the year ) , etc. I will not explain everything in detail this applies to personal life Miho. Briefly: in 2018, Miho experienced a tragedy, the consequences of which she felt for the next three years, until her departure from LOVEBITES (August 17, 2021). Plus, in 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic began, which changed people's lives, had a strong psychological impact on many. The pandemic broke the creative plans of LOVEBITES (concerts were canceled or postponed many times in 2020-2021, etc., etc.). I think that's enough.

I know you disagree, but Symphony X is of this caliber, and they have been around for 25+ years now. Midori and Miyako are not at Michael Romeo's level yet, but i'm sure they will be eventually. Romeo has been doing this since before the Lovebites ladies were born. So he has a big head-start on them. In several ways, Lovebites is already ahead of Symphony X. Lovebites has released a lot of material in a relatively short amount of time. I'm used to waiting 4 years for a new Symphony X album. I have said this many times before, but I see Miyako following in Romeo's footsteps. Both have a strong classical background, both can play piano and guitar, both are super strong songwriters, and both of them like Star Wars! I have a strong appreciation for Lovebites, because I have spent 25 years with Symphony X. Don't discount those influences who have come before Lovebites. All musicians are inspired by other musicians who have come before them. The cycle keeps repeating for a new generation. Lovebites is the future. They will carry-on a legacy that was started back in the late 70's. Heavy Metal never dies, it just keeps evolving.

@@TheCyberMantis sorry Cyber I know who Micheal Romeo is and is the same as Yngwie Malmsteen repetitions solos no melodic sounds boring as hell. Sure they are super duper fast but that is not what make a great guitarist. @@salsaucedo I don't think you have heard much from Romeo, because he is not like how you describe him. Did you listen to one Symphony X song, and decide he's just an Yngwie clone? Can you judge Lovebites from one or two songs? If you only heard "Nameless Warrior" or "Soldier Stands Solitarily", you might think Lovebites only plays super-duper fast. Between all those guys you mentioned, and Lovebites, is Romeo. You want layered melodies? Romeo is a master of that. This band is very tight musically as well as emotionally. Miho, the former bassist, was their leader and wanted to create a band that played traditional heavy metal, the music she loved. The band gained popularity quickly, and began touring overseas. Their immense talent was obvious right from the get go, and in 2018 Metal Hammer magazine in the UK gave them their Golden Gods best new band award. Miho's father passed away at some point later and had a big impact on her mentally. She continued to perform with the band, but eventually during the height of the pandemic, when touring and shows were shut down, she seemed to have a change of heart. The band resumed doing shows in early 2021, but soon after Miho announced her desire to leave the band that she had created. The other members urged her to reconsider and stay and had countless meetings with her in order to find a way to get her to stay, but in the end they couldn't change her mind, so in August 2021 Miho officially announced her departure. It was devastating for the other band members at the time, because you could tell they were all emotionally attached to each other. Asami, the vocalist, and Miyako the guitarist and keyboardist, both got married and had babies during the resulting hiatus. But the band announced they would be back after a break. I am sure they needed time to get over the loss of Miho. During their time off though the remaining members all worked to improve themselves. Midori began working out in the gym and entered body fitness competitions, Miyako worked on her speed, and Asami improved her vocals. In 2022 they opened up auditions for a new bass player and after several months and three rounds of screening, Fami was chosen. Fami is a 20 year old phenom with her own KZbin channel and 675,000 subscribers ( more than Lovebites has). Judgement Day song and album is their comeback album and the band put everything they had into creating their best album to date. You can see and feel the power and emotion in this song. The album debuted at #1 in 8 countries around the world, including Japan, USA, and the UK. Fami has injected youth and enthusiasm into the band and gave them new life. The future is bright for Lovebites. They have become my all time favorite metal band since I first discovered them 2 years ago.

Nicely done gents. There's a lot to catch up on in the world of LOVEBITES much of which will be in the comments. But in case no one else has mentioned it I'll say that their band name comes from Halestorm's Love Bites. So Do I. Apparently the other members thought the song suited Asami's voice when they were recruiting her as the vocalist.
@GrayFox14 Жыл бұрын
Sorry. I will clarify . 🤗The name LOVEBITES appeared much later than the band was formed (Miho, Haruna, Midori and Asami). Until August 2017, Miyako (Mi-ya) was not a member of the band . She was a guest support musician. At first, the ladies performed covers of songs by famous bands and performed under a different name. For example, on August 4, 2016, the ladies performed (Asami was already a member of the band ) under the name POWERSLAVES . At one of the rehearsals they tried to play "Love Bites (So Do I)" and decided that from now on they will be called LOVEBITES. The band performed for the first time as LOVEBITES only on November 18, 2016.

Although Lovebites is technically and compositionally Clearly the 'best', depending on personal taste you might find other bands you like as well, or even better. *_Real_* music education is taught in Japan from elementary through Jr High, which has produced not only a large number of staggeringly good musicians, but also a very large _Audience_ that fills venues throughout the country to listen to music. A great next stop on your Lovebites journey would be Break the Wall - a serious Thrash song, with a Twist - kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4HGYYuBZdGBo7c 🤘🐺🤘

The Drummer Haruna and original bassist Miho were on a Fantasy Metal band called Destrose. That bands former members went on to form Mary's Blood, Nemophilia, Fate Gear. Disqualia and Mardelas. Mardelas has a song you might like called Apocalypse
The bassist and drummer where the founding members of Lovebites. I never really heard why she left other than she just wanted to do something else. She is on all their live stuff which I really suggest you watch. The other bass player was really good. This one so far seems better. Or, they are highlighting her a lot more. Also, as good as they are before this, they seem to be even better with the new bass player. Is it possible the new bass player is letting them go where they couldn't with the old one? I know next to nothing about music other than what I like. So maybe someone else can say. Fami, the base player here, is only 20 years old too. Oh, the singer writes the lyrics and the brunette guitar player writes the music. And plays unworldly piano and apparently drums too. The blond guitarists is ripped! She participates in fit (muscles) bikini contests. LOL. The only one the really speaks English very well is the singer. The others speak it some but not a lot from what I see.

Yeah, these women can play. If you want to see/hear a Japanese band who are even better metal musicians, check out Unlucky Morpheus. Their versions of Dance Of Eternity, Eruption and Far Beyond The Sun are killer.

Congratulations, you just found the best new metal band to come along in decades. (Forgive any overlap with the research you just did.) In their first five years of existence, they put themselves on par with the greatest bands of metal’s golden age. Other reviewers have described them as alien superheroes disguised as young women, angels, princesses of metal, and angry bridesmaids. They recently went on a year-and-a half hiatus while they searched for a new bassist. They announced the new bassist in October 2022 (see below) and dropped their first new song on December 22. Their new album, “Judgement Day”, was released two months later. Some background: They were formed in 2016 from the remnants of a legendary all-girl Japanese metal band called Destrose (yes, all-girl metal has been a thing in Japan since at least 1981). Miho (bass, chief headbanger and founder of the band) had a vision of a new band in the style of the great European bands of the golden age of metal. She recruited her former bandmate Haruna (drums, 4'9" “pocket nuclear reactor”); they needed two world-class guitarists, and so they went and found Midori and Miyako, who were with other groups. The four of them then found Asami, the singer, who was doing soul and blues at the time (she was also trained in ballet). Miyako has composed a little more than half of their music, with Miho composing a lot of their thrashier songs in collaboration with Mao, the lead composer of another band called Lightbringer. Midori has also been getting into the act, and they regularly perform a song written by Haruna as well. Asami writes most of the lyrics and is also getting involved in composing. In mid-2021, Miho left the band she had founded, for personal reasons. They went on hiatus while they searched for a new bassist, and during that time, two of them had babies, even as the band were writing and rehearsing their new album. They recently announced the new bassist, Fami, who is a young phenom and herself a composer and multi-instrumentalist. Their first song with Fami is “Judgement Day” kzbin.info/www/bejne/o2TYeJ2mYrVqeqs The instrumentalists studied all the great historical metal bands going back to Purple and Sabbath, through Maiden, Priest, Metallica, Helloween, Slayer etc. They have incorporated some of the best of each of those bands into their arsenal, and have created a sound that is fresh and cutting edge while paying tribute to the old masters. They toured with Dragonforce in 2019, and word from those in attendance was that next time around, it will be the ladies headlining. They do everything from soulful power ballads to heavy thrash. Almost every song includes face-melting solos by Miyako and Midori. The two guitarists are quite different in style and tone. Midori (blonde ponytail) is the extrovert and speed demon; Miyako is the introvert, with the more soulful feel (though she can also shred like crazy). Midori uses a cleaner tone, Miyako uses more distortion, pinch harmonics and pedal effects. The contrast makes their duets rich and dynamic. It doesn’t hurt that either one can smoke most of the shredders in the classic metal bands. As another reviewer said, "It seems criminal these two are allowed to be in the same band." Here are more clips you should check out: “Set the World on Fire” kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2rdpHtsnqySbMU from their 2021 concert DVD “Heavy Metal Never Dies”. “Don’t Bite the Dust” kzbin.info/www/bejne/pXnRfHp7n5Z2g8U, from the same concert; "Edge of the World" and "We the United", back to back: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ2TXohjrtB9ebc They form an incredible journey from darkness and despair to light and hope. Also, “Empty Daydream”, which starts as a ballad and becomes a real rocker: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oonLkKiDgp5noLc; Perhaps their greatest masterpiece, a showcase of multi-instrumental virtuosity and even classical dance “A Frozen Serenade” kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5aboYSMqpKFhJo; And their most reacted-to video, “Holy War”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJikqaN7paqWpNE Miyako is also a virtuoso concert pianist, and was headed for a career in classical music, before picking up the guitar. If you want to see what she can do on the piano, watch “Swan Song” WITH the prelude, which is Chopin’s “Revolutionary Etude” (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). Miyako wrote “Swan Song” using elements from several classical pieces including the Etude. This link should work: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXPLpaSdnr14d5Y. For a thrasher with heavy Slayer and Metallica vibes, “Break the Wall” kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4HGYYuBZdGBo7c includes two gorgeous and completely contrasting solos by M&M. For a heart-stopping ballad, “Epilogue” kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6rRn4t6m6qhpLs (this includes a second song, your choice whether or not to react to both) While you will sometimes hear you should only react to live clips, actually their MV’s are epic and worth seeing. Here are four of the most spectacular: "Shadowmaker" kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKPQoJ-kaqyrq9U This is the song that blew up and melted faces all over the world "When Destinies Align" kzbin.info/www/bejne/nn2plp9_bpiJoa8 "Glory to the World" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6itpXdojaqLfpY "Winds of Transylvania" kzbin.info/www/bejne/fqSoZYiYlLWdnpo. Finally, the audio tracks of some of the new album are up on youtube, and worth checking out. The band clearly came out swinging and wanted to make a statement. Every song on the album is a showcase of their incredible talent and songwriting capabilities. “Stand and Deliver” is a thrasher with a fun video of them in the studio. “Soldier Stands Solitarily”, the final song on the album, is being touted by some as the best thing they’ve done so far-I encourage you to see and decide for yourself! You'll get lots of suggestions, just one thing: don't bother with Bloodstock footage, the sound quality is poor. Best to take suggestions with actual links. Also, you can’t go wrong with any of their official clips. Welcome to the Wolf-Pack!

Although this song definitely has a distinct Power Metal vibe (as do many of their songs), its not really accurate to call Lovebites a "Power Metal" band. They play heavier than typical Power Metal, and they even have a half dozen or so straight up thrash songs as good (and in my opinion better) than anything recorded by Anthrax or Slayer. In fact, they have one song on their most recent album that musically has as black metal vibe. They also play a scattering of classic hard rock songs and even some more "modern" metal sounds. It's safest to just call them, "Heavy Metal".
