We discovered after filming that we had left the speakers up a little bit. It's not terrible for most of it but there are some weird parts. We apologize but we can't change the audio after it's been recorded. Reactions have a lot of moving parts trying to get the video and audio just right. Due to the nature of the live recording we cannot redo them as the reactions that are captured are genuinely done in the moment. Sorry again. We'll pay closer attention to this in the future!!

The piano intro was from Romantic era composer Frédéric Chopin's Étude Op. 10, No. 12 in C minor, also known as the "Revolutionary Étude". It is a notoriously difficult piece to play because of the relentless use of the left hand and Miyako, the lead guitarist/pianist extraordinaire, made it look easy. Miyako is a classically-trained pianist since the age of 3. She composes and arranges about half of Lovebites' discography, and she likes to seamlessly integrate neoclassical metal elements into some of her songs like this one. Frozen Serenade is another such epic by the girls. Definitely a showpiece for Asami's bellet skill as well Miyako and Midori adding some extra textures as well.

The Chopin piece Miyako (guitar/keyboards) is playing in the intro is "Etude OP10, No. 12" known as the "Revolutionary Etude." In 1831, some officers and citizens rose up against the Polish government, which was under the de facto control of the Russian Empire, in what was called the "November Revolution" but ended in failure due to the direct intervention of Russian troops. Chopin received this news during a performance tour. He never set foot on the soil of his homeland again. When the Russians invaded Warsaw, Chopin's agent presented "Etude OP10, No. 12" in Paris. Because of the agent's exaggerated publicity, people called this piece "Revolutionary Etude. Miyasako composed "Swan Song" based on this "Revolutionary Etude" and Dvorak's "New World Symphony. Asami (vocalist), a former ballerina, wrote the lyrics based on the historical background of "Revolutionary Etude" and inspired by Norse mythology and the ballet suite "Swan Lake. "SwanSong" is a requiem dedicated to the warriors who fought to reclaim their homeland, a masterpiece that only LOVEBITES could complete.

Many junior high and high schools in Japan have brass band clubs and light music clubs, so there are many rock musicians who can play instruments other than the piano. The word Etude is translated as Study. The Chopin piece was written to be practice for the left hand. This is a challenging left-hand study. Blending it into a rock song is even more impressive. Such talented musicians.

One of my many favorites from LOVEBITES 🎸🎹🐺 More songs with piano from Miyako, some with acoustic guitar from Midori and fire vocals by Asami: Epilogue Empty Daydream Edge of the world A Frozen serenade And very different is the song Spellbound (Miyako plays keys too, but not what you expect 😉 ) And yes, the drummer of Jinjer plays classical piano too. And he does also jazz stuff on the drums. And really have the feeling hearing not only rhythm in his drum playing, but also some kinds of melodies … The girls from the Warning also learned playing piano as kids. That’s one reason why these bands are all so good. Because they have a solid music education. And of course they have the talent and the passion …

Thank you for checking this out. Yes, right now there isn't an official version of this posted. Chopin (yes, pronounced Show-pan) was a Polish-born Romantic-era (1800’s) classical composer and piano virtuoso who lived most of his life in France. He is considered one of the great classical composers, specializing in highly technical works for piano. Miyako, who composes a lot of Lovebites’ music, is a professional-level concert pianist, and was originally going to make classical music her career. When she was 18, she picked up a guitar, and is now (quite obviously) an elite-level guitarist. She particularly likes the Romantic Era classical composers like Debussy, Dvořák and Chopin, as well as the Russian romantic composer Rachmaninoff. She composed “Swan Song” using elements of the New World Symphony (Dvořák) and Chopin’s Revolutionary Etude (official name Étude Opus 10, No. 12 in C minor). For this performance, she actually played the Etude as a prelude, but it’s not normally included in their shows.

Miyako is classicaly trained pianist since the age if 3. She took guitar at 18 yrs old. Most Lovebites songs she composes, plays bass too and drumms a little bit. Miyako can do everything. There are no limits for her. Asami (vocalist) said something like: Every band needs to have Miyako, but only we have her... Swan Song is one of her masterpieces. And she has few of them. Lovebites is truly something special. These girls are making metal beautiful again. Gotta love them.

Kinda takes your breath away, huh!! Miyako began piano lessons at 3 yo, at 18 she decided she wanted to go into Metal Music. Got a guitar and a "How To" book, No Lessons, Self Taught. I haven't read the comments already posted, but I'm sure someone has already let you know that Miyako (the guitarist on the right) isn't actually a guitar player so much as she's a concert level pianist. Not only that, but she arranges most of their songs (including this one). Chopin has several études (French for "studies"), which are primarily left-hand piano pieces. A lot of left-hand studies are boring, but Chopin made them sound like actual music. The Revolutionary étude, which Miyako is playing (Opus 10, No.12) was inspiration for her in this composing this song. Her outro (and the backing tracks during the chorus) are inspired by Chopin. She is a world-class musician, but when placed in a band with so many world-class musicians, seems like just one of the gals.

Tons of guitarists do lead with the neck pickup.... awesome sound if the guitar is on the bright side, or if your neck pickup has lots of presence or can be split single coil or run in parallel mode... just a more exciting and expressive tone on some guitars.

Midori started play the piano at 2 years old only giving up when she went to university. She started to play the guitar later than Miyako at the age of twenty ! At twenty she dropped out of university where she was studying pharmacy to attend one of Japan’s premier music schools to study guitar and the rest is history.

Thank you for the reaction, guys! But man, it's so much better if you watch this performance with subtitle, so you can understand the story from the song.. This song is like a grief and hope, that's why they playing it seriously.. It's not like they don't want to running around the stage like the other band, it's just the song that is not suitable for having fun like that..
