Kurt definitely talked a lot in interviews about having a mysterious stomach ailment which would cause him severe pain and vomiting, and claimed he turned to heroin as a way to “self medicate” after doctors supposedly weren’t able to diagnose or treat it. But I haven’t seen or read any interviews with any doctors who actually saw Kurt, and certainly his private medical records are not publicly available, so it really does appear to be an open question as to what this mysterious condition actually was, or what was actually causing it, or whether it even existed at all. Krist has mentioned that Kurt had a terrible diet of junk food, ice cream, pizza, etc, and that he smoked like a chimney, all of which are things that gastroenterologists would say can exacerbate various digestive issues, for example. Buzz Osborne from the Melvins has claimed that Kurt told him that he made the whole thing up for sympathy, but who really knows for sure. At the very least, it’s not uncommon for drug addicts to offer a self-serving excuse or justification for their drug abuse, so there’s that to consider, as well.

Grew up in Tacoma my dad grew up with people like Kurt and Layne they used to play in my aunts ex’s basement he had a pretty nice studio. Oh and rooster was a Vietnam vet who hung out around my family in the 80’s and 90’s and somehow layne new him and that’s how the song rooster was wrote. And another thing Kurt was a very quiet guy. I like how Billy Corgan pretty much laid out that the persona of Kurt Cobain was constructed to appeal to other people, that was just the attitude of people back then, to be so aloof and disconnected that you don't really care about anything, Kurt played that role very well.

I can't express how unbelievably amazing In Utereo is. Especially if you tweak the track listing and get the original mixes of the two singles in there... I mean it's shocking how good and how different and raw that album is. It shows Kurt's journey as a songwriter and its tight as hell. I absolutely LOVE Bleach too. Its so often forgotten about or dismissed. Put that and Incesticide on together and that's a DAMN good picture of where he came from. Yeah Nevermind is spectacular...but Butch Vig polished it a bit too much... However I think without that album... There wouldn't have been such a pivot and we wouldn't have gotten In Utereo.... When I listen to 'You Know You're Right' for the first time I was choking up. What could have been. Rest easy Kurt.

One of my favorite things about Kurt was how he singlehandedly retired the hair-metal bands from the mid-late 80s. As much as I liked and respected evh, he spawned a huge number of evh wannabes and the songs often were crap with a blistering fast gtr solo. I loved how Kurt played his own brand of solos that weren't flashy and were perfect for the songs, not standing on their own.

I was young when Nirvana had it's day and wasn't too into their music, but now I am and can appreciate how wise Cobain was. I can also identify with the depression that accompanies drug use, since I have a disability as a result of drinking & driving. Also, Dave Grohl worked for my uncle at Tower Records in Washington DC. On Conan he talks about doing an in store at Tower in Manhattan that the same uncle was managing at the time.
