The whole point of Neon Beats is that by following the rhythm of the music you're able to complete the levels faster for speedrunning lol, that's why it felt easy when you took it slower and did it without considering the rhythm.

I loved playing Jazz Jackrabbit as well. You can buy the full version of both games on GOG and they have it on sale right now for $1 for Jazz 1 or Jazz 2. Fun to finally get to play the full versions of the games and not the shareware ones.

Muse dash is definitely on rhythm lol. It just doesn't seem like it because it doesn't follow the notes or beat you think it does. And also sometimes the game adds something like a 'tom fill' or something like that.

You have to play Clone Hero. You don't need a guitar. You can use a keyboard and, before you start the song, set it to tap notes.

I'm a music writer and expert rhythm game player. To me, rhythm games are interments used to express and preform music that cannot the played by traditional instruments. To me they go hand and hand, i write the music, and then play it on a game. Very satisfying.

You should play Arcaea, Lanota, and Deemo. They are rhythm games that are sooooo good. Especially Deemo. Every song in Deemo is made in piano and the story is beautiful and emotional.

There's this flash game called Super Crazy Guitar Maniac Deluxe 4 that I was obsessed with when I was younger. It's basically what you expect from the title. You play the guitar on the songs in the game using your keyboard and get points if your timing is right.
