+1. Best live band I've ever seen, and I saw all the top fusion bands at their peak in the 80s and early 90s. Tribal Tech annihilated them all. I pretty much stopped going to shows after they broke up. TT wiped the plate clean.

Gary Willis is a MONSTER ! I don't understand why many bass players don't understand that he is the most unique, innovative and greatest bass player! They have to focus their attention on him in order to improve their playing and understanding the whole concept of jazz/fusion bass playing !

In my opinion , Scott Henderson is the guy that brought jazz fusion guitar to a wide audience. No disrespect to the notables that paved the way for him (Al Dimeola , Allan Holdsworth, John Scofield) No Doubt, Tribal Tech is the band and Scott Henderson is the man!

Scott followed a lot of others that brought jazz/fusion guitar to a wide audience long before him. the first was John McLaughlin. He was the one that really bridged the gap between Jazz/Rock/Classical/Flamenco/Middle Eastern Music (Indian), along with Blues and R&B. No one else has really done that many different music forms combined in their arsenal. With MO 1, they were head lining HUGE concerts in their last year before the change up.. MO 2 also headlined major concerts and their albums were big selling albums for instrumental albums. John influenced EVERYONE that came after him, plus he was influencing a lot of rock guitar players that weren't jazz fusion players. I like Scott, don't get me wrong, but even Al Dimeola is more prolific than Scott. Jeff Beck was also one of the most known jazz/rock guitar players after his influence from McLaughlin.

I love Scott's playing, great feel, and tone! Gary is nothing short of amazing. Kirk likes to bang the drums real loud then drink a few beers, he's got the chops to rock you. I hope he doesn't have to play Barry Manilow and is having fun. Kinsey looks like he might be able to get you a good deal on a computer, until he shows you what he can do on a keyboard! Thanks for the video.

The first time I heard Tribal Tech, 27 hears ago (and I still do, regularly), it really felt like something new. Not just their (obviously obvious) absurd virtuosity. It was the sound, the concept, the feeling. It's not just a simple evolution (like some say) from Zawinul, Corea, etc. It really did add something new. 27 years on and they are still no. 1 on my playlist. And Scott Henderson my no. 1guitarist. And Gary Willis, my no. 1 bassist. Period.

Gary holds everything together and gives it meaning..Kinsey's harmony is staggering..not to mention his soloing. When he saunters up to the keyboard in the final number and drops straight into that syncopated descending chromatic line was hysterical... Meanwhile Gary is always there, effortlessly providing a flawless backdrop...Such a powerhouse band. If you don't know music, you just don't know how good these guys are...

So good. Love the early TT. What sets Scott apart is that he never sounds like a noodling jazzer and has real blues/rock feel to go with it. His lines and arrangements are meolodic and themed in a way that connects in a broad musical sense. Creating music this sophisticated that's so listenable sets them apart.

Man Gary just killz. Ha, when I attended MI in 93-94 my locker was across the hall from Scotts' door to his classroom. I was late to many classes because if I could get to my locker with the overflow from his class filling the hallway I would often stand there in awe as Scott played. Amazing player. That was probably the most inspirational year of my life. Teachers like Scott, Tim Bogert, Craig Goldy, Scott Hansen, Steve Travato, Craig Turner, Danny Gill, Joe Elliot and so many other greats. How many people can say the got to share the stage with Tim Bogert (RIP) and Danny Gill in a Live Playing Workshop? Plus the free concerts like this one, Steve Travato with Albert Lee, Adrian Legg, T.O.P. Tommy Todesco, + Once in a lifetime experience.
