Mark is so awesome. I got to meet him and Eric Friedman after a Tremonti show a few years back. Such a kind, down to earth dude. Granted, I was freaking out inside because he's my guitar Idol.

really its just his way of downward pick slanting, he mosty uses legoto and economy picking/mini sweeps and usually only changes strings after an upstoke so his wrist approach to downward pick slanting helps his out a lot after upstrokes to get enought pick height to change strings fast and fluent.

David Stafford who cares what people think. Creed is still the best. I also like alter bridge. But some alter bridge fans get on my nerves, I know they hammer mark about not getting creed back even though it’s his decision

I think Creed gets a rap for their singles generally being similar in tone; which is normal. Their back catalog has some great tunes on it.

Interesting - I've never listened to very much of Tremonti's playing, but hearing this I'm realising how strong an influence he is on two of my favourites, Rob Chapman and Rabea Massaad - all those compound major third chords, distinctive single-string riffing, etc.!

Minor pentatonic and natural minor, yes. There's a good bit of mixolydian in his playing too. There's also this go-to descending lick you hear in a lot of his solos. Especially early alter bridge. He has a thing for stacked power chords as well. He seems to write a lot more in 6/8 than usual.

The end of "Cauterize" is one of the best sounding finger playing licks that bring that song together. Mark has a guitar lesson on it to. Bass tones played by fingers and octaves are his signature playing.

I'm glad you mentioned the legato and pinky/ring finger thing coz I've been trying to get that right for a while and whenever I play it's always a sticking point for me like it never sounds quite right. I'm intermediate level so I still have a lot to learn but I'm glad that I'm not alone in thinking that part can be a bit tricky when learning to play.

I've used the open 5th tunings, my favorite one is open C 5 tuning (CGCGCC) I have a tremonti-esque clean riff on. Also that was slick playing of buried alive

At 6:00, that actually sounds like a chord very similar to the opening of Coeur d'Alene. Like, the absolute first note that you hear in the song. Just thought that was kind of funny since you were talking about how that chord sounds exactly like Tremonti, not sure if it was him or Myles Kennedy that wrote that riff though.
