I'm a progressive metal composer, very influenced by Genesis, Gentle Giant, Dream Theater and so on. And man, how it is hard and complex to come up with musical ideas that have cohesion and at the same time are contrasting AND also audibly pleasant. Your chanel is helping so much on how to develop melody, how to deal with harmony, how to state the motifs. I'm so glad i found your chanel, thank you so much.

Harmonic movement is utterly fascinating. Aways valuable and inspring, Mr. Gareth's discussions. Doesn't matter what instrument one plays. This man is a treasure and this chanel is a joy.

A good informative video. When you look at the minor keys on the circle of 5ths in particular C#m the relative minor of E major, should it's enharmonic of Dbm also be noted in the circle like (C#/Db) or it's not required?
@MusicMattersGB
@MusicMattersGB Жыл бұрын
The circle of 5ths takes us to the point at which every note is sharp or flat. Keys like Db minor go beyond that point and would include double flats in the key signature.

@@MusicMattersGB I wrote the Scale of A flat minor (natural) linerarly on a piece of paper it looks as follows: (i=Abm) (iio=Bb dim) (III=Cb) (iv=Dbm) (v=Ebm) (VI=Fb) (VII=Gb) I noticed scale degree 4 (sub dom) is Dbm, however the Circle in virtually all photos I've ever seen online only mentions C#m where it really should make mention of Dbm (even if it's only a theoretical key). I say this because if you wanted to modulate from the tonic of Abm to the sub dominant of Dbm it's A to D which is 4, you can't have an (Abm), (Bb dim), (Cb Maj) then (C#m), it just doesn't work, the alphabet needs to be unique.

Hi! Thank you for your video. I am learning to transpose Schubert's Ave Maria on any key, but I have a few difficulties understanding some chord progressions in it. Schubert, after all, is well-known for his peculiar harmonies. Would you mind doing, when you have time, an analysis of this wonderful piece? Thank you in advance !

Interesting! Someone said that one thing to try, when learning Jazz, is to play all the chords as chord 7's... . Your video might explain one reason behind it.. . correct? 😃 At least jazz music seems to change key back and forth more often than other pop musics.

With this technique, doesn't really feel like change of keys... Its just a diatonic modulation to me.... Its my perspective nothing to criticize the content creaters of this video...
