I was thinking the same thing! I've always liked Level 42, but since they don't play shows over in the states anymore, and haven't for a long time, I've never had a chance to see them perform live so my only reference to them were their hit songs from the 80's that still play on the radio over here every now and then. As fate would have it, I randomly got into Pete Ray Biggin about 5 or 6 years ago from his band called PB Underground, and from there learned that he was the current drummer for Level 42, so I started searching for some of their live shows. To my surprise, they are freaking amazing and have quickly become one of my favorite live bands and I've never even seen them in person! Mark King is a bass GOD, and everyone else in the band are incredible musicians in their own right, too. I'm so glad that I stumbled upon all of these live shows. Here's to hoping that one day, before they all retire from playing live shows, I get to finally see them in person. I'll probably have to take a trip over the pond to make it happen, though.

Underrated I don't know, but I feel what you mean. 🙂 These bands were HUGE during the 80's, yet they are still touring (except Talk Talk, rest in peace Mark Hollis) and I keep hearing them on the radio in 2022, I love it !!!

If anyone ever speaks about 80s music on TV they mention Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet! There's loads of great musicians and bands in the 80s and they never get a mention! I suppose like the beatles or rolling stones in the 60s great bands around then never get props.

Biggins has elements of Gould and Husband, necessarily to play the songs like how they're supposed to sound and likely out of respect to them both, but it's also clear he finds many moments to impart his own take and add his own thing. A balance of respecting what came before but adding some of his own style. Excellent!

While the internet sucks 80% of the time, the other 20% is filled with things like random live concerts of amazing bands that we would have never otherwise known about or seen. I, too, am American and while I knew about Level 42 and liked some of their hit songs from back in the day, I never really considered myself a "fan" of the band. I'll probably never get to see them in person, as they don't ever play in the states anymore, I'm so glad that there are a handful of their full concerts on KZbin. Their live shows get replayed consistently on my playlist!

I've been a level 42 fan since 1983 when they released "The Sun Goes Down (Living It Up)" and have seen them play live in concert 7 times from The World Machine Concert at Hammersmith Apollo 1985 through to their farewell concert 14th October 1994 at the Royal Albert Hall, including seeing them twice on their 10th anniversary tour in 1989, then I watched Mark King on his "One Man" concert at Croydon Fairfield Halls in 1998. I have never been disappointed seeing them live and on their "Running In The Family" concert at Wembley, I went with 7 of my friends and had a great night, even they were impressed with the live performance. Unfortunately since moving away from London and now residing at the South Easy coast, I haven't had the chance to see them live. Mark King has always blown me away with his Bass slap playing technique and has a wonderful harmonization with Mike Lindup. Top quality band and well worth watching them live, those classics will soon get you cheering and dancin'.

I feel your pain Mark. I first saw them at Bradford St.Georges Hall in 1988 during the Staring At The Sun Tour. I saw Gary taking pics of St. Georges Hall outside whist I was chilling with my other Level 42 friend , but were too scared to ask for an autograph as we were only 17 years old. I think he was a keen photographer of his venues. A fantastic drummer also.

So nice to see a concert that hasn't been filmed on a 'phone. Last saw them live on the Guaranteed tour at Hammersmith Odeon. My appreciation of Level 42 goes back even further. 31 years' ago i was a department manager at a cash and carry who were tied in to a trading group. I was sent to assist the set up of a new party shop at Staples Corner (some of you may remember the bomb going off there). Well after the train journey and going straight to the store working all day I got a taxi to my 'hotel'. Checked in and asked where the bar was. Hey, I'd worked all day and fancied a pint. No bar and no mini bar. The room was a shoe box. It did have a power shower though which I took full advantage of. Oh and no dinner either. So I struck out into town and asked a few people where I could get a drink. Must have sounded like the local alcoholic. The response i usually got was 'What, an alcoholic drink?' Well I was in Golder's Green. I proceeded down the road and found something that said 'Karaoke Bar'. Cost me 5 quid to get in!! Walked up the stairs and heard a girl singing dreadfully out of key and a birthday celebration going on.Lots of food and i was hungry. Qued for my food and having eaten thought I'd check out this 'karaoke'. The guy said write down a song and you can sing it. So i did. Then the guy told me i should choose one out of the book. How was i to know? So i picked 'It's over' by Level 42. It was a song I knew and when I got on stage congratulated the guy for his birthday and sang the song. Got a lot of compliments afterwards. Great band good song writers and if you've seen this concert you'll appreciate how tight as a band they are. So nuts to the guy who complained about sound quality maybe you should have paid for a ticket. If I can convince my wife, I'll be seeing them in Bournemouth this year. Best wishes to all that read this

(I am a professional and have seen a lot of the top drummers over the past 35 years: Weckl, Blade, Chambers, Baron, Phillips etc and spoken to quite a few of them). When you listen to Level's old stuff with Phil Gould, you will hear he's so much more 'in the pocket' and playing for the music, not showing off some of his chops. My subjective opinion...

Beng a Level fan since 84, hearing Pete's drumming interpretations is almost like hearing Neil Peart play with Level 42. Which is nice in a way.

No shit, my dad & I were just listening to this song day before yesterday on our way either to or from Portland (Oregon.) I didn't even know these guys were still together. I wonder if my dad knows? Oh, & by 'this song,' I mean "Something About You." It's really the only Level 42 song I've ever liked.

Ronnie Scott Jeff Beck drummer Vinnie Colaiuta ...(oh Tal on bass) you gotta baby love child here. After all is played & done by all the greatest drummers ever over the 50 years i was pro...this young whipper snapper destroys them all. And all of them...the best of the best, would say the same. Mark - of course you're the man, but Pete Ray Biggin def the best of the best. Awesome

the drummer went up to a L42 sound check when he was 11 yo. He was invited to jam with the band on drums. and asked what L42 songs he could play he said "all og them"! he did well, and now playing in him self.

I feel he's throwing off the tempo but it could be the keyboardist's rather shot voice and the harmonies just being generally out. So that's a really cool story, I hope it's just my bad sense of timing as a piano player haha.. even if he's a little off he's doing a hard job and doing better than like 99.9 percent of us watching this could do esp under those circumstances
