It’s her choices for me. Such an emotive singer to begin with... it’s like she internalized the entire song line by line. It’s shown in every note. Every word. Every lyrical phrase. Her control and vocal agility just dominate the performance and then she adds the emotion. If you think listening to this brilliance is carthatic, imagine writing that! What a courageous artist! Bravery personified!!

Okay so lemme just say that I've watched a lot of reaction to this song, especially from musical/vocal coaches. I have to say that yours is the first one that I've actually enjoyed. Your reaction is informative and not pretentious and actually very helpful. I've never realized microphone technique until you mentioned it here and appreciate that you're clearly a talented musician that has a genuine appreciation for other musician's talent. Amazing reaction and you've absolutely earned a new sub.

Her mother died by suicide about a week after Yebba sang her first original song, causing "My Mind" to take on new meaning representing mental health. She says her artist name was chosen to honor her mother, who she said "always called her by the nickname" (her name Abbey written backwards) as a child.

You mentioned mic technique and one of my favorite parts of this performance is that she keeps that mic there for all the grit and projection and distortion like she’s clinging to it for dear life- like she wants everyone to hear it all. It’s so ballsy. That and her yodel sounds- primal and absolutely breathtaking. Please watch her Tiny Desk concert if you have not already- it’s a masterpiece!

Hi, David. You're the only person I've seen do a REACTION vid on Yebba who actually DID play pieces of the music through through it. I gotta say, although I don't want to hear the "reactors'" playing or TRYING to play. But you're the ONLY one I've heard to this point who actually CAN play and do justice. That aside, I absolutely LOVE YEBBA singing this song. I stumbled on it a few years ago, and have the SAME reaction EVERY TIME I hear it: I just break down crying!!!! Can't help it; don't try to conceal it. I just let the song take me. She has such a good range and control of her vocals; and it seems that this song is REAL to her personal experience. THAT kind of honesty and vulnerability is IRRESISTABLE to me. Now you gotta do a reaction to Snarky Puppy's Lingus!!!! If you like (or don't like) instrumentals, your gonna LOVE this band/orchestra!!!!! GUARANTEED!!!!!

Years ago, I heard a song by Tori Amos that (at the time) she said she only played live. I don’t know if she ever did a studio version of it. But at the time, I was going through a divorce, I was a single, working mom, without support and life was just hard. I started experiencing panic attacks and losing my hair due to all of the stress. Anyhoo, that song, Cooling, was my catharsis. Prior to that, music never had that impact on me, but it was healing and therapeutic. I’ve been through a lot of other things since and thankfully with counseling, I’ve learned to cope and I haven’t had a panic attack in more than 10 years (and even after going through years of infertility and cancer). So mentally, I’m good. But this song right here, this song, My Mind, takes me back, and emotionally has a similar impact on me that Cooling did. I’ve never been through the type of heartache she seems to have gone through (I actually wanted my divorce previously...he was a shithead), I went through a different kind of heartache (multiple miscarriages) but this song is such a gut punch that I can’t stop listening to it. I love it and I think this is one of my favorite reaction videos to it. I think I love the reaction videos because it’s validating that we’ve all had pain and she emotes it so painfully and beautifully.

Vibrato is one of my idiosyncrasies, I usually would not be keen on that really fast vibrato she chooses at the beginning of the song...but here? Damned if it doesn't actually sound like crying. Yebba is ridiculous, so happy to have found her.
