Your enthusiasm is totally merited and your comment on it reaching people who would normally find this kind of music difficult is also right on. I work with a young vocalist who is your normal pop consumer - with taste - who likes complexity and layers who loved this when I played it to her. This is the ultimate crossover where musical complexity still touches people. An EXTREMELY IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE FEAT THESE DAYS!!! I’m still trying to get my head around 7 going to 2, 3 and on to 4 in one song with crazy jazz chords, not only on the piano but also the bass. Ridiculous stuff:))))))))

doooooood-UH: watching this did my heart a world of good. I just heard this track for the first time two nights ago; a friend I studied at Berklee with sent it to me and I was just listening to it, not watching the video. Listened probably eight times in a row and had pretty much EXACTLY the same reactions you're having here, especially "Who the F**K is on bass and drums??" But then the 7/4 in the verses and the half-time 4/4 in the choruses and the incredible arrangement...but her vocal performance is just astounding. So then, I sent it to like twenty musician friends, still not knowing it's Will Smith's daughter. Hahaha. But seriously, I would be surprised if a pro jazz vocalist twice Willow's age could pull this off, and my evidence lies in her Tiny Desk performance. She NAILS the vocal just as well as she does on the recording. Cool video, dude, I'm gonna subscribe. I like listening to other fellow music nerds talk like I do...especially when they confirm my opinions. Hahahaha. ;-) PS - Just saw the top comment; it figures the drummer is the producer because the drum sounds are just fantastic. Incredible stuff. I call it the "McCarthy sound," after an indie rock producer I've worked with, Mike McCarthy.
