It's apparently a cello - although the lowest note is Bb 1. C string tuned down? Discuss:
@tanjajko72203 жыл бұрын
No clue but it sounds bloody marvellous 🤓
@wimg.23773 жыл бұрын
Isn't it a contrabass? Sounds like I have heard in a few classical, baroque pieces. Not used a lot that low, but it makes it sound with such medieval mystery, it just tugs your strings, even if slowly, but extended, meaningful ... P.S.: I just realizied that what we call a contrabass here is called a double bass over where you are :). P.S.2: Ok read a bit more further down here :). A cello, with down-tuned C-string? Wow ....
@TheMuserResolute3 жыл бұрын
Yup, contrabass is a double bass 🙂 I thought it was a double bass but I looked it up, seems to be a cello. It hits a B flat 1 which is below the range of a cello, but not unreasonable that it was scored for the bottom string (C string) to be tuned down a tone
@maxzero96473 жыл бұрын
@@TheMuserResolute It makes sense. Detuning strings is really common in metal and rock, but you mostly see it on the guitar and bass. Why not other strings, too?

It's possible that it went through a creative choice during the mixing process and they lowered the pitch on the cello track using a plugin (eg. melodyne et al) ps. Apologies for gravedigging a year old comment ahahaha

I can't understand why some people don't like this album, because they say this doesn't sound like Nightwish. What I love about Nightwish is that they are evolving all the time. It may take some time for some people to digest all new vibes, but what can you possible expect from musicians who are as talented as Nightwish is, especially Tuomas. 10 albums with same tune? Nope, not going to happen...

The cellist is Caroline Dale, principal cello of the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Metropolitan Orchestra. I first came upon her about 10 years ago when she performed with David Gilmour on his solo live DVD of the Meltdown Concert from the Royal Festival Hall. Apparently she has performed with many other artists, including the likes of Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, David Gray Sinead O’Connor. She’s performed on a few U2 tracks and quite a lot of film soundtracks. I’m sure that over the years she has come up with a few tricks to expand the range and sound of the cello. I really enjoy her playing.

My favorite cello player is Caroline Lavelle, although I must admit I never heard anything from her own work. She played with Loreena McKennitt, I saw her live in Amsterdam and she is also in the nights from alhambra DVD. And looking at wikipedia, she apparently did some work with Tarja.

Regarding "Green": when I first listened to this, I wondered why Tuomas removed the melody and left the harmonic structure (other than it is breathtakingly beautiful). I think in his mischievous way of drawing the listener into being part of the music, he has left it so I (and others) can fill in "the silence between the notes" . And those of us who love to hike, many of us know that, in nature, the most important part of the experience is the silence that resonates between the myriad heartbeats.

They released "Ad Astra" early on. Back then, the COVID crisis was at its start, more or less. Here in Italy, it was the moment in which the first nation-wide quarantine was ordered, when in some of the italian tows the coffins were being carried away by the Army's trucks because there was no more room for them. I remember putting "Ad Astra" on while i was driving the ambulance back to base one evening. Driving though completely deserted streets, seeing flags at the windows, together with the drawings of children saying all would be well. Some of them thanking doctors and us ambulance drivers. I don't think i can properly convey the sheer power of those deserted streets around me combined with Ad Astra's beauty and powerful message.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to do this... so few reactors have taken the time to react to the Nature CD. Now, you asked for ideas, and for what it is worth, I will share my thoughts on this wonderful composition. I see it as an orchestral "Greatest Show on Earth" or "Procession". in the way it traces the same ages of the planet. We start with , a view of the earth from space, the grandest vista of all, and move into , where life begins to bloom in the oceans. We then have , as out ancestors left the oceans and first crawled upon the land, moss and trees grew and eventually, with we see the first gatherings of primitive man in the new grasslands. points to the incredible good fortune our planet has in having a strong magnetic field which prevents our atmosphere being blown away and is a nod to what has allowed us to evolve the complex eco systems that we have. depicts the last Ice Age and it was after that that we really began to create civilisations. is a fairly new term used to describe the period in the earth geology where mankind has begun to have a dramatic effect on the planet. It specifically describes the period beginning after WWII, what we refer to as the Atomic Age, and I think the similarity to The Blue is meant to indicate the gathering of energy before the leap... It was a major evolutionary step when our ancestors first crawled from the oceans and it will be equally notable when we begin to colonise our solar system... and this is the last part, . Whether or not this is the intended track or meaning of this wonderful CD, it is how it speaks to me.

My thoughts about this "song". What surprises me the most is that this composition was written by the same man who wrote songs like Master passion greed or Your`s is an empty hope, or The Kinslayer, or Dark chest of wonders. Completely and absolutely different genres. But actually this should not surprise me with a genius like Toumas Holopainen. Metalheads who partly like the 2nd CD more than the 1st. A man who brings Auri to life through his great music. A man who together with Don Rosa set the story of Scrooge McDuck to music (absolute masterpiece). Auri 2 is coming soon, I bet it will be great again. Music goes beyond borders. Young or old, rich or poor, people of all social classes like to listen to the music of Toumas Holopainen. Music brings the world together. I recommend to listen to Dark passion play instrumental (especially Meadows of heaven, For the heart i once had). One of the best I have ever heard. Toumas does not need to hide from greats like Hans Zimmer. I cry a little bit now. Good night to you.

The song with all of the images of humanity is called Anthropocene, which is a proposed period on the geologic calender for when humans started to leave lasting traces in the rock record. Only just found this! Great to see you react to an underappreciated work, and good to hear the thoughts of someone with musical knowledge. (I often have this on repeat when I am working at home, but KZbin only just suggested your reaction. Go figure.) Some observations: 1. When Tuomas started working with arranger Pip Williams (while composing Once IIRC), he would try to do some really strange things in his orchestral score and Pip would patiently explain why they couldn't work. As time has gone on Tuomas has learned the art of the possible and Kit has had less work to do, but I think some of the creativity you hear in the arrangement comes from Tuomas' non-traditional route into orchestral composition. 2. On a related note, apparently rock and metal composers are much more prone to leaving a piece unresolved. (I'm not musically knowledgeable so I don't really know what that means, but hey...) 3. Another thing to thank Pip for is that he introduced Troy to the band! 4. Thanks for doing the fan video - I was really disappointed when Doug Helvering didn't. All the best

Thanks. Yeh I think the fan video is not seen as much - Not sure if Doug was recommended that or not, but he is extremely knowledgeable. I do have an extremely detailed analysis on this coming out soon which will really expand this for you. Hopefully you’ll be able to catch it!

I screamed (internally because 5.30 AM) when I got this notification in the morning. Now I'm finally home and watching! I've been waiting for this... And I'm not getting disappointed. Thank you so much for this!!! Both checking out this masterpiece at all and doing such a wonderful reaction on it. ♥♥♥ Also, great you chose this video. It's so beautifully done. And thanks for your honesty of not connecting with it. But, if you re-listen, try relaxing to it with your eyes closed. Your mind might go on a whole new journey. It's super meditative and an amazing experience. Maybe you'll connect with the entirety of the piece and its theme together more then? Who knows! ;) Nevertheless I was glad to see you still liked it a lot even if not feeling too connected. ♥ The feel of getting stabbed with beauty pretty much nails it. ("It's so lovely. I'm dying. If this is the last thing I'll hear, I don't care!" - Was laughing at this one, because my exact thoughts when I first listened to it!) (Sorry for the messy comment, I keep editing while watching. Just so in awe.) And ooooh my gooood, a livestream will be SO awesome!! Now I just gotta hope for it to be streamed on a weekend haha ♥

@@TheMuserResolute Of course I would! Always highly appreciate when people like you are doing a reaction on this.♥ (There should be much more people giving it a try.) Well in that case I'm looking forward to it!! Side note on this piece right here: I'm someone who loves being in nature and normally don't understand people who walk through a lively forest or at the beach with their headphones on - BUT I once made an exception for All The Works in the coastal forest by the city I live in... Because I wanted to try what happens to my nature experience if I'm adding this music to it (on a low volume so I could still here the birds sing and the sound of the leaves above and ocean waves down below)... And well: 10/10 can recommend. It was more than just another experience, honestly... (Sorry for randomly telling you about that but I can't hold back whenever I get the chance to talk about this, haha ♥)

Yours is one the most informed commentary I have seen when it comes to Tuomas' works. More to the point, you _get_ his work. The beauty of Tuomas' genius is that it is unconstrained. This leaves some behind, but that is to be expected. The entire album - both CDs - is a masterpiece, and Tuomas stands easily in the company of modern composers like Sibelius and Nielsen, Ralph Vaughn Williams and Karl Orff, Hans Zimmer and Thomas Bergersen.

Hey MTR, found you this week and I been enjoying your Reaction (Reactionalysis) I wanted to ask you if you ever heard of The Warning a Mexican Rock Band, based out of Monterrey Mexico with a worldwide following. I wanted to share a some history because its important for you know their background and that this is not an overnight success but a band that has been working for 8 years to get to where they are today, just like the great rock/metal bands of old, growing organically to the point that they are set to explode into the world of Rock and to especially make a different to women in rock today! First of all they are all under 21 year of age today with the youngest being 16 with 1EP and 2 albums under their belt with their 3rd. Album coming out in a few weeks under the Lava/Republic label, first one of a 5 record deal that they just inked this past July of 2020, with complete creative control of their music and the label can only recommend, it's up to the Ladies to approve, unheard of for an independent band being signed by a major label. Here are some milestones in their young career. They have been approached by various record labels and reality shows and they have turned them down as they wanted to keep the integrity of their music and image. 2012 They became a band Dany (Guitar & Main Vocal, 12yrs old), Pau (Drums & Main Vocal, 10yrs old), and Ale (Bass & Chorus, 7yrs old) 2013 The Warning was born. 2015 First EP - Escape the Mind 2017 1st. Album XXI Century Blood 2018 2nd. Album Queen of the Murder Scene a concept album that tells a story of longing, regret, self-loathing, and follows a woman into full-on psychosis, murder, suicide. Rock Opera! Dull Knives is from this story, amazing Lyrics. 32 original songs independently done thru Patreon and Kickstarter, they have gotten shoutouts on Social Media from bands that have influenced them: Kirk Hammett of Metalica Enter Sand Cover tweeted "The drummer kicks maximum ass"! twitter.com/KirkHammett/status/586590482169368577 Lzzy Hale from HaleStorm after seeing this performance asked them to tour with her after Covid twitter.com/LZZYHALE/status/1294889194528047105 After Ale (Bass) did a cover of the Hysteria riff for fans, MUSE gave her a shoutout on all their social media platforms twitter.com/muse/status/1305098901200961536 Dave Ellefson of Megadeath, recently congratulated them on IG as they were recording their 3rd. Album in the fall of 2020, He taught them, classes, at the Berklee College of Music in 2015 and has kept up with their progress instagram.com/p/CGx64epJ71o/ They have been notice and acclaimed by Cold Play, Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) they opened Concerts 2x Def Leppard, The Killers, Stryper, they performed at Hell or Heaven festival, only Mexican Band invited. Rock al Parque in Colombia, these are some of the largest rock festivals in latín America and many others. They are the only band from Mexico and the only Rock Band from Latin America to ever sign DIRECTLY with a major U.S. label SUB!

They just finished recording their 3rd album and Spector will release a Signature Series bass in the name of the *16-year old* bassist. using it in moors along with the pipes (at least to me) represents the vikings of that area, which gets hammered home in anthropocene as humanity always thrived along water- oceans, rivers, lakes- and when there was no ocean left to conquer we took to the skies, sailing among clouds, and eventually, stars. there's hints of ad astra in anthropocene too. (in ad astra i hear a countermelody to the end of 'shudder before the beautiful' as well!)

Please make reaction to Diana Ankudinova - the most unique young talented singer. One of my favourite things to find and enjoy is music that gives me chills and goosebumps. I was cruising KZbin recently and discovered a Russian talent show contestant that did just that, with one of the best, most unique voices I've heard in many years. Her delivery was nothing short of magical and I searched out more and more and more, and...more chills. I was stunned to find that the first performance I heard was when she was 14!!!! She's now 17 and still developing. She sings in Russian, French, English and Arabic. The covers she performed on that show are very popular on KZbin. Many KZbinrs publish reactions on these performances, which include the ethnic song "River" (in a new musical arrangement), "Blizzard", "Wicked Game", "Human", "Derniere Danse", "Helwa Ya Baladi" and others. Please react to one of Diana's songs and I promise she will surprise you.

Ad Astra works so much better as this end piece here than as the "single" that they used from this disc 2. It needs that intro to it that was missing. To me the unresolved ending links us to Endlessness and the continuous nature of the universe! Green is one of my favourites I now think after a lot of listens together with Aurorae.
