I got an old Starmania live LP and I fell in love with some of the songs. Then I looked up all later performances. Turns out not only this musical is big thing for francophone world and still topical in so many ways; the music just never gets old, many of the songs (this, Le Monde est Stone, Le Blues de Businessman/J'aurais voulu etre un artiste) still get recorded again and again and I love it.

This song is from Starmania created in my neck of the woods. Starmania is a Canadian-French cyberpunk rock opera written in 1976 with music by Michel Berger and book and lyrics by Luc Plamondon. It debuted in 1978 with a studio recording of the songs, before premiering on stage in 1979. Several of its songs have passed into mainstream Francophone pop culture; it is now considered one of the most famous rock operas in French history.

Hello. Welcome to the world of Dimash, the greatest singer on the planet. Great comments, which I share. You will see that it is not the range, but how he uses it., with unmatched expressiveness. I recommend you Sinful Passion, great, without words; Your love, an intensity show, an interpretation masterclass; Love is like a dream, a beautiful and emotional song (until tears). Ti amo cosi, a beautiful trio, and Ulisse, a beautiful duo, both operatic. Samaltau (Tokyo Jazz) very, very emotional folk song. And I highly recommend you Olimpico (Ogni Pietra), my favorite, also operatic and tremendously powerful; and I recommend the fancam version, where his dramatic performance and bocal technique are closely seen (the fancam does not have optimal sound but there is a version of it that mixes the image with the right sound). There are many more, but these are only to start. I recommend you to see a translation of the lyrics in each one so you can appreciate how accurate each interpretation is. Regards from Argentine, Máximo

There have been hundreds of performers of this song since 1976, but not one has any vocal data to perform it like Dimash did! Maestro Michel Berger, for sure, would have been happy if it was such a performer who would have come to him for an audition - all the notes were effortlessly taken, and how much strength and tenderness in this performance, what actor’s presentation of each line exactly according to the content of the song. "S.O.S." Dimasha, like a scarf with a magical aroma, flying over the square in the "Perfumer" - one wave and everyone is fascinated! The tone is incredible, penetrating the very heart! S.O.S. of a Man in Distress "Starmania" (french rock opera). Music - Michel Berger, text - Luc Plamondon Why do I live, why do I die? Why do I live, why do I cry? Here is the SOS of a man in distress I've never had both feet upon the ground I'd rather be a bird I don't fit into this skin I'd like to see the world turned upside down If ever it were beautiful It's lovelier from above, from above I've always confused life with the comic strips Even wished I could transform I feel something That draws me That draws me That draws me up Into the great lotto of the universe I don't have the right numbers I don't fit into this skin I don't want to be a robot Eating, working, sleeping Why do I live, why do I die Why do I live, why do I cry I think I'm catching waves From another world I've never had both feet upon the ground I'd rather be a bird I'd like to see the world turned upside down I'd rather be a bird Sleep, child, sleep.

You are right when you say that Dimash is not of this Earth. He is something entirely unique and beautiful. If you'd like to see the limits of his range, he slides up to a full-bodied D8 in his live performance of Unforgettable Day (at Gakku). That particular note is higher than what's on a standard piano. Insane stuff. Other performances you might enjoy include Sinful Passion (where he accomplishes a 25-second-long continuous riff, without breathing), Love Is Like a Dream, The Love of Tired Swans, Adagio, Opera 2...Literally anything you see of this guy's is going to simply flatten you. If you thought S.O.S. was amazing, and it is, just wait, brother.

Dimash has masters degrees in both classical and contemporary vocals. He was offered a position w/ Astana Opera but refused it, since his passion is fusion singing. You'll notice many switch-ups throughout his songs as he decides, note by note and line by line exactly what kind of tone he wants. He has the capability of an opera singer, but he doesn't stop there. He's very much an artist, nothing frozen in time, but transforms with each performance. This SOS was 2017; listen to the MTV Brazil live version he did this fall, or the Tokyo Jazz Festival track live-streamed from his studio early this year, and you'll see major change. Have fun, enjoy the ride, share reactions if and when you want to.... we're always eager to hear more. Speaking for myself, I thought my fan girl days were over decades ago. Heard Dimash randomly and plunged into my obsessive phase of learning everything I could in a (futile) attempt to understand how that voice is possible...and of course, it doesn't matter how or why. Dimash's voice is so sweet and pure that I'm simply addicted. Gotta' have my fix of his vocals every single day.

Remember that the shoe must go on was learned phoneticly in a week for the Singer performance 3rd one IIRC. That lets me forgive the English being a bit off. Just did not seem to connect the emotion to it as speakers of the languages he knows indicate. His English has improved at least in singing- have not heard him speak English -- but in a few interviews it seemed he understood things before the translator got to them.

Mike, you had a unique Dimash first reaction, and I must have seen a thousand so far. You were intensely delighted, shocked, amazed, and gratified--and it was visceral, physical, as well as musically informed (you quickly duplicated his melody and picked out his exact notes on your keyboard). You're right. We Dears search for new Dimash reactions daily. We Know reactors will be impressed, but we're curious about Why, and what each has to say about their experience. Many educate us about vocal techniques we know nothing about. Rarely, someone notices something that no one else has, which jumps out to us from then on (note Dimash's fleeting smile during the very long pause at the end, mentioned only 2-3 times so far). Simply, we're connoisseurs of Dimash!

Dimash is not about demonstrating his entire range in every song. He is about expressing the meaning and the emotions of the song in the most appropriate way possible. If you check the meaning of the lyrics of SOS, you will understand the reason for the contrast between high and low. As he himself has said, he is a singer, not a vocal acrobat or clown. In many songs he uses only very limited range and they are so beautiful. Here is the version with Eng subs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4nXanadf811nrM&app=desktop. By the way, his highest note is D8, sung during a live performance - not even on the piano, and he can also go lower than in SOS. But personally this is not the main reason to consider him the best vocalist on this planet. It's how beautiful his voice is in every register, how perfect his technique is in every genre and style of singing and how much emotion he conveys while singing. He always moves me beyond words, transports me to another world and makes my soul fly when he sings, no matter in what register(s). If you wish to continue with Dimash, the second song he performed in the same competition is Opera 2, which is a very fun song. kzbin.info/www/bejne/l5-unohnf5Wfb8k And, by the way, I totally believe that many of the reactions to Dimash are honest - because, frankly, that's how really many people feel while listening to him. I know that's exactly how I felt and still feel while listening to him. So why not many others as well? If a vocalist is great, why not acknowledge it?

I pray they never stop reacting to this song by him. The more on this ride with us the better --- and probably better for the world too !!!!! Bless you and yours. 🙏🙏🙏🎼💖💖💖

If you are afraid of copyright strikes, you can use the videos from Dimash's channel, he allows reactors to use them. I suggest you to listen Love is Like a Dream or Sinfull Passion, both of them are amazing in so many ways. And for his highest note, you can watch Unforgettable Day from Gakku Concert.

@@paulinachlastakova1620 unfortunately, lately with the newest videos, it has been really hard for reactors to use because it keep getting blocked. But, I saw in Dimash's official news website, that he's trying to stop the copyright strikes on youtubers. Probably his managers or agents are blocking the videos :/

I really like your reaction while you're listening, and I hope you'll find out that Dimash's singing is not about his vocal range but about conveying and sharing emotions and stories with his audience. In that respect he is a master, THIS is his artistery, not vocal acrobatics for its own sake. Dimash himself considers his vocal abilities (and range) only as a tool to do what a song or a message requires. Some Dears are so proud of Dimash and in some descriptions his range seems overemphasized. Dimash is about storytelling with a most versatile, beautiful and touching voice, and I hope you will join him and us and simply enjoy the music of this incredible youn man! ❤️

Dimash is seen as THE best singer in the world by millions of his fans called "dears". If you would like to be taken on a journey with Dimash, may I recommend you react to the videos in the following order: 1) SOS (Great intro to Dimash's vocals) 2) Sinful Passion (expands on the intro to his vocal range) 3) Adagio (Highlights his stage presence and passion with a song) 4) Olympico (Displays his operatic high and low registers with power) 5) Opera 2 (Dimash having fun with his high ranges) 6) Show must go on (Shows how he makes existing famous songs his own) 7) Qairan Elim (His first video director position). Come get Dimashified. You will not regret it.

Excellent reaction........When you calculate, based on the information available, DIMASH has been in training for this career since he was about 5 years of age. And if he has practiced, on average, 3 hours per day, and 300 hundred days per year, for about 21 years, that total would equate to about 18,900 hours of training, plus, you need the intelligence and talent of DIMASH...........Yes, he is from another PLANET.....My guess, Jupiter.

Dimash is a phenomenon from Kazakhstan, he started singing lessons and 5 when it was found he has perfect pitch. He is university educated with degrees in classical opera, another in contemporary music, pop and jazz with a major in vocal. He also completed a Broadway musical masterclass and has just (18th June 2020) completed his Masters specialising in Composition, and receiving his Masters degree with Honours, having achieved the maximum score of 100% and has just started his PhD. His range is over 6 octaves (7 now) but Dimash is dismissive and says it's not how big your range is but what you do with it. He has won many prestigious singing competitions and is a decorated national treasure in his native Kazakhstan. He sings in 12 different languages, speaks fluent Kazakh and Russian, is pretty good with English but is still studying it along with Mandarin which he says is a very hard language to learn but again he is doing well with it. In this performance he was 22 and in a competition for famous professional singers in China he was invited as a wildcard and after this one song was catapulted to stardom and is now a pop superstar in China. He is now also famous in Russia mainly for his neo classical work with Igor Krutoy and many of those works are very operatic. His vocals range from a rich bass baritone through to an extremely high soprano and his whistle register has hit a D8 for 5 seconds with vibrato. He is on a solo world tour tight now and in his concerts he sings for around 3 hours with an eclectic mix of styles. He is from a very musical family both parents and his sister sing, mother is a soprano. Dimash was offered a place with the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan but turned it down to follow his own path and he has been very successful thus far, but I suspect world domination will soon come his way. He is a multi instrumentalist too and is very competent with 8 instruments but can play just about anything. He is 26 now, and is mostly known as a live performer, he has released a triple platinum album in China though. It has been recognised that his high notes are not whistle, but head voice, Dimash rarely uses his whistle register but when he does its spectacular like everything else about him. He has billions of fans worldwide and I am definitely one of them, and he calls us his Dears, as we are all as dear to him as his family, and he means it, he knows who helped to make him famous. He is a softly spoken, polite, elegant and very humble respectful young man. He deserves every bit of the success he is having, he has worked very hard for the past 20 plus years and now his dreams as a young 5 year old are coming true. There is an interview he did for BBC World Service in 2018 where the interviewer showed a drawing he did when he was 5 of him singing on a big stage with microphones, speakers and his beloved music cassettes showing his desire to be where he is now. His recent sellout world tour has been postponed due to the covid-19 epidemic but will restart when its safe to do so. He has concerts lined up in Dusseldorf, Prague and Minsk there will be others. Thank you for your reaction, please do more, he has more than enough videos on KZbin. Bravo Dimash 💖

Thanks for your reaction..it was obviously stirring your emotions..thats what Dimash does to his listeners... And by the way his stage presence is also very powerful, in this one I notice his eyes, his gaze the first time I saw this performance, and it affected me immediately.. You just know he feels the music, the lyrics, very deeply.. He is from the angelic realm, actually.

You are correct. So many reactors do Dimash for subscriptions. The fans are aware of it. However, more and more people become aware of Dimash by watching those reactors and as fans we would like to see him gain the international recognition we feel he deserves. This song is the tip of the iceberg and was in 2017. He has only improved. He does have an official You Tube channel which contains incredible live performances. I hope you will consider doing more reactions of course but if not, I hope you will continue to listen to and learn about Dimash on your own. As far as a link where you can see some of the range, here is a link to him doing the Diva Dance from the movie Fifth Element at a live concert. It is short. However, Dimash sings some songs in his low range and goes drastically higher such as, Sinful Passion which is also stunning. For now, here is the Diva Dance. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pWbdfqimirSah9E

While Dimash does in fact have a 6+ octave vocal range, the most octaves he usually spans in a single song is about 4. “Diva Dance”, “Your Love”, “Ogni Pietra”, and some versions of “Know” are good examples. He values storytelling over pyrotechnics so he generally only uses what is necessary for that particular song. His performance with the most octaves spanned is probably the Gakku version of “Unforgettable Day” which spans 5+ easily.

FYI ppl are calling him the best singer in the world not just because of his range 😊 it's because of EVERYTHING! He's just one COMPLETE singer! You'll know how complete if you continue your journey! Even if you don't want to do reactions of him again because of the reactabait thingy, then just look up ALL his songs! To know the extent of his abilities, you'll need to see EVERYTHING! slow song, fast song, acrobatic songs, one octave song, simple pop song, heartfelt song........ all you can get your hands on!! Fancams, backstage singing, rehearsals, etc! Indulge in them all THEN you'll know why he's the best 😁 and why he has so many loyal fans!! Because there's no other singers like him! I kid you not!!

Here's what I've learned on my Dimash journey so far. This song is what gained him his initial worldwide fame but it barely scratches the surface of what he can do in both vocals and performance. Each Dimash song is a new and exciting experience and is different from everything else he has done. For some variety I suggest "Olimpico," "Love Is Like a Dream," "Across Endless Dimensions, " 'Your Love," "Daybreak," "Daididau," "Love of Tired Swans," and "Autumn Strong." And whatever you do, don't fail to react at some point in time to "Adagio," (the 2017 version on The Singer).

In auto tune times for our generations is a delight to witness the artistry and genius of Dimash, he is not only a singer but the Best Singer in the World, no doubt. He is university trained in Classical opera vocals to degree level, also holds a degree in contemporary pop music and jazz with a major in vocals, and now has finished his master degree in music composition with a top mark of 100%. He is also a very humble person who is not interested in the showing off, he is a genuine and unique born artist. Please continue to react and confirm by yourself. Suggestions Sinful Passion, Love is like a dream, Samaltau (Tokio Jazz Festival), Your love, Ogni Pietra. 🎤❤️👏👏
