Oh, man. I have to say... In a vast sea of video tutorials all decorated with "Like a Pro!", or "No one will tell you this secret!!!", you just explain things as they are and as they need to be explained. Clear and direct. You just make the whole video interesting from start to end. Brilliant stuff. Thank you so much.

you forgot to switch off the auto release therefore making the release knob not responding to your settings of the reverb ducking properly.. your work is always an inspiration every time I watch.. thanks for impacting

I'm just coming back into engineering work after a 20+ year hiatus. Last I did this, we were using tape. Jono is the BEST at describing what I used to know and transcribing into into what I now need to know! Perfect! And Thank You, Sir! In the passed 6 months, I've helped a very good friend home record, bring it to fruition, and Master it here in my studio to the Label calling the artist up personally to ask why they sound, "So much better than they have in 20 years". Thank you, Jono!

Yes, exactly this one! I‘m very thankful for it and applied it almost 1:1 to my vocal track which I‘m currently working on! Thanks so much. I thinking brought my vocal track on a higher level, although I‘m anything else than a good singer.

Excellent - thanks so much for this brilliant exposition of such a superb production technique. I suspect that all other aspiring producers and mix engineers would have know this already as it's obviously such an important part of that toolkit - finally I've caught up. Thanks!!!

Great tutorial !! Very clear ! Finally understood how it works. Question: what's the difference between changing the bus fader or changing the amount of signal feeding the bus from the track (bus 4 in the video) ?

My question is : how do you sidechain the same reverb bus with compression sent to the main vocal to let’s say harmonies/octaves and background vocal tracks? Of course you can just make multiple busses with the same exact chain of reverb and compressor side chained to each octave, harmony and background vocal track, but is there a more efficient way?

Great tip! I noticed in the video that the Auto Release button is engaged. What is the relationship between that button and the Release knob? I was under the assumption that if it is engaged, the knob has no effect, but this video suggests otherwise. Jono's videos are always so practical and helpful. Thank you!

Drove my brain crazy for awhile too until I read the manual, having used pro hardware comps for years. But they work in conjunction with each other. So no, turning Auto on does not disengage the Release. It just allows the Release to work "more" dynamically with the incoming signal. So you could set the Release manually first and then turn on Auto for better control of very dynamic, changing or program material. That may not be a perfect explanation, but you could download the manual for clarification. I keep one on my system for quick checks of confusion.

I don't understand why you left it on Output rather than selecting Side Chain. You enabled the side chain at top right, but never took it off Output. If you don't need to, what is that selection for then?

in this scenario he is actually using the compressor as an automated control for the reverb in context of the music. the sc option you mentioned is a sc filter of the compression.
