it's called "Vachaspati" in Indian carnatic music, it's a parent scale that's not used much but its derived scale called "Saraswati" is extremely popular. It's derived by omitting the major second from the scale and omitting the flat 7th during ascending and including it while descending. to get the feel of the scale you can play A B D# E F# A - G F# E D# B A

This mode can also be called the acoustic scale, or the Bartok scale, because he used it a lot in his works, for example the very beginning of the third movement of the Sonata for two pianos and percussion. That was also used by Debussy (1st movement of La Mer) and Scriabin.

One interesting fact is that all chords built from this scale are relative to each other, after all this is a mode of the melodic minor. When you use altered mode for example for the V in blues, you can use all other melodic minor stackings from the scale the altered chord came.

If you take, lets say, C major scale, some chords are relative, like Cmaj7 and Am7, or Fmaj7 and Dm7. That's because they share 2 notes on the triad or 3 notes in the tetrad. But in melodic minor, if you take, lets say, C melodic minor, all chords stacked in that harmonic field are relative to each other. And it has important consequences, such as an impossibility to create cadences with these chords, and the possibility to substitute them for each other.

The only things I came up with for that chord you didn't give a name for, other than D#m7b5/A, are these: A6/b5, which has a major third); F#m6/A, which would be an obvious derivation from D#m7b5/A; and C#Lyd6, or C#Lyd/add13. A6/b5 sounds more my style, and is a deliciously devilish way to find out who really knows their theory. 😈

(1) Isn't the natural 7 a G# not a G? (2) I was going to comment about "minor 7 flat 5", but you made that point later. 8-) (3) I normally don't "smash the like", because I usually download these videos and watch them. (It's a habit from days before high speed Internet.) (4) One observation that you didn't make. There are two major triads, two diminished triads, and two minor triads, each of which is a whole step apart. That means you can play some music based on the A, C#dim, and Em, and move it up a whole step and repeat as B, D#dim, and F#m, and you're still in the same scale. (The 7ths of the minor chords don't match up, though.)
@sharadsemilo
@sharadsemilo 4 жыл бұрын
That's a great observation (4). I also approach things in a similar fashion. About (1) - That's the reason it's called Mixolydian, it suggest a b7. And that's also the reason the Lydian is dominant

3) considering that we KZbinrs rise and fall thanks to views and likes, if you like these videos DO consider 'smashing the like'. It's not just a vanity thing for us creators: it's literally how KZbin decides if our videos deserve to be shown - which ultimately determines if it's worth for us creator to do videos to share for free on KZbin, or if we would better direct our efforts somewhere else. These videos are free. And a 'like' does not cost anything either ;-)

Maybe strange comment but it jumped out at me: If you can maybe deactivate the video title translation feature, it makes a bad impression, the German version of the video title, for example uses the German word for scale in the sense of scaling up an image and not the word for scale in the musical context, makes your video seem like dumb bot generated click bait, which is a pity. (Also it uses the formal version of the German you which sounds extremely strange in this context, as normally youtubers don't talk to their audience, as if they are much older then them or in a formal setting, where such a pronoun is normally employed.)
