I am 23 years old with Autism. I do play percussion with the Houma-Terrebonne Community Band. I have been playing musical instruments since I was 12 years old. I was in grade school that time when my teacher realized that I have a music talent. It is a SHAME that schools cut back on stuff like that. I graduated high school with a 3.4 average with a regular diploma. Music has been a part of my normal life since the very beginning.

I have two autistic children one who is on the low end of the spectrum and one on the high end. They both love music and to dance. I love that you use music to breakthrough and reach these children. :)

Hi I have two autistic children too and they are four and two. I would like to ask how’s your kids doing ? And do you have any tips for raising them ? Thank you !

My kids are grown except my teenager and doing okay. I took psychology with an emphasis on childhood development to help me understand and help them because I had zero help or resources when raising them. The main piece of advice I would give is to find a support group for parents of autistic children, look around your community for things and people that can help you and your kids navigate the world around them. Most of all have patience and pick your battles. @@anniecao1199

i love thid method i use it fir everything.you are exactly right with floor time and going intobthe childs world.they become so much more aware ofbtheir surroundings and those who are there beside them.i tried healing my son.i wanted his autism to go away, when that didnt work i tried extensive therapy at different levels.he still was different.he played alone, didmt like hugs, just was not happy.i gave in..and i have learned a whole new world from my son with just letting go and living in his world.his expression through music and he has learned so much because of music.he is a bright 3 yr old.that loves hugs, plays with his sisters and enjoyys life more than before.we all enjoy life more because autism is not a disease, its not a disability.it is a different way of life and a better more broader approach if i say so myself.thank you to this therapist that goes into the childs world amd teaches based on their abilities.its so rewarding in th e end..

This is beautiful! Any way to incorporate music should always be a top priority. ❤️ I want to add that while it may appear that autistics are unaware of others presence, what may be happening, (I believe anyhow), is avoiding unwanted communication stresses from the sensory overload and or, the disconnect in the brain that often occurs in autism.. being aphasic-Inability to express or receive speech.

AMT got me over my PDA in a year. I am now writing for my book everyday and can clean my home whenever I want. I can completely contain my meltdowns and remember nmbers and addresses much better. I no longer burn out from exercise and videogames are now a leisure activity and not an addiction.

Very well structured video. I like that it shows the importance of music in any child's development , as well as its significant role for establishing communication with autistic children.

My grandson is autistic he has somewhat limited verbalization communication , and whenever I watch him, I will sing songs . This past weekend, my allergies were acting up, so I made up a.song about my allergies . After I sang to him my song , he said," Grandma, that's so funny."

They don't have the inability but Difficulty. Also we can't generalise and should say that MOST of them have such difficulty but not all.

I'm a music therapist who has recently started working with a child on the spectrum. I really wish there were collections of interventions I could purchase or watch videos of. Karen Hook seems like an amazing therapist.
