Bassist Marko has said that this is a "love song", a poetic, mythological & metaphorical love song of a man (Devil) and woman (Mermaid of the Deep Dark Ocean- the Oceanborn) where she does not return his love or seductions. "I will die for the love of the mermaid, Her seduction, beauty and scorn. Welcome to the end of your life, HAIL the OCEANBORN". This creates chaos in the Mermaids world, “Disgraced is my virginity, death has woven my wedding dress”. As the Mermaid begs “Leave me be!” the Devil says “This apathetic life must drown”. The music then becomes intense and the stage lights turn BLUE as the Siren belts out these sharp staccato notes. In the end they break up "setting the dolphins free". Their "song" is over but will “echo” and carry on, "the eternity will begin once again in peace" they both move on. Metal Musical Theater at its best!!!

This song is an absolute banger 🤘😎🤘. Kai's (Kai Hahto, ex Wintersun drummer) drumming on this is just crazy ( Kai Hahto "The Human Metronome", or in my book Kai "The Machine Gun" Hahto )!!! In one interview Tuomas/Marko said that Floor has a lungs of a dolphin (That long note is 💥)!!! Plus, she holds the last note (A4) of Nightwish - Ad Astra for 17 seconds (10/6/2022 Sweden Festival). If this wasn't impressive enough, I can also add than now she's just one, I mean ONE, second short from equaling Pavarotti's longest belt ever recorded. So,.... Nuff Said !!!! NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘

Great reaction. Floor's outfit here and on the recent Human Nature tour are custom made for her by Royal Black Couture & Corsetry from Vienna and are inspired by a steampunk aesthetic. During the pandemic on one of her YT videos (I think it was a Fan Friday) after recently turning 40, she said no more heels on stage while performing. You can see on the videos from the 2021 virtual concert and their Human Nature tour concerts that her boots, which are super cool, have little to no heel on them!

What I love about Nightwish is that, when they do insert a growl, they keep it as a condiment, not the whole meal, which is where it should be kept lol. To my ears, growling is the like hearing someone with gastro-intestinal issues, and the whole screamo thing is the equivalent of hearing the impotent rage of a toddler having a meltdown.

The Decades tour in 2018 played a lot of older Tarja era songs. This song is from the 2nd album , Oceanborn, in 1998, it predates Marko in the band. Studio version has vocals by Tarja and guest Tapio Wilska. Tuomas sang on 4 songs in studio on the first album, he said he wasn't good enough and hasn't since, other than a couple backing vocals. Between then , and when Marko joined in 2001, they would use guests for male vocals, including Tapio, and Sonata Arctica's Tony Kakko. In this song, the male Devil character, is amorously pursuing the female Mermaid character, she wants nothing to do with it, and manages to get away.

Coming from the world of The Who and Yes.... I always felt like Nightwish bass needed to be pumped up. He even uses John Entwistle's Warwick buzzard, at times. I feel as though The Who and Yes always had prominent bass that did not detract from the other instruments. They both also split their frequencies into higher and lower ends, so their sound spreads out much more. Both bands also make use of orchestration and synth, and the bass never clashes, in my opinion. I'm always down with turning up the bass!
