It's not Tuomas singing - he's the keyboardist, band leader, and primary composer for Nightwish. The singer is Troy Donockley, the band's multi-instrumentalist and current backup singer.

Floor recorded her parts in her home studio only 6 weeks after giving birth to her second daughter. She said she barely could stand and after every song she would go to her newborn to clean and feed, whilst the other Nightwish members did the mixing. Rinse and repeat until all the lyrics were recorded.

Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that Tuomas wrote to celebrate the life of his father who passed away in 2021. For me it empowers us to recognize our connection to nature and one another, ultimately signifying that even in times of uncertainty, despair & sorrow, there is beauty and hope to be found under the glow of the lanternlight. This song is so emotional, that they needed several takes to record Floor's vocals as she started crying over and over again. P.S. Their new album "Yesterwynde" is a sonic masterpiece.

My personal song of the year 2024. Top 3 in my NW rating. Whatever guard you have up, when Floor's voice comes in she cut's thru it like a fresh sharpened butcher knife and get's you right into your soul and while your bleeding out you feel satisfied. When Floor goes into her emotional mode you can sleep in the finnish winter outside in the woods and still be warmed by her voice and feel comfortable. Much Love from Germany to you and your passionate reactions!

About the song structure: It's worth reading the lyrics, because often, especially in the more recent albums, the lyrics explain some of the musical choices that have been made. In this song it's everywhere. How Floor's vocal decisions reflect the emotions in the story, how the surprising piano section acts as a transition, how the mood changes along the way... Tuomas is a storyteller, and music is how his stories come to life.

"Yesterwynde "is the opening track for the album and is really a prelude for it. If you check it out you'll see how it links to "Lanternlight". "An Ocean of Strange Islands" is a song from the same album that I think you would find both musically and vocally interesting. It's probably the heaviest track on the album, but still has its lighter moments. Floor shows off her vocal agility, navigating very quick, long passages while maintaining her diction. BTW, her name is pronounced just like the English word "floor". It's the same in Dutch as it is in English.

I love it that most of this song is in her lower range, and it's very low indeed. I believe she gets down to a D3. Her upper range is so well developed I had no idea her lower one was as well. Without the electric instruments does this qualify as an art song, like the ones often done in recitals? It has a wee bit of pop quality in the melody, but the arrangement doesn't sound pop at all. It reminds me a bit of Rachmaninoff. This is the first Nightwish song to make me cry.

Great response to this rather splendid song by Nightwish. It's my favourite track on the album. I would recommend that you get a new search engine as anything that suggests Tuomas as the singer, must be, at the very best, drunk. He did sing on some of the tracks on the first Nightwish album - it's really not his thing. The boy Troy Donockley - the famous Cumbrian multi-instrumentalist - is the only additional singer on this album from the band. Choirs are used on several tracks and some Tongan singers on one track, The Children of 'Ata.

Tuomas loves composing with an orchestra, he is a big Zimmer fan (and the name of his cat is Vangelis) If you watch/hear the intro of their Wacken 2013 concert: Zimmer! At the key change you noticed, the mood is also changing: from melancholic to hope. At that moment colors coming in.... The movie scenes in the background are to support that feeling of times that are not long ago but seem to be from another world. Some shots show her with two faces, one looking back like the god Janus (?) About (part of) the movie scenes in the background: I recognized pope Leo XIII and wiki is saying: "Leo XIII, who was born in 1810 and was thus 86 years old in 1896, is considered the earliest-born person ever to be captured on film. The images of him are well-known, and recently were enhanced and colorized on-line.” kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXq5gmBnqZ5lnqMsi=hXFM4fDfXhhyaWan

I have played the album many, many times in each version and this is my favourite song. It has become one of my top 6 NW songs. Watch David K's analysis of the video, for explanation of much of the videography. The genre of this song is "Nightwish". There is no other. Floor articulating absolutely perfectly, you heat every "t". I love Floors low register best - but I think you should stick to lower registers, having an off key male singer over the top of Floor is not good. I encourage anyone to listen to the instrumental and the orchestral versions of the album. This song is just as moving in both versions if you are attuned to music. In fact all the songs reveal greater connections with older NW than you might at first hear from the full version. A similar sentiment is found in the previous track but one, Hiraeth. For info, Tuomas says the standout track is The Children of 'Ata. He also thinks the album is best heard from start to finish in order. I think I agree as it has what in classical music we might refer to as a cyclic . architecture One reviewer said: "Lanternlight" plays the role of concluding tear-jerker, but with a sincerity and finesse that gently reinforce the humanistic thrust of this whole record. Tuomas also says: "The whole theme of the album is time, history, humanism, mortality. And it has a really optimistic vibe going through it all." - I think that time and history element comes out strongly in this song. About Floor's voice: Personally I have always thought (unlike many) that Floor's lowest register, though she says it is most difficult for her, really shines as my favourite part of her range. It is like velvet. But when she first changes to the high register, after all that low register, it really hits and is a "tingle factor" moment for me. Troy is a perfect complement in this song, both in harmony and in his lead vocal at the end . Just a gorgeous, beautiful, heartrending song. This song is a love song to our forefathers - Tuomas started writing the album in Jan 2021 and his father died 6 Feb only a few short weeks later. This song is latgely inspired by that but the whole album is about our links to the past. So this one is full of references to past albums and other songs on this album. Its sbout all our ancestors still being with us: atoms and molecules recycled into the streams, the trees, the moss under your feet, the pebbles, the oceans In other words, the sort of lyricism I only find in Tuomas and in Jackson Browne.

Happy New Year! And good news! From October to December, Diana Ankudinova took part in the show Avatar. This show is similar to the show The Masked Singer, but instead of costumes, the artists are covered in sensors and are in a room behind the stage and control digital avatars. Diana performed in the avatar of the Firebird and WON, no one recognized Diana for 9 episodes. The culmination of the performance was the Firebird's performance to the song by Yma Sumac - Taki Rari, where Diana demonstrated fantastic vocals and record-breaking high notes (dramatic contralto and G#6🤯). Videos in better quality with English subtitles are provided by KWstas Vagias.

Hey, Peter! Very nice video! Thanks for not having it Premier in a month and a half. ;-) AND... I know you'll get a lot of this, but she pronounces her name like it looks. Like an actual 'floor.' Or do you say, "I need to vacuum my fleers"? In that case, carry on, brother. And her last name is pronounced Yonson... but I'll keep watching your NW videos either way. Or maybe you're doing like Suite Clarity... when they react to NW, they say "Jansen" on purpose, just to inflame the hardcores. 🤣

At the end of the song, it's Troy Donockley. He has a very distinct voice that I really love! I love his song on the Album titled, Human :: Nature titled "Harvest!" Troy plays multiple instruments ( the Nightwish Army has a little saying about Troy, "What instrument does Troy play?" The answer is "Yes! ) As a guy who sang in a traveling Choir in the late 1970" to early 1980"s! It was easy to find me, as I am 6'6" and sang, what my mother called, a Basso, and had recently injured my left knee playing contact sports. So I had a stool to sit on so my leg wouldn't collapse on me! It was lots of fun! I actually regretted not going back to my University to get more training as even at 67 years young, I love to sing!

A lot of my favourite songs by Paul Robeson (one of my singer heroes) are recitals with just his voice and Lawrence Brown's piano. Having said that, the point where this song always gets to me (if it hasn't already) is when you have the orchestral build, round about the time you were talking about genre - I am that easily affected by the emotional manipulation of the moment. Great reaction, ta!

You still have some misconceptions about Floor. First her name is Floor not Fleur. She definitely is not a opera singer turned metal singer. After graduating from the then new 'Rock Academy' at Tilburg, The Netherlands in 2003, she studied 2 years at the Conservatory (1 year opera and 1 year music theatre while performing with her first symphonic metal band 'After Forever', which she joined at the age of 16 in 1997. She can do it all from full opera to death growls. She calls herself a musical nerd alway seeking to fill her already overflowing musical toolbox.

You've heard her many times now - so why can't you pronounce her name properly? the J in Jansen is soft - therefore it is pronounced Yansen. It may seem like I'm being pedantic here but, I would believe that you actually liked her (rather than doing it for the likes) if you bothered to get her name right. The USA is the most multi cultural country on the planet, but the most useless with language. Sorry, but you need to do better.
