"Insanity that we have all of these graduates coming out of school that can't get a job." Our education system has been dumbed down since Reagan. At this point we have people in an entire region of our country who falsely believe that racism and slavery had nothing to do with the civil war. If there were jobs that only hired stupid people, Americans would all qualify. It doesn't have to be that way. The corporation I work for has started using H1B Visas to attract qualified workers. Prior to that, we'd have roles sit open for a year or more before we could find any qualified Americans. Or we'd have to offer a sign-on bonus to convince folks to move from another state to work for our company. @@bhrigu5769 I have to disagree. That's supposed to be the reason for H-1B positions, but since the 1980s American tech companies have been importing workers for positions being held by Americans because they accept much lower pay. In many cases they force the American workers to train the new-hires replacing them or else they will not receive their severance pay. H-1B workers are also expected to work much longer hours and weekends because they know they cannot complain and risk losing their H-1B sponsorship. Musk also doesn't support building-up STEM education so Americans can fill future tech jobs. The reason isn't because Americans are too dumb, as he implies. That's ridiculous. The reason is that American workers are too expensive. He prefers importing cheap (slave) labor over Americans. He's not for building America, he's for enriching Elon Musk.

I got laid off even though I was a solid and steady 20 year performer. What you are proposing is reverse DEI. American tech workers must be prioritized because they are American, not because they are the best available talent. There is a thing called "American exceptionalism" it's rooted in meritocracy. Perform and you won't have to worry about foreigners and besides there is no skill set as oppotuned as tech work. If you can't get a job. You can create your own and you hire as much ppl as you want. So this "I'm being overlooked because of foreigners" is an excuse for mediocrity.

Surely it hasn’t been to attract top talent. Shouldn’t companies hire based on meritocracy? If a foreign engineer is miles ahead of his American counterparts the company is going to hire the more skilled person. The sad reality is the US has fallen behind on the skilled talent needed for critical future industries like AI and microchip manufacturing. It’ll take years to catch the workforce back up. 100%. But as it stands, for tech, these companies need to PROVE that they can't find anyone to fill these positions vs making it so difficult to get through their unnecessarily complex interview processes that American workers just can't hack it and shouldn't have to put up with it. Across the board in tech, whether you're a software engineer, involved in product, or marketing, or just about any function...the companies are purposefully making it really tough and then turning around claiming they need to bring in more foreign workers. It's not right. It's not fair to the taxpayers. The H1-B and similar express programs should be abolished. Period. American companies need to invest in the workforce like they used to. We should probably also get rid of this concept of "At-Will" employment to speed along the commitment that companies have to the people that work for them.

Right, if we had cheaper and easier access to higher education, we wouldn't have to seek talent from other Countries. Most Americans have to go a decade or more into debt to get a college degree, while those we are hiring from other countries, either get free education or only have to spend a fraction of what Americans spend. Some companies offer benefits of paying for some forms of education, but if they had more incentive to invest in American workers, they might be more likely to hire lessor skilled Americans and help them reach the skills needed for those types of roles.

It's also why they tried really hard to get people to think "nationalist" was the equivalent of "proud". lmao All of trumps pins, posters, hats, etc are made in China. Most of the other jobs absolutely cannot and will not be brought back here. Tariffs are a concept not understood by these people. They want us stupid; stupid enough to believe their "America First" slogan when their party has always put us last. They didn't put America first when HW Bush invaded Iraq. No, he did that because one of his sons invested the family fortune in oil wells in Kuwait. I read about this in the Army Times as a soldier who had volunteered for that war. The Army Times could not have lied about such a thing because lying about the commander in chief would be illegal so the reporter would have been in jail and the story would not have seen print. @LoyaltyIsEarned Sorry to hear this happen to you too. Airlines regularly recruit mechanics from abroad, including our neighboring country, on technical visas. Immigrant workers typically accept lower wages, aware that they will gain US citizenship in the future. Once they secure citizenship, many choose to move on from their initial employer, either to request higher wages or explore new opportunities. This is a familiar trend in my industry. I am curious about who will advocate for the American people's interests.

I don't support this idea of "automatic green cards for graduates." Every foreigner should have to immigrate. As long as the country is attractive to immigrants, people will apply to come here. Also, that policy wouldn't put American workers first, instead it will continue to give them a backseat to those that can afford to not only come here but also to study here. If you want to introduce a program like this then you should provide free study at a community college or university (your choice) to every citizen.

The reason that Americans don't do these jobs is these companies won't pay American wages. Removing the option to employ someone for slave wages will force them to pay better. What about training the americans?Corporates use American as a market target but not for employment. Sad.The outsourcing of American jobs to offshore associates in India has raised concerns about incompetence and bias. It appears that some Indian executives in leadership positions are manipulating the system to their advantage, prioritizing their own interests over the well-being of American workers. Furthermore, many consultancy firms providing cheap offshore labor are owned or influenced by individuals holding leadership positions in corporations. This creates a clear conflict of interest, as these executives prioritize profits over the impact on American jobs.

H-1bs are supposed to be used to allow workers with skills that are not found in the US to be able to work here. In reality they are used to hire workers at rates lower than what comfortable skill employees in the US are requesting. In essence it's too hire employees at a lower salary. Take a random 1000 H1Bs and see if there are comparable employees in the US. My swag would be that all of them have a US citizen counterpart with the same skills. There might be four in the entire program that don't have a US counterpart. My guess would be their skills would be in quantum physics or something.

I see a point to the program with what it is meant to do. If there are literally no US citizens in your area to do the job then this is a good program to use. However, that's like 5 to 10 people in the entire world. Just as a software engineer I could see it in the job ads. 99% of software developers with 5 years of experience would fit the role of all those job ads. And asymptotic 99.9999% with 10 years of experience would fit those job ads.
@Omego2K

@@garyishanecdotally I don't see it as false. Look at all the contract jobs accepting sponsorship at 50 to 60 an hour for a full stack developer with 10 years of experience. I could be wrong, but anecdotally that is not the case. Not saying 50 an hour chump change, but nowhere near the price of a US citizen with 10 years of experience. Also, if there is a comparable wage in the US then that means there are employees in the US that are able to be acquired. If that's the case that means that the H1B is not necessary
@garyish
@garyish 19 күн бұрын
@@Omego2K I was making 70/hour on h1b before getting my green card approved. And there were several h1bs in the pipeline making that or more. Sometimes up to 100/hour for different positions. But this is why anecdotal examples are just that.. anecdotal
