Checking Wolf Traps...WHAT'S THAT?

Don't have a clue how much that might apply to wolves. Thanks again for the videos. I sure look forward each day.

HA! I was sure it was until I zoomed in too. Ears and all! That sounds about right really. Wolves are few and far between here. The ranchers say we are over run, but really it doesn't take very many to do a lot of damage. Since they are pack animals, you can catch several at a time if you have enough traps set in the right spot, but they are widespread and have to find your traps first. It can be a very long time, or not at all catching them.

At my friend's cabin northern Wisconsin, they have a wolf tree stump like that right by the fire pit. It's always fun to drive up in the dark and see the headlights "flash" it and watch the reaction of people who haven't been there before. thanks for sharing.

Good morning Gary. I love the panoramic view of the mountains. I feel inspired to paint them whenever I see them. A 72 hour time limit seems is about right to check wolf sets. If I had a dollar for every time I've mistaken a shape or a shadow that I've seen a moose when it was just a blowdown or a stump. That is why you have to be sure of your target. Trigger edgy hunters are dangerous for that reason. Thanks for sharing.

Good Morning! Exactly right. Either sex, buck or doe type hunts can be bad that way. If the have to have antlers, it cuts down on that some.

We have not hardly seen the sun in about 2 and a half days here and it keeps "dandruffing" (very light snow) AND it is getting colder every day......We are at 16F this morning so far. Baker, MT was about 5 or 6F. I have a 2.5 cord firewood order to fill.......

I can believe that they really are moving through the forest like a ghost. I pondered on the armchair trapper who said that you are doing it wrong. Good Morning! Elk are big as a horse and you would think they would stand out, but they don't. They can be tough to hunt. That guy I think is just a miserable guy. He left insulting comments about the truck and snowdog too. Just a grumpy fella I think. Kind of feel sorry for folks like that, but I won't put up with it very long either.

I've been meaning to look into that more. It's a 4x, but I don't know what the percentage is, or if it has beaver or something else besides the buffalo? It seems to be a nice hat. I wonder how it will hold up? Be careful steaming the sweat band. This one shrunk some. It's in the "Stetson Buffalo Collection" I don't know much about it as far as if it was limited, or something they make all the time?

It sure did! Yeah, most of the Game Wardens here are pretty reasonable, but not all of them. It's easier to move a trap than go to court! A LOT less stressful too!

Me either! It's nice to be able to wait that long, but mostly I don't. Some of the wolf traps are far enough away that the gas adds up too fast, but I like to check every day, or every other day if I can.

if you feel confident enough to make 1 set it's probably good enough for 3 or 5. Back up sets with different appeal and smell like skunk .persimmon, pa pa . Fruit ain't very loud in the cold. But is different

True. This year has been kind of a different one, but most times, I'll set the same number of traps at each stop. Usually 3-4 traps. That way it's easier for me to remember just how many are there , but also since wolves are pack animals, I have a better chance of catching more than one.

It was butcher scraps. Too many small pieces for that. A road killed deer would have been easy to move.

@MuskratOutdoors I hear ya but be careful with using deer in Utah you can't and in Idaho or Wyoming you would probably need a.permit from a warden to move it from the road or you'll deal with the old how the hell do I know you didn't shoot it and put it there you know that drill .
