There is also a heart touching story Of the Ottoman Frigate "Ertuğrul" or "Erthogourl" as it was called in the past, from 1890. The Fleet was sent by sultan Abdulhamid II to Japan with, as I know ower 600 Crew members made of Sailors,Officers, a group (50 persons) of the ottoman imperial military band and islamic scholars. One part of the mission was, to spread the messege of islam to Japan and to represent the ottoman khalifate. During the voyage, they stoped in countries such asegypt, india, indonesia, china ect.(i2.wp.com/www.mehmetates.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/en-son.jpg?ssl=1) to pray the fridays prayer with locals and to make a few performances with the ottoman military band (they probably played the Sultans Hmyn Marche Ali Hamidi m.kzbin.info/www/bejne/moDVXq1_l9Wnr7M beside the marine marches) to represent the kalifate under Sultan Abdul Hamid Khan II). , unfortunateley the ship sunk during the return from japan while a taifun ragg , the explosion happened possibly because of a leck from a boiler and over 500 crewmembers died. The locals in Japan helped the injured ones, who left. Those who reached the japanese island where injured with broken limbs. According to newspapers from that time, Osman pasha, The admiral, sunk after a bar felt to his head, as he jumped out of the boad. There is also a turkish-japanese produced movie about this. Its called " Ertuğrul 1890. But unfotunateley the ottoman military band wasnt represented as it should be.

5.39 "at a time when few others were coming forward" do a better research lads Google British relief association for the Irish famine and see that the people of Britain were donating more than anyone else. From the bottom convicts in prison ships to the queen and the royal family British rail companies and steam ship companies also transported famine relief free of charge. The story of the Sultan offering to £10,000 but reducing it at the request of Victoria appeared in the 1880s the source was an Irish doctor who who said the British ambassador Had made the request on her behalf. The individual named as ambassador was never in Turkey in his life. As for the Turkey ships that's a complete fabrication as well dreamed up by the Irish leader Parnell on the fundraising tour of America in the 1880s. If you would care to check with the local museum three ships did come from Turkish territory but it was a purely commercial venture they had first tried to sell their cargoes in Ireland and Britain. They were bought by local merchants and put in store so it would not depress the local prices. For good measure they said that the Islamic crescent was incorporated in the town's coat of arms to commemorate the Turkish aid. The President of Ireland even said this on an official visit to Turkey. She had swallowed the Turkish ship's story whole as well she was a bit embarrassed when told that had been part of the town's crest awarded by King John in the 13th century. You can look that up on the Internet as well. If you want to check this out contact the Milmount Museum at Drogheda. When touring the United States Parnell also told them the queen had only donated £5 to famine relief the same amount she gave to a dog's home. In fact she headed two appeals giving £2000 each time and that was her own money any money what the sultan gave came from the state. This story was so widely believed in Ireland that despite every donation to famine relief being on record when her statues was removed in Dublin in the 1930s some gullible idiot actually turned up waving a £5 note at it. You pair are not much better if you don't believe me Google The Queen's £5 the strange tale of Turkish aid to Ireland in the great famine. @@davidpryle3935 why would anyone make up a story like this? To what benefit? To discredit the stingy queen who didn’t care/help her own?!
@davidpryle3935 Жыл бұрын
@@leventak911 Who knows! Irish nationalists perhaps. But I can assure you, it is made up. It’s less than 3 lifetimes ago since the Irish famine, so there should be plenty of evidence for it to be found, newspapers etc. Instead, when Irish national historians and local Drogheda historians looked into the story, they couldn’t find a shred of proof that it ever happened. Also the supposed thank you letter from the “Irish nobles” is very obviously phoney. Add to that the claim that the crest of Drogheda, the star and crescent was adopted as a tribute to the ottomans for their help during the famine. Anybody who knows the history of Drogheda, will know that the star and crescent became Drogheda’s crest when it was granted its Town charter by the English king, just back from the crusades, 600 years before the Irish famine.
@freebeerfordworkers9 ай бұрын
The Irish nationalists made it up on the fundraising tour of America in the 1880s obvious political reasons to discredit Britain. They told the most ferocious lies and they are is still believed to this day. The British people donated more to Irish famine relief than anyone and the Queen sponsored two appeals with £2000 of her own money each time. I posted a detailed rebuttal of this event to you 5 hours ago but they seem to have removed it maybe you'll see this one before they do@@leventak911

In fact, my best friends in America are Irish Americans. One of them, I called the prophet, is the nicest man on the planet. God bless the Irish. The English did so many good things, for example, they gave us Isaac Newton, but they did so many bad things too, and one of them is the mistreatment of their neighbors, the Irish. I hope one day, they will join and become one people.

This aid was provided by the Turks, not the Muslims. As a Turk, it pisses me off that every Muslim undertakes this aid without using the Turkish name.

Nah at that time Othman empire was Al Muslims country’s and they spoke Arabic so it even a Arabic empire when a country speaks Arabic we Arab se it as Arabic that’s why Kemal ata Turk made Turkish language because he did not want to be Arab
@SS-sp6yxАй бұрын
@@logicmonster9407No, not Arabic, but Ottoman Turkish was spoken. As a Turk, it hurts me that the Arabs think that the Ottoman Empire is their own state and that the Arab countries, which are the current enemies of Turkey, undertake the actions of the Ottoman Empire.

Don't disregard the valiant efforts of Quakers, Americans, and Native Americans, and other Europeans such as the Navajo in effort to maintain wokeness. I, for one have followed Irish history closely including the famine and have never heard about this.

The reason you never heard about it is because it never happened. Take everything you see on the internet with a large grain of salt.

@@davidpryle3935 I see you are trying hard but truth has little value against emotion. The way this fantasy has taken off will need a bulk carrier of salt.

@@freebeerfordworkers Indeed indeed. Even former president Mary McAleese regurgitated this myth on a state visit to Turkey in 2010. The president’s office had to issue a retraction, and admit the story was false, when local Drogheda historians who heard about her speech, told her she had been deceived, and that there had been no ottoman food ships in Drogheda. It hasn’t helped of course that local politician Frank Godfrey (never a man to miss a trick) had a plaque erected to commemorate this event, that never happened.

It wasn't the navajo it was the choctaw,you are confused understandably with the covid relief given to the navajo,but that was returning the favour to native americans not the navajo specifically

To give a more concrete sense of the impact £10,000 could have had during the Irish Potato Famine: 1. **Purchasing Power**: The value of money was much higher in the 1840s. £10,000 then could be roughly equivalent to around £790,000 today, considering a general estimate of inflation. 2. **Cost of Basic Necessities**: During the 1840s, the cost of basic goods, especially food, was significantly lower. This means the money would buy a much larger quantity of food and supplies. 3. **Population and Need**: The population of Ireland was around 8 million during the famine. With approximately a million people starving, a sum of £10,000 could provide direct assistance to a significant number of people, considering the cost of basic food items like grain. 4. **Relative Wealth**: In the context of the 1840s, £10,000 was a substantial amount, equivalent to the wealth of a well-off individual or family. This sum in a community or region could fund large-scale relief operations, like setting up soup kitchens, providing basic medical care, and purchasing food supplies. 5. **Economic Impact**: The injection of this amount into local economies for relief efforts could also have secondary benefits, like providing employment or supporting local farmers and suppliers. In summary, while it's challenging to quantify the exact impact in terms of the number of lives saved or people fed, it's clear that £10,000 during the Irish Potato Famine would have been a significant sum. It could provide substantial direct aid and have a noticeable positive impact on the relief efforts.

The Turkish contribution of £2k was 0.01% of the total spent on Irish famine relief.
