Marie your garden looks lovely as usual. Your are my inspiration everyday. The potatoes not sprouting isn't your fault, some of them are treated so they will last longer on the shelves. You can either change where you buy them or try soaking them in a baking soda solution to remove inhibitors.1tbps baking soda to 1 gallon water.

No you’re not silly. I always loved the rain as long as I can remember. It gives me a sense of security and sense of cozy especially when you have food 😃😃😃😃, but I now appreciate it on another level since I established my vegetable garden. I even pray for rain to come because it’s something about the rainwater. It’s as though the plants get a boost in growth after a rainfall aside from it just looking fresh! Not the same with regular water and I believe it’s because of too much chlorine in the water. Just an observation. Happy farming 😊😊😊😊

Marie try sectioning out the eyes instead of planting the whole potato and then put them on napkin and let them start to dry out for maybe a week, then plant them out . Water every 6 six days for at least 6 weeks and then every 2-3 days after the 6 wks. Potatoes like temp around 75F so keep a little shaded I think. I got success with growth this way but got no potatoes because African snails took them out, they never caught back themselves too much trama. And they like potassium, so I watered sometimes with banana skin water.

Hi Marie… the potatoes are dipped into a root inhibitor…. That help them to stay on grocery shelf longer. I have gotten potatoes to grow before but no tubers… anyway to begin give potatoes a good wash down ( I just use a little dish soap in my dish sponge) then leave potatoes until u can see that it is indeed growing and THEN plant. All the best ❤❤❤ Love your dancing in the rain! 😂

Your garden is looking lush and lovely. Strawberry tip - don't let the strawberry plants produce runners for a while, let the plants get strong enough to fruit ( usually a year here in the UK), and then let the runners grow after. Or keep a couple of plants just for runners if you want to increase your stock quickly. The average productive life of strawberry plants is about four years once they have strong and mature roots. You will never be without strawberries. I had to dig up my older plants a couple of weeks ago as they didn't produce last year, but I got lots of suckers from them first.

Marie, good morning! Susumba can be cooked with cod fish-that’s how most people cook it I guess to mask the bitterness- Lord I wish I had access to some right now. Years ago they confiscated a nice amount from me at the airport and left me with just the portion I had in a jar with water. I was mad because effort was made to get them from the bush. Anyway, I also cooked it with turn cornmeal and coconut milk just like making rice and peas. Also the juice of the susumba mixed with pineapple juice is excellent to build your blood by building your blood count. I learned that from a Ghanaian dietician who vouched for it and gets positive results every time for pregnant women who has issues with low count. Hope I shared something you (and others) will find helpful. Keep your farm kicking and may you always get a hundred fold return.

Try starting your potatoes out of the pots and let the eyes spring some more before planting. Then plant them half way in the pot with little soil. As they grow leaves and more, keep adding soil/mulch. The new potatoes will grow around up around the new roots and will need to be kept covered to mature properly, and not grow green. I grow my potatoes from chits, little pieces that have eyes, so usually get several plants from one potato. They may grow differently in Jamaica though.

Good morning and a blessed day to you! ❤ I am trying my hand at Irish potatoes this year. I planted 3 whole potatoes and am growing mine in a grow bag (hoping to give good air flow and keep the roots cool) in a mix of half sand half topsoil and am interested to see what the effect will be. Have you tried a crocus/feed bag? I don't know what's happening under the soil *twiddles thumbs nervously * but the plants are tall and strong with thick stems so I'm hoping for something at least to see if it works. I never looked up any videos on potato farming so never heard of the cement water or straw hacks so can't help there. I water mine regularly and extra if the leaves go a bit wilty. I sometimes wonder if I am watering too much, but then if I think about things it rains a lot in Ireland so... 🤣

Wonder if is GMO potatoes. Because over here most if not all white potatoes and all corn are GMO, just remember that. Don’t knock susumba, it has great benefits including the leaves for cold (I personally have used it for cold in the past while living in Jamaica) and incidentally the juice of the red leaves as well can be mixed with pineapple juice in the same way the juice of the susumba itself with the pineapple is powerful for the blood. In Ghana and some other parts of the world it is called turkey berry.
