The sugar paper under the Lebkuchen is called Oblate (plural Oblaten) They are like big communion wafers. This is a traditional preparation, which was started by monks in the Middle Ages. I had never heard of the Elisen Lebkuchen until I saw your video. Now I will have to try it. I would caution anyone who has celiac to double check that the Oblaten do not contain flour. I have a package of Lebkuchen that I just bought at Trader Joe’s. They are imported from Germany. The ingredients list on the package says that the Oblaten contain wheat flour.

Thank you for another great Christmas Market video! We just returned home to the US last week, the day before the snow in Munich. We watched your prior videos to plan our trip and loved the smaller markets, the Mittelalterlicher, Munich Freiheit and Haidhausen! The Salzburg Christmas Markets and Krampuslauf were wonderful too. Thanks for your help! Prost!

When you‘re in Hesse on a Christmas Market you often have a third option beside white or red Glühwein: Hot Apple cider (heißer Apfelwein) which is also awesome.

Nah, there are no authentic Christmas Markets in the U.S. You manage to take culture from another place...and then you fuck it up like everything else and americanize it... Were there HotDogs and Burgers available? Well, that's a big nonono.
@toniagrantham9532 жыл бұрын
@@Kivas_Fajo Funny, but no. I can see your point, but…there weren’t any hotdogs. There was however, wurst, roasted nuts, streudel, kinderpunsch, glühwein, just to name a few. About 60% of the vendors are from Germany. The food was a German-American fusion, but the mulled wine (Glühwein) was imported from Nuremberg. “The Christkindlmarket in Chicago was initially conceived as a way to promote German-American trade, according to organizers, although there are now vendors from all over the world.” It may not be located in Europe, but at least we can experience and enjoy a little taste.

I know we’ve seen and commented on this one before, but we’re doing a Christmas market food video hopefully next week and thought we’d watch the experts again to remind us how you did it. Love your videos!!! Hope you’re well and hope to get over there some time soon and grab another pint with you x

I really liked the cinematography you got in the snow! 😍 I wonder if those kind of Lebkuchen are really soft or sticky without the flour and that’s why they use the sugar paper and glaze to keep them from getting mushed or sticking together when stored/transported.
@NearFromHome2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! The snow was too beautiful not to film. That is a good point. The inside were not incredibly structurally sound, so the chocolate coating and paper would provide a lot of support.

Ah, we’ve got our coffee and ready to enjoy this one. First off, we love straight away that we know exactly where you are there at Isator. We follow Wonderlust for Life, good stuff. Woah, hang on a minute…white Gluhwein??? Is that even a thing??? Need to check that out, but can’t see how it would trump red wine. We will definitely be checking out your app before we come again….and we’re already talking about that. Ah, krampus…we’d love to have seen this, was this the day after we left? You’ve got some good mugs going on there but we like the ones we ended up with. Top marks for using German when you can! All that food…mmm, that beats the toast we’ve just had 😂. I think we’re enjoying the snow as much as you, the night after we saw you, the snow was really coming down when we went to Haidhauser, it really was incredible! Blimey, that’s a big sausage!! Well done Camille for finding the veggie option…so many options….well, two haha. That Lebkuchen looks mighty good!! If we would had another day, we’d have loved to have done the medieval market, we need one of those goblets. Loved it, top work both 🍻

Haven't been able to make it to the Medieval Xmas Market at Wittelsbacher Platz this year, the last time I went in 2019 I had the Glühwein "Hagen von Tronje" from the the same stall you had the Feuerzangenbowle. You definitely need to try one or two - you won't make it to #3... 🙄🙄

You guys should one day try some Glögg. We here on the Danish borderlands enjoy it at our markets. The wine shacks also have a little glass of almonds and a little glass of raisins and you add a few of those to the hot Glögg. Traditionally the raisins and almonds are cooked with the Glögg and both are stored for a year to mature.
@NearFromHome2 жыл бұрын
I have never heard of that, but I do love almonds and raisins! 🧐 We are already thinking about next year’s market videos, so we’ll have to try some markets near the border to try it!
