nah, Tung Po(electric street wet market) is still great. the people making the food is more important than eating car exhaust. and TBH, Sing Heung Yuen's milk tea isn't as good as what they used to make, and Ho Wah (the old side) on Mallory st is still better, and what's wrong with being indoors at Sun Heung Yuen(Kwelin street near Ap Liu street) for their eggs and corned beef sammies? but i do miss the old DPD at Ngau Tau Kok estates. it's good that they've congregated into the wet markets' restaurant levels. Electric Rd Wet Market(Claypot Indian), Java Rd. Wet Market(Tung Po), Bowrington St. Wet Market(Cart noodle place)... lots of good places to choose from... there's plenty of "vibes" at the pretentious outdoor places along the stone slabs at Nojo ramen or sit on the outdoor roof patio at Simply Thai in CWB. i'd rather not smell the BO mixed with overuse of deodorant while i eat crab curry or the drunk vomit smells during summer heat while slurping ramen.

This video brings back such nostalgia. I miss eating at the DPD's during the late 80s and early 90s, where the DPD staff would wash their dishes on the side of the streets. and then use them after to serve up their next customers. Definitely miss the golden days of Hong Kong.

Not sure. Never had a chance to visit and so I’m expressing an opinion. What I’ve seen, being outside is part of the ambiance or atmosphere of a Dai Pai Dong…sort of like the sidewalk tables at cafes around the world. If it were moved inside, as some have been, I think the vibe changes. Don’t know if anything is lost. My personal preference would be to sit outside and watch the neighborhood while I eat instead of being inside. Thanks for making and sharing great videos like this!

I've been visiting HK since I was a young boy starting 1979 and my relatives always brought me to the non frou frou places to eat. Well, they did a few times, but I always preferred the mid end ones. I remember we once had dinner at a two Michelin starred one and I said thank you for the dinner, but next time bring me to the other dai pai dongs that I have not tried. I Never liked the fancy ones as they do not represent HK cusine for me at all. Impress me with flavors. Not with how much you can spend.
