Affordable from a professional filmmakers perspective. Obviously its hard on KZbin for people to throw around that word because to some its a $500 Panasonic G7 is affordable 4K video camera. But the way they shoot is very "affordable". Most BTS I see them use the RED handled or on sticks (tripod). A lot of modern commercial companies are filming on Movi's attached to steadicam vests or Porsche camera cars and lenses that costs $80,000 each. Yes they have a expensive camera to the average person, KZbinr or beginner filmmaker but for them to own 1 or 2 REDs with Sigma and Canon glass is very affordable in comparison to production companies comparable in size.

@@initialfocus - yeah, as the video went on it became more apparent what exactly the intention was, but def had a shock factor initially. I wouldn't put it past them to have done so on purpose as a sort of troll if you will, open up with the nicest most blingy thing to elicit a reaction :) I'm sure there are many other vids that go over starting gear just fine but when I seen the title I was kinda hoping to get an experienced retrospective on maybe what they would do dif or did right, as I respect their opinions on such matters.

I want an alternate universe where you guys are Corridor Analogue. Shooting everything on film and doing all the vfx with optical compositing. Niko would be all like "The trick is not to develop the film just yet... We're actually gonna run another exposure through it." And I'd be like, mind blown.

Quoting Niko from the subreddit it's no the Chromebook thing "I want the video to be something informative that filmmakers can turn to for reference as to what gear to get in 2018, and the current editing style with the chromatic aberration and hyper editing didn’t really jive with that. Also, the piece could be trimmed down a lot more and could include more informative b-roll. In other words, it’s not ready for prime time yet. Just needs a bit more work and it’ll be live again. Oh, and the Origin comment will probably stay. That was fine. We had a lot of quality issues with their machines and felt it would be disingenuous to promote them as machines you can work on. They’ve been fine for gaming at Node. "

@@benaldrich9149 DSLR Video Shooter did a vid on it a year ago kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5SbfKSNZbaWgpY But if you're willing to spend an extra few hundred dollars, I'd opt for one of the more modern EF-M series cameras. I upgraded to the M6 (average retail price between $600-$700), and tbh I actually enjoy using it more than my DSLR. The flip-screen, the 60fps video, and just generally how much more compact it is. Its so much more enjoyable to use and carry around.

Get a Canon M50 as a beginner and a decent lens set try to keep the F stop no more than f/2.8 (sometimes you can’t but try to). Film Riot made a great DIY dual shoulder mount I’ve personally used, I actually just saw a guy today make a light for $40 . No electrical work required . It was comparable to his $1000 light set up . All that will probably land you in the $1000-$1200 range but it’s about the same price as just a black magic pocket so I’d say it’s a great deal .

Is this a serious question or a trolling attempt? Sam: "Why would you use cables ever again?" Niko: "Well, cables are super reliable." This is right in the middle of them glorifying their wireless equipement, as in "wireless is so great, why would i want to use cables". So the only thing cables could eventually be better, in their opinion, is that they are more reliable. But they use wireless anyway, in all their videos, with all this high-end stuff (red camera brain 25k$), because it's reliable enough.

@shaid1111

This is the struggle right. You gotta catch up to the expectations of the audience, and your peers. Or get really good at doing still shots, which is fucking hard when you're starting out and can't get good and dynamic actors or prod design. Gimbles, good lenses and get good. That is the motto people should work for these days. You do not need a red, but you need something that can rock great lenses. The rest you'll get in time, anyway it is expensive starting out.
@cinemaforce7140

A nice way to show off a lot of expensive gear as well as making new/aspiring "filmmakers" think you need this gear to start making films. The only thing you need is a good idea, some time, a camera, a way to record decent audio, a way to light your scenes and possible a small crew consisting of friends. Hitfilm makes free software for editing, and davinci resolve is also free, although it may be slightly overwhelming to get into as a first editing software. I wouldn't know if they brought this up in the video because i didn't watch past the eight minute mark.

One of them want to do it on analogue film settings and equips and the others want to do it all digital. Battle ensures as they start doing each scene and battle to get the best shot and then shot by shot they use both thigns and get to be best friends uniting the world in a analigital love

The stuff we used was quite expensive...thankfully we got a good part of it free, even some prototypes (Sachtler flowtech 100) to test, with all of the equipment being at around 75,000$ combined. Agree with the Sigma lenses, we didn't use Art lenses but the set of 7 Prime Cine lenses, also agree on the Aputure 120D, we used two of the mark 2 ones :) They were hotter than we thought though...burned right through the color filter in seconds xD We're starting with post-production soon and man my PC is probably going to suffer with all the VFX work I have to do with the 4.6k footage :/

When filming vlogs (or whatever you call what cmike is doing here), have you ever encountered the problem that the on-camera microphone is picking up the noise from the autofocus of the lens? Hey guys, I just wanna point out that the Senheiser g3 series wireless will technically be illegal to use because it can reach in to the 600MHz band which was sold to T-Mobile (after a 2 year grace period with restrictions). I work for an A/V production company and we had to rebate around $20k of our Shure UHF-R wireless because it was in the 600 band, and our Senheiser g3 wireless we still use but are careful to make sure we dont go in to the 600MHz range.
