Along with a card holder I use two battery holders. I got a set that had the logo in white. I colored one logo with green sharpie and one with a red sharpie. Charged batteries go in the green one, used batteries go in the red one. Gives me something similar to your card holder trick but with my batteries.

I think "Must haves for beginners" really depends on what you want to shoot. If you are inclined towards portraits, you'd sooner go for a 50mm prime and a flash/reflector If you are more towards sports it would sooner be a tele lens If you are more towards landscapes it would be a tripod etc

Oh, thanks a lot for the new video! I don’t know if you’ll ever see this comment, but I’m so soooo thankful for your videos. To be honest, they kinda saved me. I can’t describe how many nights I’ve spent in my room processing raw images in lightroom and feeling really lonely, but thanks to you it has changed. I rewatched most of your videos, like, 10 times and I often listen to them while editing photos (for some reason it really comforts me and I feel less lonely/helpless). I know it probably sounds too sentimental, but I hope you don’t mind it. So, thanks again, Jessica! I really appreciate your hard work and effort

You dont need most of these props as a beginner. When you're starting out the main thing is learning about photography and how to create good images. Once you've done that then you can start adding other tools to up your game or to join a niche. All you need is a camera body, a decent lens (maybe a prime and a cheap zoom so you can learn different focal lengths and apertures) a second battery and an sd card.

When cleaning your lenses do NOT use the liquid cleaners! They break down the adveshives that help hold the glass in place on your expensive lens. If you need moisture just breath on lens than wipe with lense cloth.

Cool list! There's some stuff othere I hadn't considered before, but will probably look into down the line. Personally, I would have put good quality SD cards as number one on the list, but maybe that's just kind of assumed? I thought it's worth mentioning regardless. If your card is unreliable, it doesn't matter how good your shots are. So don't cheap out, and always keep some backups! Keep one in the glove box, one in the trunk, one in your pocket, and one (or two) in your camera. As for filters, I would just suggest that if your photos aren't looking great afterwards, consider the quality of the filter that you put on. If you've got a 3k$ lens covered by a 25$ ND filter, your results are probably not going to look as good as they could. Filters are also another thing you're going to have to clean regularly, so if you're using them for a paid gig, keep it on your cleaning rotation. Filters can help for the right situation, but keep in mind the issues they can add, too. Whenever I use one, I try to take at least as many shots without it, so I have a "clean" backup.

Those reflectors, you have to hold them on each side and then twist. Try one of those 150x200cm foldable backgrounds, it's a proper workout the first few times... Also if anyone is looking for a cheap flash, I personally have the Godox TT600 (manual flash) and have the X1T-C (for Canon) to be able to use the flash off-camera. Had no issues with it, so would recommend.

Any of the Canon rebel series cameras are affordable and great for learning! For landscape your lens will be the most important thing. Stick to wide lenses to get the most in the photo 😉

I used a Rebel T3i when I was learning years ago but I think the equivalent to that, in a newer version, wouls be a rebel t6i or T7i. Just skip the bundles and get just the camera body and scoop a 50mm 1.8 lens for around $100 to use. The kit lenses are never really as good as a prime lens. Good luck!

Still can't shoot because you forgot to include a SD card! I wonder how many people forget about that when ordering their first camera online. :) Some of the recommendations depend on style and individual needs though... I bought too many "must haves" in the beginning and much collects dust. Like a flash... I don't need one. Or foldable reflectors - used them for a week, never again, but they're so cheap it doesn't hurt to have them I guess. :D But I immediately bought some of those super cheap continous lights and softboxes on amazon, those KZbinr basics for like $20-40 - cheap and fantastic for indoor portraits. Or a $20 on-camera LED, much cheaper than a flash and might work for you too. Otherwise, if you're going mirrorless... lens adapters! Try some M42, Pentax or Canon FD lenses from ebay and flea markets, some might become your favourite portrait lenses. :) And yes, a SD card would help... maybe even a few. :)

Love this. I’ve had a nice Olympus camera for a while now. Just wondering ... maybe a stupid question but, why do I need so many cards? I have a 16G card. Is that not big enough? I love taking pictures. Maybe I just don’t take a lot. It’s a fun hobby instead of a profession. Thanks for all your tips. They’re GREAT!
@cornchips0072 жыл бұрын
That's an incredibly small card... And when they fail you want to be sure you have a backup. The camera she's using in the video allows you to save to 2 cards at the same time so that you can save to both and not lose your images if one fails.

I love my lens cleaning kit as well... been using it for god knows how many years. It's called microfiber cloth or sometimes T-Shirt. Fun fact: front element of the lens does not affect image quality as much. I mean if it's loaded with vaseline then yeah image is going to be blurry, but for example if you have front element completely cracked in multiple places - image is going to be fine (if you're focusing further than 1 meter). Same goes for minimal smudges, scratches, dust and water droplets. Now I'm not saying that yall lenses can be dirty, you're not animals, keep your gear clean, but if there's any beginners reading this - I wouldn't recommend wasting money and polluting earth with those one time wipes and any sort of lens cleaning solutions. Get microfiber cloth it will clean your lenses for years.
@PaganiTypeR4 жыл бұрын
lol talks how image quality is important and how you need to take care of your gear, then adds chinese plastic s**t in front of the lens. I love you Jessica, but damn... A lot of these things is just fallen off trends from IG. Again if there's any beginners reading this. Play along with these trends for a bit, but at some point you gotta ask yourself what makes you - you. Certainly not copying, certainly not the trends that every single amateur photographer is doing on instagram (and beating them to death in the process).
