Can you believe how many functions mitochondria are responsible for? Which one surprised you most?

Well, for one, when PBM NIR on a small part of the back, apparently biochemistry of mitochondria respond too!?!

Bravo, great approach to clarification of complexities of chronic disease understanding!! IMHO. I had my mind expanded wildly by YT videos of imagery of mitochondria moving around the cells, appearing to be so dynamic and communicative with each other and with signaling at much greater distances in the body. Emerging science of bacterial 'quorum-sensing' has grabbed me by elevating awareness: as in MERSA being able to sense their population density getting to the point where they could have enough bioenergetic cost/benefit ability to make toxin production collectively sufficiently to affect the host. And, there are ways seen now to disrupt this communication toward helping to protect the host better.

I grow European sweet chestnuts, whose leaves have long been used in southern Italy to dress wounds to stop some bacterial tissue damage such as with MERSA.

Increasing potential to see where in the system that toxicants can be harming flow of energy is very encouraging! Toxic metal lead is particularly of interest to me, just where it has adverse effects.

Yes Ray I can tell heavy metal toxicity interests you. Jack Kruse always says Redox before Detox. I argue for both since heavy metals can have such a profound effect on creating mitochondrial dysfunction.

@@DrCaseyPeavler yes, and the commonly used term 'detox' as treatment usually makes me cringe, thinking we probably are rolling the dice because we just don't know enough of feedback loops and physiologic pathways that we are affecting. Sometimes, we might have a lucky roll that would help, but such chance of unknown additional changes.

I think when most integrative and functional doctors talk about detox, I think they are talking about science based excretion pathways, but yes the word detox has been overused and misused a lot.

@@DrCaseyPeavler Yes, I read lot of Pb tax lit. I started looking in water quality of salmon streams in PNW, for the heavy pollution of Pb. Now, fascinated with physiologic pathways in humans.

@@DrCaseyPeavler Hmmmm, a lot more reason NIR to mitochondria, increasing melatonin content, could be preventing per oxidative damage from excess ROS buildup? Melatonin help for low glutathione? But, in a tumor cell, if more ROS can help degrade that environment, NIR not so helpful toward shrinking tumor? Such research above, done under 'blue light' environment? That must not help understanding more just how real life daylight environment differs, But, could help clarify if you remained aware of those differences.

Melatonin and Vitamin D are the answers, they both active the antioxidant response element which up-regulates ALL endogenous antioxidants, melatonin acts as a super antioxidant, plus regulates autophagy and shuts down warburg effect
