Incredibly well done and informative. It’s just the information I was looking for. I can’t imagine how many hours this must have taken you two. Another criteria many of us look for is how noisy the streets are during the day, but especially at night, for sleeping.

@TravelsInSpace2 жыл бұрын
@@drperfect07 Algés is a bit further out so you will definitely need to rely on mass transit to get into a lot of the areas in the city center. Other than that, the area is fairly chill and pretty local, should also be a bit cheaper.

For me, a local, I find your perceptions very acute and accurate. However, some your borders are a little sketchy. We don't consider Estrela as part of Principe Real (Rua de S. Bento is the western border) You should do Campo de Ourique, Campolide, Avenidas Novas, Alvalade and Marvila. The next circle, a little out from the centre.
@TravelsInSpace2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestions! When we circle back to Lisbon we will definitely check those areas out. And yeah, the map borders are a bit ambiguous since we weren't 100% sure where the exact lines were.

Hi I’m goin to Lisbon in June staying in Santos, how would you compare Santos to the other districts..is there a metro in Santos?
@eacreal2 жыл бұрын
@@johnf1059 Santos is now a vibrant area populated by a lot of expats. Impeccable alternative taste mixed with old local vibe. Once the 'Lisbon Design District' it is now an interesting indy zone. The epicenter is the road crossing between Rua de S. Bento and Calçada da Estrela.. The closest Metro station is Cais de Sodré, a flat 10 min walk from Santos centre.

Important addition to Alfama: if you're a light sleeper, forget about it. It's a very noisy neighborhood (and the narrow alleyways and streets don't help, acoustically), and will remain so until well into the night.

Unfortunately we won't be back for a bit, we are making our way east (in Croatia at the moment), BUT - I can heartily recommend the V Rooftop Bar in Principe Real - it is a little pricey but the views, and the cocktails, are amazing. For a non-rooftop bar, our favorite was Boutique Taberna in Alfama - it is tiny, has a smaller selection, and a more local flair but has lovely staff and has seating in a large stairwell in the heart of Alfama, really cool atmosphere.

@TravelsInSpace2 жыл бұрын
@@trishcaron8615 I do! First area is a little farther from the old town/downtown but still within walking distance: the neighborhood around Monumento aos Heróis da Guerra Peninsular. Super chill, very local, very safe. Second area is directly in downtown, still very safe, but has a lot more energy (and a little more expensive): neighborhood around the Igreja do Carmo. This would be my preferred location as it is in the centre of everything.

Definitely buy a local sim card - MEO or Vodafone are two good carrier choices. You can use the data (which will be substantial IE: 20 or 30 gigs) to make WhatsApp calls - in fact, most of Europe uses WhatsApp pretty regularly from what we can tell.

@@TravelsInSpace Oh I see, as to the balance that can be a matter of mind, where you aren't going to please everyone. For me I like to concentrate on what's been said and shown, to move into the that space, so for me, often, the background music is intrusive.
