Great guide, particularly point number 1, I see too many people plan a whistle stop tour of Portugal but only allow a day or two in Lisbon. I will be back for my third visit Next month. I don't recommend tourists catch the tram 28 at all though, its overcrowded and it does stop locals from being able to use it. There are a couple of other historic trams on quieter routes, we caught one from Ajuda Palace to Cais do Sodre.
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal3 ай бұрын
Thank you, Aly. Tram 28 used to be a pleasure to ride, but it is no longer the case. Still, we think its ride through Alfama is unparalleled. On our video on public transport in Lisbon we point out other tram lines worth exploring.

@@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal we actually had to get out and walk at Alfama when we caught the 28 on our first visit, due to a car blocking the tram route! But I agree, it is a beautiful sight going through the narrow streets in that area.

😄 Hola Tony! I very much enjoy your Road Trip videos. 😍 I have a question about the couverts at mealtime. I understand about the "if you touch it or partake in it, you have to pay for it", but, in the case of cheeses that can be served, if they are individually wrapped, can you take some of the cheese and pay for only what you eat or do you get charged the full price for the cheese? I your video here you show a plate with 4 cheeses on it. If I took two, do I only get charged for two? Or does it vary from restaurant to restaurant? Thank you for these videos, they are very helpful and I LOVE your enthusiasm for travel in Spain and Portugal.🛬🚊🚞
@ROADTRIPSpainandPortugal8 ай бұрын
Hola! That is a very good question! Cheese are priced individually, so you should only be charged for the ones you eat. To make that very clear, we suggest you put aside, in a corner of the table, the cheeses you will not be eating. All the best to you!

Love the Public Transport video, but the thing I struggle with that you didn't address is trying ti figure out which side of the Metro platform I need to be on for the direction I want to go and then which exit to take out of the station. For instance, the end of the red line will let you out in a mall when you expect to get out on a corner a couple from the museum's. Looking forward to my 3rd trip to Lisbon soon and hoping I can figure it out this time!

thank you. finally someone tells the truth about the timeout market. i have been there once to eat like in 2015 and only because a friend of my girlfriend was here on vacations and she wanted to go there. besides that, only to get pasteis de nata or a ginjinha, since sometimes the timeout market was on my way home. before time out bought the place, i had been to mercado da ribeira like two times - on a university dinner, and on a university party. but the market was closed at night, only with one restaurant open and the possibility of making parties there. so i remember perfectly to arrive at like 8 at night with the market closed, no lights and only an open corridor and a stairs to the restaurant. jesus in those days never i believed how many people would flock into it. but anyway i dont know anyone who goes there now, and its hard to find friends who have been there. too crowded, too noisy, too expensive and you are not even comfortable to eat. cais do sodre now a days is a place to avoid, except at night. there is still a cafe that sells beer for like 1.20 euros and has cheap meals in front of the square, but im sure it will close eventually for a fancy brunch place or another mexican/peruvian restaurant. but yeah i understand why mercado da ribeira is a hit with its new name, but its almost like eating at a fancy airport with more refined portuguese food.

I have a question, that I’m finding it hard to get an answer to. I arrived in Spain today from Australia, and will soon be travelling to Porto, Ericeira and Lisbon. I can’t find the best way for me to travel from Porto to Ericeira. I have read that I should get a train to Lisbon, then a bus back to Ericeira, but the bus company selling tickets says that the trip will take 2 hours from Alison to Ericeira, though I was under the impression it should only take about 30 minutes. I really do t know how im going to make this work??

Bus from Porto to Lisbon. Then bus from Lisbon's Campo Grande coach station to Ericeira, a trip lasting 1 hour 10 minutes.

Why not just take the metro from the airport into town? It's easy and the least expensive option. There is much good info in this video, but there' s more to learn. The Lisboa Card is a good value only if you pack in the sights, and organize your days (and routes) well and clearly in advance so you can get the maximum value from it. Many great venues are excluded from the card or closed for restoration. Do your research before you purchase the card. It's possible to visit the same places cheaper and at the exact pace you prefer. Don't wait for Tram 28. Just walk the path it takes and see many interesting places on the way.

About point number 13, law indicates that if you did not ask for starters, even if you eat them you don't have to pay. The waiter must ask you when he places the starters if you want them. If he didn't... then you don't pay! Call police if necessary. Usually the restaurant wants to avoid police problems and removes the starters from the bill. It's about time that restaurants STOP using this scam to charge more.

Thank you for the information! Confronting the restaurant staff and calling the police is not always an easy option, so for those unwilling to go that route, the best advice is not to touch the couvert.

I think Lisboa Card is not worth 23 euro, unless you are going to see a lot of museums in 1 day. So for most people it is better not to buy it.

😆 Americans will for sure eat the “free” bread and then get mad when they learn they have to pay. This is a good video, I knew I’d mess up somewhere when I go there.

Literaly wouldn't spend more than 3 days in Lisbon. Only the Quinta de Regaleira in SIntra is worth the visit, the Belem tower is not worth the tour and the rest you can see/do/visit in a day and a half. Get yourself to Porto.
