Mustang Autocross Tips: How to Attack the Course in Your Warhorse

This was a good break down of a run. The instructor that road with me Saturday told me not to brake around a turn like you mentioned in the video.

Thanks for subscribing! The more you autocross, the more comfortable you'll get with the timing of your inputs. Ideally, you always want to separate your inputs so you aren't asking the car to do two things at once. Timing your braking, turning and accelerating is the key. Keep bringing that car to events and keep getting instruction and you'll be amazed at how fast you (and the car) can be!

@@warhorseracing When that guy told me brake in a straight line, I almost did not believe him. It is good to hear you are giving the same advice. I'll definitely keep that in mind at the next event. I think that is good advice. Then another everyone at the event said was keep it tight, which I believe you said too in a video. I also remember you said slow in fast out. These are the 3 things I am going to work on at my next event.

@@TractorTech When you're on course, imagine that your pedals and steering wheel are tied together with string. As you turn the wheel, you have to lift off the pedal (gas or brake). When the wheel is straight, you can apply more gas or brake. You never want to be at full steering lock with the gas or brake pedal to the floor. It's nearly impossible for a car to respond to both of those inputs at the same time. Staying tight essentially shortens the course, and is the general rule most of the time. In some elements, a wider line works better. Identifying which elements are slow in/fast out will help with your attack strategy. The trick to autocross is turning these techniques into instincts. It's also the fun part!
