nice job on the rivnuts and locating the mirrors correctly on the door. Seen plenty of them on cars mounted in the wrong location and they stand out like a sore thumb.

Barry nice to rivnut tool package. The rivnuts will adapt to different thickness. At work we used 1/4-20 and 5/16-18 through 1/8 aluminum. The shop had the guns. In the field some times you had to modify things to fit 🤷‍♂️. If you don’t have gun or you need to install a rivnut of a size not in kit. All you need is like 2” bolt to fit threads your working with a nut and flat washer. But nut on bolt than washer and thread into rivnut. Hold bolt turn nut clockwise till rivnut is secured 😄

Dang it, I didn’t test fit my door latch assembly. Hopefully I will get lucky and they will fit! 😮 I haven’t taken them out of the original doors yet

Looks great. Smaller pliers look like a good thing. I did rivnuts on passenger door mirror, added some epoxy on the outside of the rivnut on installation to keep water out of the interface. Seems a long term good idea.

The change from glue-in glass to bolt-in glass occurred during the ‘70 model year production. All ‘69’s and early 70 builds have glue in glass. My ‘70 coupe was built at Metuchen in October ‘69 has glue-in glass.

A friend of mine worked on the assembly at the ford plant and he helped build these cars. He gave me that information. Wonder if it was based on different assembly plants.

Just be careful in who makes the rivnuts I had some from overseas that had bad threads /cracked when installing them .! Cheap medal ! Awesome video 👍🏻

Only thing with the small rivnut tool is that trying to use them with stainless rivnuts can be difficult.

Hi Barry forgot to mention this , you more in likely know this that the screws for the mirrors had a red wax product on them to protect the screws from rusting/ water from getting the doors 👍🏻

Great work, sometimes it is better to get a new panel . So much rust . The door has as much rust on the inside all hidden .

If you get lucky, and there is steel left, get in there scrape it out, rusty metal prime everything that doesn't move!!!
