my 66 mustang was already repainted, it looked great without the chrome, my wife kept on bugging me to put the chrome on. i ordered a set and installed them..the drivers sides was a little rough, the passenger side was a no go. ended up bending the chrome. reordered new drip rail chrome.. this time i sanded the clearcoat off..it went on easy this time..also make sure you have someone to hold that chrome..i didn't, i had plenty of tape and patients..good luck.

I shaved the driprails and filled the cowl panel on my wifes 66 and it looks great. I did leave the "bodyline" by the driprail so it still has an appearance of being there.

Thanks for this "how to", i've added a little chrome on my '68 Mustang, she didn't have any rail molding... until today ! Merci pour ce "how to", j'ai ajouté du chrome à ma Mustang de 68, elle n'avait pas de "rail molding" (gouttière de toit ?)... jusqu'à aujourd'hui !

The 3M strip isn't what we use for seam sealer. I'll get you a part # for what we use. I strip all the old seam sealer out, then reprimer before running new sealer.You also want to do the seam sealer right before you are ready to paint and seal over it. If you put several coats of primer over it first it will crack.

It will work for all Mustangs, and anything the bottle opener will fit.

Do you recommend installing the drip rail channels (window seal around top of window) first before installing the drip rail moldings? Just to let anyone interested or in need of, I restore all the moldings on the 70 Mustangs, including the rocker moldings for the 1970 Mach 1's. Thanks, Chris

I'm not sure what the sausage pack is. Original parts group carries a 3m strip-calk in a box that's black, comes in 1 ft. lengths(20 yards total) and is paintable. Is that what you're talking about? Also, after taking the old stuff out, should the new be put directly over bare metal, or prime the metal, put new calking in, then prime and paint over that? Thanx for the help.

3M part # 08370, you can smooth it down with low odor mineral spirits.

I use the 3M sausage pack. Stay away from the 2 part ones, they set up way to fast. Fusor 700 EZ is another brand that just uses a regular caulking gun.

@nickt916 When you use a modern air system they give you caps to block off your fresh air vents, so the louvers are useless. Rich.

Fear, When you say that you send the originals out for repair/resto, what exactly do they do to them to bring them back to perfect? Can you tell me who you use?

Jim, we now just use the new ones from Dynacorn, they fit great and are cheaper than having the old ones polished.
