I’ve been doing automotive glazing for over 30 years and have never seen the rope ran thru a urethane nozzle. Brilliant simple tip. Goes to show you can teach an old dog new tricks!!

I call it my rope a dope trick 😂

I did it for a short time in the early 80's we never put a sealer in.

I used this video to do my front and rear glass in my 67 fastback. I did it without any help. The rope worked perfect!!!

@@MustangstoFear BTW. I will be contacting you soon for the headliner. My buddy has a 67 cougar. Do you make a headliner kit for those cars now?

Sweet, love my fastback, makes me want to take the glass out, and do it again. I can see how the trim clips I can be difficult, however I don't remember having a issue on my 65.

I put the sealer on the outside edge, if you put it up any closer to the rope, it will get really messy. Plus we put another bead on the pinchweld.

The slapping is what makes the windshield go in easier, it helps to roll the lip of the gasket in.
@MustangstoFear12 жыл бұрын
We use urethane in the gasket because it will never leak. Even all late model vehicles such as semi's are all sealed with urethane. I don't know of any professional glass shop that would seal a gasket set with liquid butyl. I remember back in the early 80's when Windshields America got sued because a 1987 Chev P.U. windshield was installed with black silicone instead of the urethane that the factory used.

That pull handle would come in handy. :-)

What size rope? Did the factory use any sealer? I have done a few mopars and Mack trucks with the same type gaskets and they didn't use sealer?
@cdscott11 жыл бұрын
I truly appreciate this video. I have been putting off the windshield install for a long time because I have heard it is a nightmare. I am far less worried now. I do wonder what the "slapping" is trying to accomplish? Will it become clear as I go? It is difficult to tell from the video what the slapping is actually achieving. Can you elaborate?

About the best yet a fitting an indirect glaze but I would only apply sealant to the rubber but with a wider, flatter bead and you didn't "settle" the glass at the end.
@hotrodmtf10 жыл бұрын
The glass was already seated in, and a big tip would only make more of a mess.

sealer on body is more then enough/ try to clean that 3m sealer off a light headliner good luck, and little lube [go jo\ on gasket helps alot

Mineral spirits will clean anything.

I would have thought that rope would have been full of caulk when you pulled it out.
@RS-gh2mf Жыл бұрын
It sure does, but I put it in a bucket of mineral spirits and let it soak until I'm ready for it again.
@shelbydave540410 жыл бұрын
Hi great video thanks for your work. Just curious what cleaner or solvent you use to clean up the excess 3M sealer on the car once the initial install is completed that doesn't harm the paint (newer). Thanks. Dave
@hotrodmtf10 жыл бұрын
Mineral spirits is what we use. It will never harm a fresh paint job.

Great video... will one 3m 8509 do both front and back windshields?
@hotrodmtf4 жыл бұрын
Yes
@antonhedrick51543 жыл бұрын
At around 4:00 minutes...you put the sealant on the rubber. Is there a reason why you put it on the rubber vice putting it on the car over the clips and then set the windshield in place?
@brianok65mustang2610 жыл бұрын
Where can you buy this kit?
@dougitout232611 жыл бұрын
I can't see it well enough-- you're saying to run the 8509 in front of the rope, but I'm not seeing much goop on the rope as you pull it out. Where exactly is the 8509 going in/on the gasket? The lip which is pulled out by the rope is what folds out around the welding seem and has the 8509 in there, isn't it?
@arcorob6 жыл бұрын
Hello..could not quite make it out but he 3M sealer you used at first, did you put that in the SAME channel as the rope? It was a bit unclear..thanks !
@MustangstoFear6 жыл бұрын
Yes it is.
@arcorob6 жыл бұрын
wow..so when you pull the rope to get the seal over the rim, doesn't it make a mess inside the car ? Just trying to be sure as I think you have the best method I have seen - very detailed.
@MustangstoFear6 жыл бұрын
Hard to get around not making a mess if you don't want it to leak.
@RichardAC593 жыл бұрын
How do you get your headliner under the weather-stripping tight enough, to remove wrinkles, if you put the glass in first - Unlike the factory did?
@RS-gh2mf2 жыл бұрын
Your headliner should be wrapped around to the pinchweld and glued down solid, just like the factory did. Michele and I sold MTF in August of 2020, we started a new company called Patriot Classic 4x4, we do 66-77 Bronco's.
@callofgeorge11 жыл бұрын
i'd probably go with the one piece headliner, if it only came in carbon fiber options.. even if its just vinyl covered..
@cturboaddict4 жыл бұрын
Is this the same for a 66? Caulking wise? Other vids I've seen said use strip caulk, then caulk afterwards.
@MustangstoFear4 жыл бұрын
You can use whatever caulk you want. This is 1965 to 68.
@cturboaddict4 жыл бұрын
@@MustangstoFear I just meant: you specifically bed the seal in sealant (noted as non urethane only). Just wanted to make sure it was appropriate for a 66. Which it is. Thanks

Didn’t you forget to install the headliner first?
@RS-gh2mf2 жыл бұрын
If you were installing the one piece headliner I developed, it doesn't make any difference. If you're installing a factory headliner, then yes It would need to be installed first.
