Mustang Ecoboost APIM Module Replacement! - SYNC 3 Works Again!

In This video I replace the bad APIM module in my 2018 Mustang Ecoboost. The radio stopped working and the screen went completely black. This lead me to believe the Brains of sync 3 was dead. I install the new module and regain the use of my radio! If your having the same issue watch to find out how to fix it!
I purchased this unit from a company on Ebay called simplymichigan. Their stock changes often but typically have stock.

Worked great for me. I’m a car noob and you simplified it perfectly. Only thing is I didn’t have to take off the panel where my ebrake and transmission are. I was able to slide up the panel in front of my Sync 3 just enough to unscrew everything and replace the APIM. 👍🏼

I had the same problem on my mustang gt and I replaced that part and it worked. Dealer was gonna charge me $1200 to change the whole radio system.

Thanks man, your video made it possible. For anyone who just wants to change the APIM Module, you don’t have to remove the screws in the coin tray, there is a plastic sleeve covering in between the smoke plug and the usb. Removing them will expose the bottom screws of the front panel and for the rest follow the video.

Didn't realize you would have to pull apart half of the interior to get to the module - what a pain in the a**! Sound deadening material works best if you can apply it to the floor (or in your case the drive shaft tunnel). I did that in the trunk of my mustang after putting on Flowmaster American Thunder axlebacks on - keeps the noise outside. Great video!

It’s Crazy how many of these are going out! Mine is out also. You would think something FORD or SYNC would be looking into. I had little glitches from the beginning and I had 3 miles on my car when I got it . Took 3 years go completely black

Just an FYI, you don’t need to remove/slide back the console to replace the APIM if that’s all you’re doing. Remove the $.02 tray and you can access the bottom screws from there with console still intact.

I was gonna take it to the dealership but then saw ur vid. I went on eBay purchase the APIM as u stated in ur vid swapped it and works perfect now! I actually have the same issue. I took it to the dealer and they told me they can only order a new radio for me for 1200 $ and i obviously said no. If you could provide where you exactly got the apim module it would be helpful!

I’m having the same issue “black screen”, pretty much troubleshooted what i could, you mentioned a dealership price, did you take it in for diagnosing and found it was the apim or is it just a known common problem and should be replaced, I think I’m on week 2 now of no radio and i want to drive off a bridge already lol, i like the video you made and look forward to using it to replace the apim if thats my issue. Hey Troy, bummer your having a similar issue. No I did not take it to the dealer, I just did some online research within forms and FB pages and a lot of arrows were pointing to the APIM. Mines as well been without mine for almost 2 years I can hear music but only can charge my phone through the console but my screen is black bought a knew radio it didn’t solve anything I’m most definitely about to replace the module ford won’t do anything about it without trying to charge an arm and a leg! Hey thanks!! Yes the unit I got was a sync 3 apim. If you have a 2018 mustang as well you are going to want a sync 3 apim. Sync 2 is for 15-17.

Hey! Sorry to hear that! Honestly I took an educated guess as for me the radio started failing slowly. It’s really only the APIM module (the brain) and the screen that makes up the radio. I would guess it the module I unfortunately.

Hey! You do not need to remove the center council but you do need to pop it loose and pull back on it in order to get the faceplate off. Other than that yeah all the other stuff needs to be removed just like in the video. Your welcome!

I’m pretty sure you can buy one with navigation in it and install no problem. They are a bit more expensive but should work! I would double check with the seller to be safe.

eveytime I connect my phone for carplay it always ask me for permission to connect the iPhone but any other iPhone it won't connect. but no black screens as of now. wud that still be the APIM?

It started where it took like 6 min for it to turn on and when it did it was super laggy. Then a few days later the screen turned black and wouldn’t come on, but the radio worked. Then Radio stopped working entirely. So it was a progression. A seller called simplymichigan on eBay sells good units. They will program to your Vin. Hope that helps!

I don’t have a link but the company I bought from is on Ebay, seller is simplymichigan. They typically have a few options, some with Nav and without. They will program to your Vin as well for free. Hope that helps!
