@@bobbo2576 for these specific BBK ones no, and In a pinch you could use rtv as a gasket but I would def not recommend as its likely to blow out or melt causing another leak.

good video. u don’t need to drop the k member u dont want to but it did make it easier. also soak all the hardware a few days in advance with penetrating oil. i did long tubes on both a gt and terminator by losing both motor mounts and transmission mount. tilt engine in bay and do one side at a time. also the bbk gaskets aren’t that great. if u want to not worry about leaks, use copper gasket.

Wow! You started and you finished? Great job, one of the few header install videos that actually has part 1 and a part 2.. I’ve seen a lot of starting this job but then no finish videos. I have long tubes on my Cobra went through a clutch replacement and at a separate time transmission replacement both those times working on it was a PAIN!!!! because of the LT’s so great choice on the shorty’s 👍🏽

I read many of those same horror stories on the forums which was a big decision on the shorty’s! I dropped the tranny & did a clutch, light weight flywheel, fork, pivot stud back in August 19’ so I’m hoping I dont have to drop it for a long time 😅

What collector studs did you use on the passenger side? I bought a used set of BBK shorties that didn’t include collector studs. Installed the headers and bought the BBK1571 collector studs kit and they do not fit. Not sure what size I need

Awesome vid thank you! I’m starting my BBK longtube headers install this weekend. Quick question, I got my Jegs engine support bar hooked up right now but where do I hook up the chains on the engine block. I put a bolt into an empty spot on the heads on the passenger side but wasn’t sure if there’s a better spot? On the driver side there’s a stud beside the power steering reservoir that I hooked the other chain too. Do you have any tips, tricks or help you can give? Thanks!

In the beginning of this video I showed where I mounted my harness bar. Id recommend placing your setup similar to how mine was. The two spots I used was on the front of the block hidden behind the belt and pulleys. Hope this helps and goodluck with the longtubes!

I member once I was workin on a 98 mustang gt and we took the headers off by barely gettin the wrench between the fender well and the valve covers and it was a bit*h. Last time we took the heads off with the headers and saved us 3 days lol.

Have you had any issues with heat? I followed this video and finished the job. A couple days after, I blew an ac line that touched the header. Have you had any similar issues with heat? I’m starting to worry about my starter being so close. Thank you for the great video. You saved me thousands!

I'd have to look at the starter spot again I didn't consider it back then the heat being an issue. As for the AC line I haven't had any lines touch the header however my Ac doesnt work rn anyway. I've heard people wrapping the header or starter.

Yeah it is required unless you can find a company that says otherwise.. which is a big reason I didn’t do long tubes cause I didn’t want to deal with that hassle

Those bbk header gaskets. Are they still good? No exhaust leaks. Thinking about getting oem so I won’t have to re do them.

Hope this still helps, the gaskets seem to be good still. I havent checked them for a leak specifically but they sound good and I do have a slight exhaust leak but it isn't related to the headers or gaskets. I'd honestly say order a set of oem by ford or whoever and compare the thickness and material and make a judgement.

Still same exhaust Off Road H pype , Pypes M80's Muffler and tailpipes stock just cleaned up. I don't have any specific clips of it with the stock exhaust hope this helps.

Awesome job Question? How long did you keep the engine on hoists? When removing header and K-memeber a couple of day? Need to drop oil pan but don't have tublar k - member yet?

Charles Dixon To support the engine I used a motor hoist bar from Harbor freight, I kept it entirely on the hoist untill I had reinstalled my headers and new Tubular K member. Once those two are bolted in and torqued you’re free to remove the engine hoist. I have a separate video linked to this going over how to remove it. Could take 1-3 days depending on determination and if the bolts place nice!

I would check the connections and make sure they’re tight, and if not you could improvise and use some exhaust repair weld or such to patch areas.

Did you crank the car up without putting the k member back on with the motor mounts connected ? Is the only thing holding the motor is the red bar on top of the motor

I did crank the car without the K member or motor mounts on. It was only supported by the red harness bar on top. I only let the car idle for a couple mins and slightly revved it to 1.5-2krpm max.

Have help up very well, good coloring no rust on them. Buy Copper Gaskets is what I've heard tho and seen alot of comments about it. I used the BBK Ones and havent noticed any leaks .. but it may happen? They might burn your steering shaft? or part of the rag joint, I am doing a replacement video over that soon lol.

I would say it’s the easiest approach, faster than pullin the engine or removing a bunch of stuff in the engine bay to “make room”

Yeah.. forgot to mention the torque spec. I just tightened it down hard as I could. Let the car run a couple times to let the bolts expand and then re tightened them, havent had any issues thus far!

Honestly I’m not sure.. my steering is lose now so I think it burnt the rag joints on it.. so a new steering shaft video will be coming shortly due to the headers. So make sure it doesn’t rub & check the clearance.

No the explorer might have different exhaust sizes. Probably the same process since it’s a 4.6 but order a specific explorer headers

If youre running shorts it doesnt but if you run Long tubes you will, I dont know where to re route it as that was also a factor why i got shorts vrs long.

It depends on what your doing with the car , want even more HP? Go with long tubes, still want slightly more HP but don’t want to take off long tube headers any transmission repairs or worry about clearance issues go with shorties. But if you’re not doing a Tubular K member or any up front weight shaving I’d say save your time and money and keep on the stock headers in my opinion.

I had started the car with just the top support brace, K member out. So yes but for extra safety I put a jack n blocks underneath the oil pan!

I’m going to look at my car today I’ll see what options best, but I’d say no. If it burns a slight patch then it’s fine but if it’s going to cause a fire or burn the line, I’d say try and reposition the line or try a stronger insulation.

Other than a blow torch and a while, if you can fit a big wrench & maybe a jack handle or something to give you extra leverage is my only guess. Maybe try soaking in PB over night for a couple nights too. Hope this might help you

If you’re running these shorts run it behind the tube, if you’re running Long tubes you have to remove and find a new place for the oil stick which if that’s your case I have no idea on what to do for that job my apologies.

do not use the paper gaskets for headers the BBK paper gasket already blew out of mine .. USE copper HEADER GASKETS they will never blow out .. its major work if it blows out

The second nut on top on the passenger side was one of the most ridiculous spots ever. Honestly I could not get anything on it. 13mm socket was too wide to fit in there and tighten it. I even lowered the engine and couldn’t get a wrench in there far enough to tighten it. I got it as much as I could and said fuck it lol. Why are these cars so poorly designed 😂

Done the shortys on my 2000 gt worst decision I ever made.total waste. does nothing for sound or power minimal,not worth the almost 2k I had to spend.if your gonna do it make sure you use seal for good gaskets.paper ones are garbage and header will come loose
